The Romanian Journal for Baltic and Nordic Studies calls for submission of articles in all fields which are intertwined with the aims of The Romanian Association for Baltic and Nordic Studies such as: history of Baltic and Nordic Europe; Baltic and Nordic Europe in International Relations; Baltic and Nordic Cultures; economics and societies of Baltic and Nordic Europe; relations between Black Sea Region and the Baltic and Nordic Europe.

The imagination of the North in the arts
L’objectif de cette journée d’étude est de fournir une lecture critique de l’imaginaire nordique dans les arts, en observant non seulement la généalogie, les tendances, les constantes traversant les diverses formes artistiques et ses évolutions à travers les époques, mais aussi la manière dont cet imaginaire se voit réapproprier par les Nordiques dans une optique de singularisation face à la menace que représente le processus d’uniformisation à l’œuvre dans la circulation culturelle mondialisée. Sera également, à l’inverse, abordé le mouvement de rejet émanant de certains artistes qui, en réaction à l’imaginaire nordique globalisé, visent à redéfinir cette fois-ci de l’intérieur une identité nordique débarrassée de toute tendance boréaliste.

Circulation of Knowledge in the Baltic Sea Region From the Middle Age to the early 20th century
After a first edition around the theme "Education, pedagogy and training" held on March 5, 2020, we are pleased to announce that a second edition of the study day, "Circulation of knowledge around the Baltic Sea Region from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century" will be held. It will be held in Toulouse on Thursday 4 March 2021 and will be based on the theme : "Culture of power, power of culture. "This day is part of a desire to meet around a geographical area, the Baltic Sea Region (Northern Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Sweden) in order to exchange between researchers and to highlight their work. It is aimed at both young Masters and more experienced researchers.

The 11th annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies
Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union? 3rd congress of the Association pour les études nordiques
Le IIIe congrès de l’Association pour les études nordiques sera organisé à Strasbourg les 12 et 14 juin 2019 par le Département d’études scandinaves de l’université de Strasbourg et son Cercle nordique en partenariat avec la Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire de Strasbourg avec les unités de recherches EA1341 Études germaniques et nord-européennes, EA1339 LiLPa et l’UMR DynamnE. Cet événement aura la vocation de fédérer les chercheurs et les doctorants issus de disciplines, d’institutions et de pays divers afin de constituer un point de convergence respectant et renforçant la richesse des approches utilisées dans le domaine des études nordiques.

Dissent Versus Conformism in the Nordic, Baltic and Black Sea Areas
The tenth annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies in Romania
In the meanwhile, conformism seems to have pervaded larger categories of public in East-Central Europe and beyond and new “illiberal democracies” evolved. A composite of authoritarian leader and godfather have taken the reins of power in the area. Populist parties and movements are on the rise. Resurgent nationalisms are again offered as a substitute to solutions. The refugee crisis lingers on and no common decisions have been adopted within the EU to solve it on the basis of the European values. The EU institutions are in need of reform and decisions on the course of the organization and its future enlargement process are still pending. The conference aims at analyzing two often interrelated phenomena: dissent and conformism.

Northernness: concepts, representations, images
Ce colloque s’intéressera aux représentations du Nord dans la littérature et les arts européens. Il s’agira de comparer ces représentations chez les artistes et auteurs nordiques, mais aussi les autres Européens, et ainsi tenter de mieux cerner les différents concepts et modèles de nordicité. On s’interrogera sur les caractéristiques du concept pluriel de nordicité et sur la possibilité d’en retracer la généalogie, on s’intéressera aussi bien aux différents modèles de nordicité qui émergent au XIXe siècle qu’à leur évolution et leur transformation au cours des XXe et XXIe siècles.

