  Engendering Scandal: Children and Childhood in the Early Modern Period

  History, Literature, Memory

  This international two-day colloquium aims to analyse how and why the child, as an individual or in a group, could take part in the engendering process of scandal, and could even influence its meanings when more directly involved. It also aims to explore how narratives, even when confined to the judicial sphere (such as factums), could make sense of childhood, map its emotional realms, thus contributing to a better understanding of changing social and cultural norms and emotions relating to children.

  Port-Royal and the Republic: 1940-1629?

  Port-Royal fut-il républicain ? La question est souvent balayée d’emblée pour son anachronisme.  Pourtant, il a bien existé un Port-Royal républicain : celui que la troisième République a intégré dans son panthéon laïc, un Port-Royal hérité du roman national élaboré au cours du XIX^e siècle et, non seulement compatible avec l’idéal républicain, mais érigé en institution littéraire autour des figures de Pascal et de Racine. Est-il possible de n’y voir qu’une élaboration mémorielle désuète ?  Pour étudier le sujet lancinant du rapport de Port-Royal au mythe républicain, il paraît impératif de commencer par s’interroger sur le rapport de la République au mythe port-royaliste, d’en élucider les chimères aussi bien que, peut-être, les intuitions fécondes et les ambiguïtés dynamiques.
