Final Conference of the ValEUR research project
The conference addresses the role, effects and meanings of values at the crossroads of politics, culture, market and law. It documents the circulation and shaping of values between the different spheres of the European multi-level governance (local, national, supranational, transnational). It investigates the EU as a container of values politics as well as its interactions with external entities (Council of Europe, UN, rest of the world). A secondary purpose is to map the research using values as an exploratory framework of wider transformations of politics, policies and polities in Europe. Leaders of scientific projects having developed such agendas in recent years figure among the contributors.

The 9th International Conference ‘Europe Inside-Out: Europe and Europeanness Exposed to Plural Observers’ aims exactly to refresh a broader approach and understanding of Europe by enlarging the platform of regular conferences and workshops for a wider arena of participants and disciplinary backgrounds in order to put on stage a worldwide monadology for such concerns. The conference aims also to enable critical alternatives to the disciplinary orthodoxies by creating a framework for interaction and dissemination of diversity that has to become once more a European trademark.

Des témoignages et différentes approches de chercheurs permettront de s’interroger sur ce qui constitue une génération et sur l'existence – ou pas – d'une fracture intergénérationnelle ou intragénérationnelle.

Europe: another nation? (19th-20th centuries)
Ce colloque est le second organisé dans le cadre du programme « Les nations et l’Europe : deux mémoires en parallèle », développé dans le cadre du labex Les passés dans le présent. Il a pour objectif l’analyse des relations entre le sentiment national et l’idée européenne depuis la fin du XVIIIe siècle. L'enjeu est de comprendre comment se sont construites par étapes, une mémoire des nations et une mémoire de l’Europe, comment se sont différenciées, au sein même des nations et de l’Europe, des mémoires des régions et d’analyser l’évolution des rapports de force entre ces mémoires sur la scène politique.

Within Europe, a relatively indeterminate contours’ space, efforts to integrate and to bound the people and the political systems have yielded tangible results in political, economic, social and cultural matters. The objectives were consensual, such as to ensure lasting peace, economic growth and global security, as well as the freedom to act, to undertake and to think. Yet some may think that the integration has been made too hastily – especially to the east, creating new differentiations: East/West, adding to an older North/South. This analytical prism however is reducing because it largely ignores internal disparities in most national territories.

The 2016 edition of the journal Etudes écossaises will focus on Scottish culture, history and politics through the prism of migrations and borders. Papers in English or French will be welcomed from specialists in all fields of Scottish studies including arts and literature, civilization studies, history, political science, culture and the media.

Multiculturalism and Gender in France, UK, Canada and the U.S.
Les débats français, britanniques, canadiens et nord-américains sur les tensions entre universalisme et particularisme sont au centre des questions relatives à l’immigration et à la diversité ethno-raciale, religieuse et de genre. Ce colloque se propose tout d’abord d’explorer les manières dont chacun des quatre pays gère les tensions entre multiculturalisme et genre. Ensuite, face aux réponses institutionnelles et aux pressions du groupe, de quelle manière les personnes les plus vulnérables des groupes réagissent-elles ? Enfin, dans quelle mesure les mouvements antiracistes sont-ils les alliés des mouvements féministes ? -

L'orientalisme désorienté ? La Turquie contemporaine au miroir des approches postcoloniales
Les études turques se sont-elles entièrement dégagées du paradigme « orientaliste » ? Ce colloque a pour objet de réévaluer le regard porté sur la Turquie par les sciences sociales : les études sur la Turquie, considérées encore trop souvent comme relevant d’une « aire culturelle » irrémédiablement singulière, paraissent relativement hermétiques aux avancées théoriques, notamment vis-à-vis des interrogations induites depuis une trentaine d’années par les apports des différentes branches des postcolonial studies. Dans cette perspective, nous proposons deux axes centraux. -

Le colloque international « La République des Lettres dans la tourmente (1919-1939) » se propose d’examiner les efforts poursuivis par maints hommes de lettres européens dans l’entre-deux-guerres pour revivifier l’esprit de l’ancienne République des Lettres, et notamment son parti-pris de diplomatie et de paix, en vue de la construction d’une Europe unie.
