Ce séminaire veut en premier lieu se montrer digne de ce mot sur lequel on passe d’ordinaire trop rapidement : il aimerait contribuer à ensemencer. Il tourne autour des deux mots grecs de logos et eikôn, le verbe et l’image pour employer une fois des traductions reçues et commodes. Cela dit on a depuis longtemps renoncé à traduire effectivement le premier, au-delà du prologue de Jean, et il sera plus prudent de faire de même pour le second, sans l’assimiler trop vite à ce latin image qu’il conviendra lui-même de démêler.

Schalten und walten. Towards Operative Ontologies
IKKM Biennial Conference 2019
The conference will conclude the IKKM six-year research program on ‘Operative Ontologies’. A term seeming contradictory at first, it assumes that everything that exists is not simply present or given but has been called into being through media and their operations in the most general sense: The ruling (das Walten) of nature as well as the ruling of the social reside under the command of technology, which as increasingly digitized technology is based on switching operations (das Schalten) — e.g. the achievements of bioengineering or the computational models of planet Earth. When embodied operations establish ontological orders and the difference between the ontic and the ontological thus re-enters the ontic, this demands a radical remodeling of ontology. The IKKM Biennial Conference 2019 therefore investigates the given with regard to the procedures through which it has been made possible, produced, set up, brought into the world and called into being — “switched on” — in the first place.

Le Guin a ouverts à nos imaginaires sont autant de voies possibles pour mieux habiter le XXIe siècle. Le colloque international « Héritages d'Ursula Le Guin » traitera de son œuvre de part une multiplicité de perspectives, dessinant ses ramifications littéraires, écologiques, philosophiques, socio-économiques et anthropologiques et évaluant son potentiel à re-imaginer le monde dans lequel nous vivons.

Sacred science: Learning from the tree
Symposium for the European Society for the History of Science's conference
“Unity and Disunity” has been chosen as the main theme for the European Society for the History of Science's conference that will take place in London on September 2018. Within this framework, Trames Arborescentes has decided to participate by proposing a commented panel that will gather four speakers around the subject “Sacred science: Learning from the tree”. This panel traces the arboreal motif through time, using it as a means to reflect on unity and disunity of interaction between science, art and the sacred.

S'adressant particulièrement aux jeunes chercheurs docteurs et doctorants, elle s'interrogera sur les outils, méthodes et pensées qui provenant des sciences, apportent des éléments d'analyse et de réflexion pertinentes en musicologie.

Field philosophy and other experiments
This colloquium will bring together leading and emerging scholars to discuss, share, and analyze what similarities and differences there are between their respective humanities research projects, as conducted in the field, and to experiment with what new field practices might emerge from the humanities. How are field practices in the environmental humanities methodologically different from those in cultural anthropology, geography, or sociology? How might field research in philosophy reshape traditionally text-based disciplinary boundaries?

Ce séminaire accueille chaque mois un·e chercheur·e en philosophie ou sciences humaines et sociales travaillant sur la santé afin qu'il·elle présente son travail et expose son regard sur l'objet santé. Organisé de manière à favoriser les échanges entre les différents acteurs, profesionnel·le·s, chercheur·e·s en santé ou tout simplement citoyens engagés, ce séminaire se veut un lieu ouvert de débat contribuant à la mise en place d’une réflexion commune sur la santé, sa nature, ses méthodes et ses enjeux. En mettant en outre l’accent sur les travaux menés en français dans ce domaine, il entend revendiquer l’importance de la francophonie dans ce champ de recherche en pleine expansion, et ainsi favoriser sa reconnaissance et son développement dans l’espace universitaire et public québécois.

Performer le vivant de son corps, la maladie ou le handicap l’engage sans notre volonté en éveillant des nouvelles potentialités qui demeuraient jusque là seulement possibles. Si le handicap peut « m’incapaciter complètement » (West, 1995, 15), elle est aussi le moyen de découvrir ce qui m’appartient « en propre, un vécu impossible à congédier ou à écarter d’un haussement d’épaule » (West, 1995, 18).

Aside from the biological processes to which it is subjected from birth to death, human existence is characterized by the permanent effort all individuals and groups make to influence and control these processes, in order to live together. Whether occurring during a rite of passage or whether part of the interactions of everyday life, this construction invites us to question the various manners forms are made – be them “Life Forms” or “Forms of Life” – by carefully looking at the diversity of processes through which norms and rules become established .

