  The disciplinary constitution of the humanities and social sciences in 19th and 20th century Greece: National traditions and transnational movements

  25th Modern Greek Studies Conference of French-speaking universities

  The biennial Congress of French-speaking Modern Greek Studies scholars will take place from October 12^th to October 14^th, 2017 in Aix-en-Provence. Its aim is to bring together researchers from every domain of the humanities and social sciences. The issue at the heart of this 15^th Congress is the historical progress of certain areas of study towards the status of full-fledged disciplines of the humanities and social sciences in Greece from the moment of the establishment of the Greek state (1830) and within a context allowing the study of this phenomenon in both its regional and its international dimensions.

   

  The works of the Congress will be organized around the following themes:

  1. The emergence, institutionalization, reproduction and diffusion of disciplinary bodies of knowledge.

  2. The way each discipline positions itself with relation to other fields of knowledge and implements its theoretical foundations

  3. The processes of establishing legitimacy for the new disciplines and for the groups framing them

  4. Disciplinarization and the field of Modern Greek Studies

   

  Abstracts must be submitted before February 28^th, 2017, in either French or English.

  Translation History Matters

  1st East and West Conference on Translation Studies

  This conference aims to provide a biannual forum for East and West dialogue on Translation Studies.  This inaugural edition will be dedicated to “Translation History Matters” and welcomes contributions addressing issues related (though not circumscribed) to translation history, historiography and metahistoriography. Centred on translation understood as an intentional phenomenon of human and mostly intercultural communication, this conference aims to focus on the role played by translation in Eastern and Western cultural practices and encounters through history as well as on the role of history to understand both translation and translation studies.  By bringing together Eastern and Western views on a multitude of translation history matters, this conference aims to stress why, how and for which purposes translation history matters.

  L'Europe philosophique et scientifique du congrès de Bologne (1911) à la première guerre mondiale

  Le colloque se propose de réfléchir sur les échanges, emprunts et circulations entre les traditions philosophiques et scientifiques nationales les plus importantes avant la guerre de 1914-18, événement qui déchira l'Europe. Le point de départ chronologique sera le dernier Congrès international de philosophie tenu à Bologne en 1911 avec la participation de philosophes et savants tels que Bergson, Boutroux, Enriques, Peano, Durkheim, Croce, Poincaré, Langevin, Couturat, Driesch, Juvalta, Volterra, Vaihinger, Castelnuovo, Claparède, Ferrari, Dingler, Goblot, etc., et qui s’intéressait à l’anthropologie, à la psychologie et à la philosophie juridique et sociale. Les journées d’étude visent à mettre en évidence non seulement le rôle du Congrès de philosophie mais celui des nombreuses revues internationales - comme la Revue de métaphysique et de morale et Scientia - dans le déroulement du débat qui conduit à la formation de l’« âge du nationalisme ».

  Humboldt dans tous ses États

  Les transformations des espaces académiques centre-est-européens depuis 1989, entre dynamiques endogènes et transferts internationaux

  L’objectif de cette journée d’étude est de proposer un premier état des lieux des dynamiques des transformations de l’espace académique dans plusieurs pays de l’Europe du Centre-Est. L’attention portée aux héritages historiques et aux trajectoires de réformes entreprises au début des années 1990 permettra de prendre en compte l’hétérogénéité des points de départ et la manière dont ces héritages différenciés se combinent pour donner lieu à de nouvelles formes souvent hybrides. A rebours des lectures qui réduisent les transformations des champs académiques des pays européens à leur adaptation au processus de Bologne, postulant alors parfois leur « convergence », cette journée d’étude s’attachera à reconstituer les conditions de départ et la première phase des réformes sans négliger les évolutions plus récentes. Une attention particulière sera portée aux acteurs et aux dynamiques sociales des transformations. En dehors des contributions consacrées aux transformations générales des systèmes d’enseignement supérieur des pays étudiés, des études de cas se pencheront sur les transformations de certaines disciplines, les conditions du développement de nouvelles branches de sciences sociales et sur les bouleversements du paysage académique avec l’apparition de nouveaux établissements d’enseignement supérieur, de centres de recherche privés situés parfois aux marges de l’espace académique, de programmes d’échanges et de réseaux internationaux.

  Le programme quinquennal de la European Science Foundation : « Representations of the Past: The Writing of National Histories in Europe (NHIST) », organise une école d'été de doctorants et post-doctorants en juin 2008. Son objectif est d'identifier les nouvelles recherches dans le domaine de l'histoire de l'historiographie, qui se situent dans une perspective comparatiste ou qui s'intéressent à la question des transferts cultures.
