Crossing Critical Boundaries
Race in the Marketplace (RIM) is an international multidisciplinary research network dedicated to innovatively advancing knowledge and critically understanding the role of race and how it intersects with class, gender, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and disability in global marketplaces. Building on our successful inaugural RIM Research Forum held in Washington D.C in spring 2017, we have decided to broaden the movement across the Atlantic and hold the second biannual RIM Research Forum in Paris (France) from June 25 to June 27, 2019. The broad objective of this second Forum is to continue the dialogue across domains, disciplines and geographical boundaries to contribute to an integrated understanding of race in markets.

Ce colloque, organisé par l'Institut des sciences de la communication, porte sur l'approvisionnement alimentaire des villes. Comment se met en place cette révolution de l’approvisionnement, quelles sont ses exigences environnementales, juridiques et financières portées par les acteurs politiques (villes, métropoles), ses visées esthétiques pour l’acceptabilité de tels changements par les populations. Quelles réflexions dans les sciences sur l’épidémiologie de ces nouveaux produits arrivés des fermes urbaines. Et, in fine, quelles réflexions suscitent-elles chez les cuisiniers s’ils sont prêts à accepter des aliments nouveaux ?

Call for papers - Ethnology, anthropology
Questioning current stakes of pharmaceuticals in Africa
We wish to discuss the multiple stakes surrounding pharmaceuticals in Africa today, with particular consideration of their markets, the political and economic actors which they mobilize, related instruments of regulation, control and competition, modes of health care in which they are placed, and finally their modes of consumption by individuals, without losing sight of the adaptation of "traditional medicines" to the evolution of economic models. Regulation, with its broad sense of norms actually at play, legislative, biomedical, technical and commercial, seems to transverse these various questions and will thus be widely considered. We anticipate proposals based on current research for presentation on the seven themes outlined below. Submissions can come from the various social sciences (anthropology, sociology, law, history, economy, geography, political sciences), as well as from biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences. Although Africa is central to this discourse, presentations of studies from other continents will be considered with the aim of drawing links with Africa and enriching the discourse with current situations in African countries.

A socially and geographically situated bricolage
Treating oneself is a controversial practice: scorned in the name of the health risks it runs, self-treatment may also be praised in the name of the independence it expresses. The messages of public health authorities are at the heart of the controversy, emphasizing risk one moment and their potential for patient responsibility the next. Such contradictory injunctions also affect the practices of care providers. The conference has chosen to allow comparisons and confrontations between these various disciplinary approaches as well as distinct research field sites (North/South, North/North, South/South). These practices and their determinants have to be more finely mapped and analyzed to put these analyses – by definition always partial, and theoretically, historically, and geographically situated – in perspective.

North/South conference of automedication and its determination
« Les rencontres Nord / Sud de l'automédication et de ses déterminants » sont organisées à l'initiative des projets de recherche « Globalmed » de l’European Research Council (ERC) et « Automed » de l'Agence nationale de la recherche (ANR), implantés respectivement au Bénin et en France. Nous diffusons deux appels à participation : un appel à communication pour le colloque se déroulant les 4 et 5 mars 2015 ; et un appel à collaboration pour un séminaire de chercheurs le 6 mars 2015. Deux grandes dimensions structureront le colloque : L’automédication et ses usages (volet consommation) ; et la distribution, sa régulation et ses effets sur l’automédication (volet distribution).

Depuis les années 1970, sous l’impulsion d’un double mouvement comprenant les revendications des associations de défense des droits humains et les avancées législatives constatées à des degrés divers sur la planète, une transformation du regard porté sur les personnes en situation de handicap est visible. De questions mineures ou reléguées aux calendes grecques, les thématiques liées aux handicaps deviennent centrales dans les agendas socio-politiques et constituent des analyseurs de l’état de démocratisation des sociétés contemporaines (Henry-Jacques Stiker). Ainsi, dans le cadre de la participation sociale, l’accès aux loisirs et au tourisme pour les personnes en situation de handicap est un enjeu majeur, notamment consacré en droit à l’échelle internationale en 2006 par la Convention des Nations Unies sur le Handicap.

« Si le mot "inégalité" ne vous fait pas tressaillir, peut-être serez-vous plus sensibles au mot "injustice" ». Ainsi commençait en mars 2006 un appel lancé par la Fondation Abbé Pierre pour le logement des défavorisés dans cinq grands quotidiens français. Au-delà de la situation particulière du logement social dans ce pays, cette exhorte traduit un changement significatif : le constat d'un glissement des inégalités sociales vers les injustices sociales sur l'agenda socio-politique. Si demeure la question de fond du moment à partir duquel une inégalité devient une injustice, force est en effet de constater une tendance lourde, celle de l'expression croissante des problèmes sociaux sous l'angle de l'injustice. Comment comprendre pourtant pourquoi, aujourd'hui, l'expérience sociale se donne à voir comme une suite d'épreuves individuelles ?
