It is an opportunity for computer scientists to showcase and explore in conversation with lawyers further developments in AI and data-mining applied to the legal domains. Legal academics specializing in the interface of law and AI are given the opportunity to articulate the challenges of automated functions in law including in natural language processing applied to law, information extraction from legal databases and texts and data mining applied for legal analytics.

  A government of prediction?

  The politics of modeling and computing for policy

  The aims is to putting in discussion the modes and effects of the use of computational tools in government and public policies. Computation, be it based on statistical modeling or newest techniques of predictive analytics, holds the promise to be able to anticipate and act infallibly on futures and uncertain situations more generally. That the future is an object of governmental knowledge and action is nothing new though. So, what is the characteristic of today’s relationship with futures in policy making and action? To what extent do the means of computation – from statistical models to learning algorithms employed in predictive analytics — change this relationship, and the collective capacity and legitimacy to engage with future, uncertain situations? Do technologies of prediction change policies and their politics and, if so, how?

  The call for new forms of participation has become common in the public sphere, promising renewed forms of public engagement, more efficient industrial processes, and more democratic decision-making processes. Technological innovation is a particular case when considering current discourses of participation. It is both problematised as needing more developed or open forms of participation, and proposed as a mean for experimenting with original participatory formats, for example, in: crowdfunding, citizen science, amateur reviewing/rating, online communities for public debates, consumer participation in (participatory) product design.

  Indexation 2.0 and 3.0 of academic data

  L'enjeu capital de la documentation est de créer les conditions d’une mise en relation pertinente, efficace et rapide, des informations et des besoins d’information. L’indexation joue en cela la fonction centrale de qualification des informations et documents dont dépend essentiellement cette mise en relation. Cela étant, certaines modalités d’indexation changent drastiquement l’écologie de la documentation en proposant d’envisager la structure globale des documents scientifiques non plus en fonction de leurs caractéristiques intrinsèques mais en fonction de leur valeur relative, basée sur la relation réciproque des documents par le biais de leur bibliographie. Mais déjà de nouvelles configurations se déploient sur descanaux rendant les communications informelles plus techniques et manifestes, s’opérant entemps réel et sans intermédiaires, plutôt que via des articles dont la confection et l’usagesemblent relever d’autres nécessités.
