  Rencontres d'histoire et de philosophie des sciences

  The seminar Rencontres d’histoire et philosophie des sciences aims to promote a history and philosophy of science in which, in the words of Aldo Mieli (1935), “the unity of scientific thought” is “brought to the forefront, in relation to the multifaceted developments of particular sciences”. In order to do this, it seems imperative to us to involve all those who have an interest in the history and philosophy of science in its most diverse expressions in order to consolidate a community which, to exist, must regain its collegiality.

  Life and Mind. Aristotelian themes in contemporary philosophy

  Despite the interest in exploring Aristotelian themes in contemporary philosophy, there has been no coordinated attempt to survey or integrate the ways in which Aristotle’s approach to understanding life, mind, and the relation between them might inform and enrich our own. The objective of this workshop is to explore the way in which Aristotelian thought can brought to bear on contemporary research on the much-debated issue of the so-called mind-body problem and on its implications for the conceptualization of notions such as that of organism, animal and human perception and action, human moral agency, and the relation between mind and life.

  Parrhesia (freedom of speech) and conflict of interpretations in diagnosis

  Le diagnostic médical est un haut lieu de l'interprétation des signes, avec ses difficultés, ses doutes et ses problèmes. Il doit néanmoins être annoncé, et donc passer par une mise en forme discursive, avec ses enjeux rhétoriques de conviction, et doit faire avec la réaction des patients (ou de leurs proches), leur propre information et leur propre capacité à interpréter à la fois les signes et le discours médical. Nous proposons un colloque autour de ces questions, en évaluant leurs enjeux généraux conceptuels et sociétaux, et en nous focalisant autour de deux exemples répondant à des évolutions contemporaines : le diagnostic en psychiatrie et le diagnostic en génétique. Notre démarche se veut résolument pluridisciplinaire, associant des enseignants-chercheurs de divers horizons (philosophie, histoire, droit, médecine) et des professionnels de la santé et du soin.

  Jan Lukasiewicz

  e-LV workshop

  Jan Łukasiewicz (1878-1956) est un philosophe et logicien polonais connu pour sa critique du principe de contradiction d'Aristote. Il est l'inventeur des logiques plurivalentes, l'auteur des travaux sur la probabilité, l'interprète original de la logique des stoïciens et un critique du déterminisme dans la science. Depuis quinze ans, depuis le grand colloque Łukasiewicz tenu à Dublin en 1963, on n'a pas fait de point sur l'état actuel de la recherche sur Łukasiewicz et sur les travaux qu'il suscite. Pourtant, après Alfred Tarski, c'est de loin le philosophe polonais le plus cité dans la littérature scientifique international. Dans le contexte de la parution de plusieurs ouvrage le concernant, ainsi que de la mise en ligne de ses archives varsoviens sur le site e-LV, le colloque se donne pour but de montrer l'actualité de sa pensée mathématique, logique et philosophique.
