The "academic library" from the 19th century to the digital age (2020/2021)
Le séminaire étudie l'organisation du travail intellectuel et de l'activité scientifique à partir de l'histoire des publications du XIXe siècle à aujourd'hui. À l'issue d'une enquête sur les revues scientifiques, la session 2020-2021 reprendra la problématique de l'articulation de l'ensemble des publications produites dans un champ disciplinaire, à partir de deux exemples, l'archéologie et la physique, dans une perspective chronologique large. Il approfondira également les liens entre écrit, publication et outillage documentaire au milieu du XXe siècle, à partir d'études de cas (expositions et musées documentaires).

Le séminaire étudie l'organisation du travail intellectuel et de l’activité scientifique à partir de l'histoire des publications du XIXe siècle à aujourd'hui. En 2019-2020, il poursuivra l’enquête sur les revues françaises contemporaines (rédactions et éditeurs depuis 1945). Ouvert à tous, le séminaire mobilise l'expérience d'historiens du livre, d'historiens des sciences, d'anthropologues et de sociologues comme de spécialistes des sciences, des sciences de l'information et des humanités numériques.

A forum on current issues in European librarianship
The New Shape of Sharing: Networks, Expertise, Information continues conversations begun at the New Directions Symposium held in Frankfurt in 2017. This multi-day forum of panel presentations, a poster session, and interactive breakout sessions on key issues facing Western European collections and public services will encourage both structured and unstructured debate. We will advance our understanding of the challenges and initiate action in three areas: design new models for collaborative collection development and services; explore a growing range of content and format types and what they mean for libraries and researchers, and highlight the evolving role of libraries and librarians in the research process.

Is the digital revolution the consecration of the "humanities"?
Pour les études littéraires, le numérique constitue un nouveau continent que la critique doit à présent explorer voire conquérir. Incarnation postmoderne de la bibliothèque de Babel, le monde numérique mêle la diversité des langues humaines à la multiplicité des formats informatiques (langages de programmation, interopérabilité des logiciels, formats de fichiers, etc.). Ce bouleversement technologique provoque une évolution des instances traditionnelles associées à la littérarité. Une redéfinition des axiomes hérités du marché du livre occidental semble donc s’imposer. Dans le cadre de cette journée, nous aimerions ainsi proposer une analyse des principes aux fondements des dispositifs numériques susceptibles d’être employés dans le cadre de la recherche en lettres et sciences humaines.

2018 General Assembly of the "Virtual Humanist Libraries" research program
Nous avons le plaisir de vous convier à l’assemblée générale 2018 du programme de recherche « Bibliothèques Virtuelles Humanistes » (CESR, Tours). L’année 2018 aura particulièrement été marquée par les premières mises en ligne des ouvrages numérisés dans le cadre du projet partenarial « Bibliothèques humanistes ligériennes », tandis que la seconde campagne se tient en ce moment même. Plusieurs publications significatives ont également ponctué l’année. Cette assemblée générale sera ainsi l’occasion de vous présenter tant les avancées des projets en cours que les perspectives du programme de recherche BVH.

Revisiting library heritage - promotion, mediation and democratisation
Valorisation, médiation et démocratisation
L’une des richesses des bibliothèques réside dans leurs collections patrimoniales. Mais du fait même de leur caractère précieux, inédit voire unique, ces collections restent encore souvent méconnues du grand public, tout en suscitant un réel intérêt et une curiosité scientifique, culturelle et artistique. Rendre le patrimoine accessible et attrayant peut donc être un facteur possible de démocratisation des savoirs, mais aussi un ciment social autour d’un héritage, local et national, commun. Repenser ce patrimoine et sa réception induit en outre une dynamique de la connaissance elle-même, en ajoutant une plus-value scientifique à la valeur intrinsèque de collections qui jusque-là pouvaient sembler endormies de ce long sommeil séculaire des choses oubliées. Le patrimoine des bibliothèques devenant de belles éveillées, comment opérer dans les bibliothèques cette métamorphose qui donne, régénère, renouvelle, modernise et valorise ?