Journal of Phenomenological and Existential Theory and Culture
Eros plays a central role in Western thought. In the philosophical and spiritual traditions, it usually refers to physical love and desire. Eros is a recurring character in the pre-Socratic cosmogonies, and it is the main impulse of the philosophical quest for truth in Plato’s Phaedrus. This Special Topics issue of PhænEx wishes to give a new impulse to philosophical reflections on this fundamental and ambiguous phenomenon, following an interdisciplinary perspective at the intersection of phenomenology, post-structuralism, and social sciences (psychology, sociology, sexology, anthropology, linguistics, etc.).

Si l’art comme technè est une problématique largement explorée et débattue au cours de l’histoire des idées, la danse et son rapport à la technique n’ont été que relativement peu abordés dans ces cadres. The Dancing Plague, à la suite de ses précédents numéros « Danse vs compétition » et « Danse et divertissement », souhaite donner un espace à cette exploration, car elle fait écho à sa ligne éditoriale : donner à lire des écrits sur la danse stimulants et accessibles à tout lecteur – praticien, chercheur, spectateur, ou simple curieux.

Domestication / fabrication du vivant et science-fiction
Le workshop « Domestication / fabrication du vivant et science-fiction » (CNRS-PSL-Le Cube) se propose de réfléchir aux pouvoirs de l'homme sur le vivant et aux possibles que l'humanité a explorés ou pourrait explorer dans ce domaine : comment le possible biologique s'envisage selon les époques et les cultures ? Comment la conception que l’on en a libère ou enferme la créativité scientifique et notre façon de l’appréhender ? Si le workshop privilégie l’une des modalités de la science-fiction, à savoir celle liée à l’image et à l'audiovisuel, il ne s’y restreint pas pour autant. Il s’agira ainsi d’examiner la façon dont la manipulation du vivant est mise en scène dans les œuvres du genre : y a-t-il des thèmes privilégiés ? Dans quelle mesure est-il fidèlement rendu compte de la science ? Comment sont présentés les rapports entre science et société ? etc.

Fondements de l'éthique médiévale : Dieu, l'homme et la nature
La question des fondements de l’éthique médiévale se situe plus que toute autre à la croisée des chemins. Le terme de « fondements » peut en effet s’entendre dans une perspective historique, au sein de laquelle l’historien de la philosophie s’attache à suivre l’évolution des contenus de l’éthique en interaction avec divers facteurs sociaux, culturels et textuels, mais aussi comme une réflexion sur les conditions métaphysiques de l’existence d’une éthique. Destinée à donner la parole aux jeunes chercheurs en philosophie médiévale, doctorants ou post-doctorants, cette journée d'études sera centrée sur l'éthique au Moyen Âge et la question de ses fondements, tant épistémologiques que métaphysique, anthropologiques ou théologiques.

According to ancient biological theories, nutrition is, along with reproduction, one of the functions of the soul shared by men, animals and plants. At the same time, however, eating habits are among the starting points on which differences between humans, animals and plants are culturally built. This means that a transversal biological praxis can be used as an anthropological device, in order to to fix and identify specific boundaries and thresholds, either symbolic or theoretical, between both animality and vegetality on the one hand, and zoosphere and anthroposphere on the other hand.

In the Late Middle Ages and Early Modern Period
The brain has, throughout history, been considered an important achievement in the creation of man, although often secondary to the soul and the heart. Our knowledge about how the brain has been conceived in the past is, however, very fractional, especially for the late Medieval and early modern periods. This conference looks to re-situate the question of knowing the brain anew in a dialogue between medicine (anatomy, physiology and pathology) and natural philosophy (inter alia physics, biology and psychology).

This one day event will also mark the end of the first phase of the labodanse project (labodanse.org) with Myriam Gourfink. Pour cette troisième édition des rencontres Conscious Body, nous invitons chercheurs et danseurs / performeurs à explorer ensemble l’espace inter-subjectif qu’occupent le performeur et le spectateur. Cette journée marquera également la fin de la première phase du projet Labodanse (labodanse.org) avec Myriam Gourfink.

Quels effets du contexte et de la situation sur le jugement perceptif ?
Lors de sa 1re journée en octobre 2003, le Sensolier s’est intéressé à la validité écologique des contextes expérimentaux où nous mesurons le sensible. Dix ans plus tard, de nouveaux outils permettent d’accroître le « réalisme » des situations expérimentales, ce qui a fait l’objet de la 11e journée. Par ailleurs, les sciences cognitives ont éclairé l’aspect multisensoriel de la perception, les influences cognitives sur perception et décision, et l’intérêt de prendre en compte les variations interindividuelles. Ainsi, la validité écologique des situations expérimentales et la robustesse des mesures perceptives s’avèrent dépendre de tant de critères que le Sensolier propose d’y consacrer sa 12e journée.
