  Spatializing environmental rumors

  « Géocarrefour » Review

  This call for papers for the journal Géocarrefour aims to question rumors with a spatialized look. The sociologists’ works have already taken a keen interest in rumors, understanding this phenomenon from a spatial point of view implies thinking about what a territory does to rumors and what rumors do to territories. Rumors are at first sight unstable, elusive in their (spatial) materiality. However, their intangible dimension seems to be able to incarnate itself in the territories, to influence their representations, and even to modify the practices of the actors of the territory. The aim of the texts will be to clarify and interpret the territorial anchors of rumors: where do they come from, a very precise place or a set of places? What event caused it? Where did it happen? Is its discourse reported directly or indirectly? What representations of the territory do such rumors convey? The contributions will focus on rumors about environmental issues, which is not yet studied.

  Urban China and the challenges of sustainability

  Medium conference

  This is the second international event organised in the context of the Medium project. While research conducted in the context of the project focus primarily on the medium-sized cities Hangzhou, Zhuhai and Datong, the conference will consider urban China in its diversity, with a great variety of case studies including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Tianjin, the region of the Taihu lake etc. It will address the issue of sustainability from a broad perspective, tackling ageing housing, social inclusion, urban governance, environmental sustainability, participatory processes in urban planning, with a multi-disciplinary approach ranging from geography, political science, economy, sociology, computer science, environmental science, etc.

  The mediation of technologies for a new communication and representation of territory

  Session S25 of the 32nd Italian Geographers Congress

  The session, which is part of the 32^nd Congress of Italian Geographers, will accept both theoretical and methodological proposals exploring the forms through wich ICTs, particularly the Web, have been changing the dynamics of territory representation in the last decades. Among other things, the proposal shoud focus on territorial communication forms for both political and administrative aims (the communication by and for citizens/investors) and tourist and cultural purposes (the communication by and for tourists/visitors).

  Vulnerability of Mediterranean coastal area to actual environmental changes

  Du 20 au 24 octobre prochain se tiendra, sur l'archipel de Kerkennah (Tunisie) le symposium « Vulnérabilité des littoraux méditerranéens face aux changements environnementaux contemporain » qui portera sur trois grand thèmes d'étude : le changement climatique en Méditerranée: conséquences, adaptation et vulnérabilité ; le constat de l’évolution climatique en cours et le changement simulé par les modèles du climat ; le risque climatique en milieu urbain et la résilience des aires urbanisées en milieu méditerranéen.

  Call for applications for Fernand Braudel IFER grants – Labex Dynamite

  La Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme offre des bourses de recherche postdoctorale en sciences humaines et sociales d’une durée de 9 mois dans le cadre de son programme « Fernand Braudel-IFER » (International Fellowships for Experienced Researchers), soutenu par l’Union européenne (Programme Action Marie Curie – COFUND – 7ème PCRD). Le LabEx DynamiTe s’associe à la FMSH en proposant d’accueillir un boursier dans le cadre du volet « incoming ». Les projets des candidats doivent correspondre aux axes de recherche du LabEx. Les candidats postulent auprès de la FMSH et demandent un laboratoire d’accueil scientifique de leur choix en France. Pour candidater, ils doivent obtenir une lettre du directeur du laboratoire choisi démontrant qu’ils seront accueillis dans cette institution pendant leur séjour en France.

  Increasing the Resilience of Cities to Climate Change

  From spatial diagnostic to adaptation measurements

  Ce colloque pluridisciplinaire a pour objectif de faire l’état des lieux des recherches en cours sur la question de la vulnérabilité et de la résilience au changement climatique des villes dans le monde. Il s’adresse aux chercheurs spécialisés dans la caractérisation, la modélisation et la prévisibilité du climat urbain mais aussi à ceux contribuant, par leurs travaux, à étudier la perception du changement climatique chez les acteurs du système urbain et la réponse qu’apportent ces derniers face à cet enjeu socio-environnemental. Il s’adresse également aux décideurs et acteurs de la ville, préoccupés par la sensibilité du territoire urbain face au changement climatique. Les propositions de communication appréhendant le thème général du colloque par une « entrée géographique » (spatialisation, visualisation 3D et cartographie ; approches multiscalaires ; démarche comparative et systémique ; modélisation ; expérimentations in situ ; méthodes d’analyse de données ; etc.) seront vivement appréciées.