Text as object in the Middle Ages
The International Medieval Congress (IMC) is the largest medieval studies conference in the world. In line with the Special Thematic Strand in 2019 “Materialities” and the recent creation of the strand “Manuscript studies”, we organize sessions on “Text as object in the Middle Ages”. Texts, indeed, are at the same time an idea and a form. The latter is the result of a combination of inherited social uses and specific intentions by the various actors involved in transmitting the text as idea. This process begins with the authors, continues to the craftsmen (parchment and paper makers, copyists and chancery clerks, painters and illuminators, sculptors and weavers, booksellers…) and then on to possessors, readers, archives and libraries. All textual artefacts are concerned: manuscripts, charters, inscriptions, tapestries, seals, coins, etc.

Guillaume Budé association 18th congress
L’association Guillaume Budé se fixe pour objectifs de reprendre la tradition humaniste, depuis l’Antiquité gréco-romaine jusqu’au XXIesiècle, et de la vivifier en favorisant l’édition scientifique des grands textes et leur diffusion. Publiées sous son patronage, la Collection des Universités de France dans les domaines grec et latin, mais aussi les collections parallèles consacrées aux auteurs du Moyen-Âge et à la littérature humaniste, jouent un rôle essentiel pour la recherche menée dans ces secteurs en France. Le congrès qu'elle organise les 14 et 15 juin 2018 coïncide avec la célébration de son centième anniversaire et résume dans son intitulé toute son ambition : Éditer, traduire, annoter les textes au XXIes. Poursuivre la tradition humaniste.

This seminar’s focus is on the physicality of English printed books and manuscripts, whether they be strictly literary or not. We are especially interested in how particular editions and manuscripts shape the text’s interpretation and reading practices. Research topics include, but are not restricted to: finding rare editions and manuscripts, archival work, book and manuscript collections, printing practices and scribal work, palaeography, manuscripts as books, the coexistence of manuscripts and printed books, editing printed books and manuscripts, electronic versus printed editions, editing and digital humanities.

Paul Otlet and the protodigital humanities
Cette journée vise à faire le point sur l'œuvre de Paul Otlet afin de la resituer au sein du mouvement des humanités digitales. Paul Otlet en tant que théoricien de la documentation impulse des perspectives nouvelles en matière de systèmes d'information. Cela lui a valu une reconnaissance tardive et un intérêt renouvelé depuis que certains travaux américains en font de lui un précurseur du web voire de la société de l'information actuelle. La journée laisse place à plusieurs interventions autour de son œuvre, de l'intérêt de développer une histoire longue des humanités digitales et d'interroger les perspectives nouvelles qui pourraient être amorcées actuellement.

Journal transition from subscription model to open access

Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process. Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan the change.

DARIAH Summer school
This summer school for advanced humanities students, scholars, archivists and librarians is devoted to the reflection on the nature and the future of digital datasets in Humanities. The first day will introduce the problems and goals of the summer school, with an plenary lecture on the theoretical basis of digital documents and a historical overview of the information and communication problems in Early Modern France. Subsequent days will alternate presentations in the morning with practical workshops in the afternoons. Participants will learn how to process source documents in a digital environment using appropriate tools. A variety of sample source documents, selected from local libraries and archives collections and digitized in advance, will be available as supporting materials for the workshops.

Crowdsourcing as a means to share, enrich and publish heritage sources
The wide variety of these projects, their objects, and their contributing “crowds” is striking: “Transcribe Bentham”, “Zooniverse”, etc. not forgetting Wikipedia. Facing this fact, it seems interesting to allow researchers from various disciplinary origins to gather and question crowdsourcing together. A large number of questions are at stake, from a scientific point of view, but also sociologically and ethically: are there common practices to these projects that are so different in their objects, objectives, data, and contributors? We thus wish, during this international and interdisciplinary conference, to confront theories, reflexions and sharing out of experiences on this subject.
