Night Studies from Antiquity to the modern age
Pour l'heure, les Night Studies constituent un objet scientifique surtout abordé par des contemporanéistes spécialistes d'histoire urbaine. Nous souhaiterions initier une réflexion collective relevant des problématiques des Night Studies appliquées aux périodes antique à moderne, en menant une interrogation conceptuelle et notionnelle d'ordre philosophique, heuristique, herméneutique, épistémologique, esthétique et historiographique sur la spécificité de la nuit.

V International Conference on Mythcriticism
The V International Conference on Mythcriticism “Myth and Audiovisual Creation” will analyze the impact of myth in audiovisual creation from 1900 to the present day. The Conference will be organized in four universities during two weeks.The Conference will be divided into 4 venues according to different themes: "Germanic Myths" in the University of Alcalá, "Classical Myths" in the University Autónoma, "Biblical Myths" in the University Francisco de Vitoria and "Modern Myths" in the University Complutense. Researchers can send to one of their 4 venues their abstracts. They will have to analyze the relevance of film, TV series and video games in the creation and modification of old, medieval and modern myths to our contemporary world.

Une journée d’étude spécialisée, consacrée aux trames arborescentes dans la littérature, la théologie et la méditation de saint Bonaventure, aura lieu le 13 avril 2018.

Theme school in medieval epigraphy
Le Centre d’études supérieures de civilisation médiévale organise du lundi 28 mai au vendredi 1er juin 2018 une école thématique CNRS consacrée aux inscriptions médiévales. Elle entend fournir une formation théorique et pratique de haut niveau en épigraphie permettant le recensement, la lecture, l’exploitation et la conservation des inscriptions tracées sur pierre, bois ou métal au cours du Moyen Âge.

Litany in the Arts and Culture
The litany derives from ancient religious rites. Throughout the ages, however, it spread across many countries and became much more than a mere form of prayer. As has been demonstrated by our recent studies on the litanic forms in European poetry it is possible to reconstruct a cultural and literary map of European regions that traces the level of their participation in and contribution to the litanic tradition. The litanic verse is marked by religious semantics, but it also bears the mark of inter-European divisions, such as those experienced between and within various denominations, countries and nations, as well as the original folk cultures. Therefore, the litany may be of interest to scholars specializing in areas such the emergence of national identities and religious minorities, the crossover between art and religion as well as between music and poetry, the history of liturgy and spiritual life, the cultural exchanges between various nations.

Moyen Âge et première modernité », le Service d’histoire de l’art et archéologie du Moyen Âge annoncent le lancement de l’appel à contribution pour le colloque international – Iimagopapae. Le colloque se propose d’explorer les différents visages du pape, en encourageant l’adoption de perspectives innovantes et le développement d’études interculturelles.

La voix, composante omniprésente et pourtant si difficile à saisir de la réalité médiévale, a été retenue comme thématique pour la vingt-sixième édition du colloque d’Issoire qui se déroulera les 21 et 22 octobre 2016. Longtemps réservée aux musicologues, l’étude de la voix concerne en réalité tous les champs de la médiévistique. Si elle reste inaccessible dans son expérience, la voix des hommes et des femmes du Moyen Âge résonne encore dans les sources iconographiques, épigraphiques, littéraires et liturgiques, mais aussi dans la documentation diplomatique et les textes narratifs. Il s’agit d’aborder les empreintes de l’oralité dans les productions – textuelles et matérielles, quotidiennes et artistiques – de l’époque romane.

Narrativity: words, texts, images
Les séries d'images, qu'elles se veuillent indépendantes sur les parois des églises d'Occident, ou associées aux textes dans certains rouleaux peints de Chine et du Japon, racontent les histoires différemment. Mais que reste-t-il de l'histoire, quand on ôte ce qui est propre aux modes spécifiques du récit ? Nous examinerons au cours des deux journées de ce colloque différents types de « récits en images », en Europe et en Asie (Chine, Inde, Japon, Tibet), confrontés à leur source textuelle, et étudiés quand c'est possible dans leur contexte vivant.

New Perspectives on Censorship in Early Modern England
Literature, Politics and Religion
Placed under the aegis of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), this international conference will reassess the notion and the hermeneutics of censorship in early modern England. How was censorship organized? Did it prevent or promote creativity? Why and when did writers decide to enter "the safe territory of the oblique" (Annabel Patterson)? Participants are invited to provide a variety of interpretative answers and to develop a new understanding of how censorship refashioned the social, political and artistic life of Shakespeare's contemporaries.

Call for papers for the ninth issue of FORMA (Journal of Comparated Studies. Art, Literature and Thought). This call is opened and addressed to scholars, PhD students or any researcher who holds at least a BA degree. The deadline for submissions will be February 28, 2014. In each journal, the works published will be ushered by some articles written by well-known prestigious scholars, as well as an interview to an intellectually remarkable person and some reviews of books which might be of academic interest and were published the year before.
