Internationalism(s) and education during the Cold War

    Actors, rivalries and circulations

Not much research has been focused on educational internationalism, as it developed during the Cold War. Yet, this period provides an exceptional framework for understanding the evolution and metamorphosis of the processes of internationalization of knowledge and educational practices, whether in the school sphere or in the extra-curricular environment. Driven by a multitude of national, international, and imperial actors, these are articulated through the ideological confrontation between the blocs of the East and the West, but also through the challenges posed by European integration, decolonization, the emergence of "third worldism" and the attempts to regulate international relations (maintenance of peace and security, etc.). Therefore, the aim of this conference is to lay the foundations for a global history of educational internationalism, tracing its forms, its trajectories (North-South, East-West, South-South), as well as its impact on the political framework and the balance of power determined by the “global Cold War”.

    (De-)colonized Childhoods

    Revue d’histoire de l’enfance « irrégulière » | Numéro thématique 22 – 2020

Over the past several years, historiography that combines Childhood and Youth Studies with Colonial/Postcolonial Studies has demonstrated the importance of the place and role of children and youth in imperial constructions. In 2012, the Revue d’histoire de l’enfance “irrégulière” (RHEI) contributed to the development of this field with its issue on “Displaced Childhoods in Colonial Contexts” (no. 14, 2012). The journal will continue to explore new paths of research on this subject by dedicating issue 22 (2020) to child protection in colonial and post-colonial contexts.

    Education in Asia

Mixité, égalité des sexes et enjeux spatiaux

This dossier of the Cahiers d’Outre-Mer reviews the effectiveness of the coeducation and the gender equality in school systems in different Asian countries. A multidisciplinary perspective crossing the top-down and bottom-up approaches will allow us to spotlight the different actors of the considered spaces. A comparative approach which includes the diversity of the specific national trajectories and the transnational movement of the ideas and knowledge, will show how the co-education and gender equality are shaping dynamics and spatial issues in which individual people and groups and also institutions and politics are evolving.
