European Space Agency's Space History Conference

There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

L’objectif de ce séminaire est de réunir et faire dialoguer ces deux réflexions autour de travaux qui se situent à l’intersection de la sociologie économique, de la sociologie de l’action publique et des science studies. Le projet du séminaire est d’examiner la thématique de la régulation des risques sanitaires et environnementaux en centrant le regard sur le rôle joué par les entreprises, qu’il s’agisse d’actions de lobbying dans les espaces de normalisation, de modélisation des risques, de planification de la vigilance, ou encore de gestion des catastrophes.

L’évaluation de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales : les indicateurs quantitatifs et qualitatifs en question

RESSH 2015

L'initiative EVALHUM pour la mise en valeur des sciences humaines et sociales (SHS) organise son premier congrès international sur l'évaluation de la recherche dans les SHS, du 4 au 6 juin 2015, à Rennes. Ce congrès, organisé dans le cadre d'un projet labelisé et subventionné par le réseau des Maisons des sciences de l'homme, vise à se demander si l’évaluation peut être utile aux chercheurs dans les SHS, si elle peut réellement améliorer la qualité et la relevance de la recherche, ou bien si elle est condamnée à reste un outil de management, employé pour allouer les fonds et pour imposer des politiques scientifiques.

The conference will give interdisciplinary insights - history, sociology, economy, political science and science and technology studies (STS) will be mobilized –on the issue of transnational regulation through the analysis of the instruments and ideas, the organizations and institutions as well as the actors that are involved in the power struggles and controversies about the conduct of economic, financial and monetary policies.

Ideological competition in economic discipline

Economists and economic discourse in Germany and France, 1980-2007

This "colloque junior" attempts to explore economic expert discourses in their relation to politics and the public in comparative perspective. In view of the most recent economic and financial crisis we intend to bring together young and more advanced scholars in economic history, sociology, and economy to discuss the role of economic knowledge at the interface of sciences and the state. In particular, we are interested in the foundations of its particular scientific and political authority in both countries, and how best it might be described and analysed in a wider transnational context.

Engineer or engineers? Between expansion and fragmentation

New insights and comparative perspectives

Tantôt perçus comme membres d'une catégorie en plein éclatement, tantôt dénoncés comme cheville ouvrière d'une économie génératrice d'inégalités, les ingénieurs semblent aujourd'hui être une catégorie sociale aux contours flous, dont la perception par la société n'est pas évidente à saisir. Qu'est-ce qui relie encore les ingénieurs entre eux, devant l'autonomisation croissante des branches industrielles? Comment peut-on analyser à la fois l'unité du groupe, ses multiples segmentations et ses zones d'expansion ? Mieux cerner ce groupe doit permettre à la fois de saisir les contraintes qui encadrent ses actions, et d'éclairer, par des événements ou des débats souvent tombés dans l'oubli, les pratiques actuelles sous un nouveau jour. Le colloque « un ingénieur, des ingénieurs: expansion ou fragmentation? » souhaite répondre à un besoin de réactualisation des connaissances scientifiques sur le sujet, notamment en contribuant au renouvellement des approches et en permettant d'établir une discussion entre les différentes disciplines.