The North in the work of Xavier Marmier
Nombre de chercheurs issus de disciplines différentes se réfèrent encore aujourd’hui aux travaux de Xavier Marmier, pionnier des études germaniques et nordiques. Il représente donc un objet d’étude idéal dans le cadre d’un colloque interdisciplinaire réunissant des travaux de chercheurs de tous bords : histoire, géographie, littérature, philologie, culture, etc. Ce sera l’occasion d’étudier l’image que Marmier donne du Nord et de la confronter aux travaux de chercheurs contemporains. Les organisateurs font appel à des communications portant sur les territoires du Nord parcourus par Marmier, parmi lesquels l’Allemagne, les Pays-Bas, le Danemark, la Suède, la Norvège, l’Islande, et le Groenland.

The Colloquium is devoted to the history of fish, aquatic monsters and mammals in the northern seas (the English Channel, North Sea, Baltic Sea, Norwegian Sea, the North Atlantic), from antiquity to 1600. The colloquium is based on three themes: knowledge and the transmission of knowledge (medical knowledge, zoological knowledge, descriptions, identifications); savoir-faire and exploitation (aquatic farming, fishing, cooking, medicine); explorations – real and imaginary.

Les participants à cet atelier interdisciplinaire seront les doctorants, docteurs et chercheurs confirmés de l’université de Strasbourg ; ils discuteront ensemble leurs projets qui s’inscrivent dans l’espace entre Allemagne et Russie (ces deux pays étant exclus), des Pays baltes aux Balkans. Les directeurs de la BNU et des centres de recherche de Bâle et Fribourg en Brisgau (réseau Eucor) présenteront les ressources de leurs établissements. La manifestation s’achèvera par une table ronde où des diplomates et des fonctionnaires européens débattront de l’actualité dans cette région. Cette Journée, ouverte au public, a pour but de renforcer la recherche sur l’Europe médiane dans le Rhin supérieur.

Germanic, Dutch-speaking and Nordic regions
Pour sa cinquième année d’existence, le séminaire poursuivra la réflexion engagée sur la notion d’identité (2009-2010 : identité et altérité ; 2010-2011 : identité(s) en crise ; 2011-2012 : espaces et identités en mouvement ; 2012-2013 : identité(s) entre singulier et collectif). Cette année, le séminaire se fixe pour objectif d'enrichir cette approche thématique par un questionnement méthodologique sur la notion de source.

Protestantism in Northern Europe - XXth and XXIth centuries
Les deux journées d’étude (25 et 26 mai 2012) autour du thème Protestantisme(s) en Europe du Nord aux XXe et XXIe siècles s'intéressent à l'impact culturel de la tradition protestante dans l'espace nordique et aux Pays-Bas dans une perspective contemporaine. Les interventions privilégieront une approche historique et sociologique la première journée, littéraires, philosophiques et culturelles la seconde. Les rencontres auront lieu au MISHA à Strasbourg. -

Dans bien des domaines, mais surtout celui de l’éducation, il est fait mention d’un « modèle nordique ». Cette idée, largement diffusée dans les médias, correspond-elle à une réalité dans l’enseignement des langues, tant au niveau scolaire qu’universitaire ? L’une des ambitions de cette conférence est de comparer les situations et les pratiques dans l’enseignement du français langue étrangère au Danemark, en Finlande, en Islande, en Norvège et en Suède. L’évolution de l’enseignement du français, et l’intérêt – relativement décroissant dans certains contextes – porté à cette langue seront naturellement d’actualité, mais également, de manière plus large, les recherches en didactique du français langue étrangère ou maternelle menées dans ou sur les pays nordiques. -

Transfers, Appropriations and Functions of Avant-Garde in Central and Northern Europe, 1909-1989
Le colloque se concentrera sur la question des fonctions des avant-gardes ainsi que des transferts et appropriations des influences et intertextes dans l’Europe intermédiaire et du Nord dans la période qui s’étend de 1909 à la fin de la guerre froide. Les langues officielles du colloque seront le français et l’anglais. Les domaines disciplinaires invités à apporter leur contribution sont : l’histoire de l’art, lettres modernes et littérature comparée, histoire, histoire des idées, sémiotique, analyse des discours et traductologie. -
