Migrations: traces, inscriptions and textualities

Le colloque explorera, au croisement des approches, la polysémie et le polymorphisme que peut et a pu recouvrir le concept de « migration-s » du XIX^e siècle. Les contributeurs analysent des cas de parcours migratoires, de migrations retour, des « textualités » des migrations : notes éparses, correspondances familiales, carnets de voyage, presse binationale, dessins, photos, reportages… qui habillent, transfigurent ou déshumanisent les migrations, autant d’inscriptions et de représentations susceptibles de guider les trajectoires des candidats à l’émigration du XXI^e siècle.

Franco-Belgian festival of young researchers, Lille and Brussels

Le festival interuniversitaire et transfrontalier Jeunes Chercheurs dans la Cité est un événement culturel franco-belge. Il se déroule en deux temps, un volet lillois et un volet bruxellois organisés par deux comités organisateurs différents : un groupe de doctorants français, et un groupe de doctorants belges. Il met à l’honneur le travail de recherche de jeunes chercheurs en Sciences Humaines et Sociales et propose de présenter des conférences de vulgarisation destinées au grand public.

The Emancipation of Bound Laborers in the Americas before the Abolition of Slavery

What were the modalities of the emancipation of unfree workers? Which factors motivated the adoption of legislation regulating emancipations? Is it possible to establish a typology of the emancipators and of the emancipated servants and slaves? To what extent did slaves and indentured servants take part in their own liberation? Did the introduction of slavery provide any negotiating power to white servants, for instance by reducing their length of service? Did the practice of emancipation evolve in reaction to the advent of abolitionism, especially after the movement gained momentum and radicalized itself?

Thinking Migration to Rethink the World

The aim of this conference, celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of MIGRINTER, is to examine the contribution of migration studies to human and social sciences at large. It will feature panels bringing forward some of the scientific domains that have addressed issues pertaining to international migration: the production of cities; the relation of politics to migration and of migrants to politics; history beneath and beyond nations; literature in/of exile.
