Legal data mining, machine learning and visualization
The aim of the conference is to structure a conversation on both the fundamental and practical issues on legal data mining and machine learning between scientists and professionals from artificial Intelligence, data science, law, and logic. The Legal Data Mining, Machine Learning and Visualization conference will explore the specific technical challenges from data mining and machine learning technique addressing together practical and legal theoretical issues. It is an opportunity for computer scientists to showcase and explore in conversation with lawyers further developments in AI and data-mining applied to the legal domains. Legal academics specializing in the interface of law and AI are given the opportunity to articulate the challenges of automated functions in law including in natural language processing applied to law, information extraction from legal databases and texts and data mining applied for legal analytics.

(Re)Making and regulating life and livelihoods across borders: transnational bioeconomy, law, and governance
Biotechnological industry, researchers, and governments have entered a new constellation, regime, and accelerated phase, called the Bioeconomy. This agenda - which exists in the form of policy, funding programs, white papers, etc. - reimagines how we live, how we live together with other kinds of life, and, directly, these other kinds of life at the molar and molecular level. In other words: All kinds of livelihoods in their social, economic, and ethical relations are put in motion. This agenda is, geopolitically, not restricted to Global North nor contained by any national or international jurisdiction and governance.

La transformation majeure du droit contemporain – sa globalisation ou transnationalisation - a fait naitre un débat mondial. Cependant, aucune réponse ne s’est imposée à la question de la définition du droit global / transnational. Est t’il possible de renouveler ce questionnement en examinant concrètement les pratiques actuelles de recherche sur la globalisation / transnationalisation du droit et en donnant ainsi une définition « réflexive » du droit global / transnational ? Autrement dit, est-il possible de décrire simplement les parcours de chercheurs sur la globalisation du droit pour tenter de discerner des similitudes quant à leurs objets, catégories, etc. ?

Journal transition from subscription model to open access

Serial crisis, sky-rocketing subscription prices as well as more and more widespread and powerful OA mandates have pushed many publishers to rethink the finance of publishing the journals. Considering a switch calls out numerous challenges but it is a path more and more travelled – and importantly so an economically – sustainable and one with long-term benefits – not only for readers, but also for authors and the journal owners, too. In 2014 De Gruyter converted 14 journals to OA – this webinar looks at overarching strategies for journal transition from subs to OA – including current OA publishing landscape and single factors (like managing submissions, citations and funding) that play a role during the process. Is it worth it? Who will foot the bill? What to expect? And how to bring the EAB on board? The introductory one-hour webinar is built around three sections to allow participants to work out the flipping strategy for their publication and to timely and reasonably plan the change.

Il vise à interroger, du point de vue des sciences humaines, la production de connaissances profanes et scientifiques et leur rencontre, ainsi que les modes de gestion face au verrouillage du régime.

Le recours à des disciplines non juridiques soulève, tant du côté des praticiens que des chercheurs en droit, des enjeux importants. Il s'agira d’interroger les usages de l’interdisciplinarité chez ces divers acteurs : qu’en attend-on ? En quoi est-elle nécessaire aujourd’hui plus qu’hier ? Est-elle une fin en soi ou un moyen pour légitimer une décision ou la production d’une norme ? Dans le même sens, la réticence qui se manifeste souvent face à cette pratique tient-elle à la défense d’une spécificité ou d’une autonomie juridique qui serait mise en cause par le recours à d’autres disciplines ? Tient-elle à des difficultés conceptuelles ou épistémologiques qui rendent une telle entreprise difficilement envisageable ?
