Sciences humaines et sociales et les enjeux de l’eau
Savoirs et expertises dans les débats sur les questions hydrauliques, les projets et leur mise en œuvre
Un premier séminaire du réseau « Sciences humaines et sociales pour les questions de l’eau » (octobre 2018) avait abordé les questions de gouvernance de l’eau en situation de tension sur la ressource, de gestion humaine du risque inondation, et d’intégration des sciences sociales dans les études de projets hydrauliques. Le séminaire de novembre 2019 est revenu de manière plus ouverte sur les liens entre tensions sur l’eau et gouvernance. Ce nouveau séminaire, concerne la place des savoirs, des expertises et des experts dans les projets hydrauliques. Un enjeu important pour les projets hydrauliques est la capacité de construire des co-décisions participatives, à l’échelle territoriale adaptée. L’actualité montre par ailleurs à quel point la place des experts dans la prise de décision publique mérite d’être discutée.

The humanities and social sciences in Latin America, 1950-2020
L’histoire des sciences humaines et sociales en Amérique latine a donné lieu, notamment à partir des années 1990, à une littérature abondante, très majoritairement en langue espagnole. Cette historiographie constitue le contexte des acquis et des lacunes au regard duquel des questionnaires et des objets d’enquête peuvent être redéfinis, prolongés ou revisités. C’est l’objectif de ce dossier de la Revue d’histoire des sciences humaines qui souhaite contribuer à explorer, dans une démarche résolument historienne, des voies d’un continent intellectuel dont il ne s’agit pas de poser le périmètre a priori.

Women in the production and diffusion of historical knowledge in French Canada, 19th and 20th centuries
Ce projet de journée d’étude veut mettre en lumière les diverses formes de participation et de contribution des femmes du Canada français au dynamisme d’un champ historique en constante métamorphose. Par là, il entend aussi offrir de nouvelles pistes d’analyse pour déjouer la construction genrée du champ de la pratique historienne et mieux comprendre l’effacement mémoriel de certaines de ses ouvrières. Aux côtés de figures mieux établies, qui retiendront aussi l’attention, se trouvent plusieurs praticiennes n’ayant pas investi à hauteur suffisante les formes canoniques d’expression disciplinaire - la monographie d’histoire, l’article scientifique ou la synthèse historique - mais dont la contribution mérite d’être mieux reconnue et étudiée.

Charles Percy Snow (1905-1980), chimiste et romancier britannique, a consacré sa célèbre conférence The Two Cultures and the Scientific Revolution (Deux cultures et la révolution scientifique, 1959) à l’incompréhension grandissante entre la culture littéraire et la culture scientifique tout en montrant les dangers de cette scission pour le progrès de la civilisation.

The augmented man in Europe: dreams and nightmares between the wars
Dans l'entre-deux-guerres, nombre de penseurs ont porté le vœu d’élever l’homme au-delà de sa condition « naturelle » par différentes techniques, alimentant des débats un peu partout en Europe. Certains mouvements ont déjà été bien balisés et étudiés (l’« homme nouveau » des totalitarismes, celui de la pensée eugénique ou encore du courant technocratique). Cette typologie est-elle suffisante pour décrire la totalité des interrogations sur un « homme augmenté » qui traverse cet entre-deux-guerres ? Ou bien peut-on identifier un autre courant, à la croisée des précédents ou largement autonomes ? L’hypothèse que ces journées d’études souhaitent éprouver par l’analyse historique et philosophique est celle d’un tel courant de pensée à l’échelle de l’Europe. Les communications aborderont ainsi les rives russes, anglaises, espagnoles, allemandes, belges et françaises.

The televisual spaces of medicine and health in the 20th Century
Medical television programmes, across their history, have had specific relationships to places and spaces. On the one level, they have represented medical and health places: consulting rooms, hospitals, the home, community spaces, public health infrastructures and the rest. As television-producers have represented these places, there has been an interaction with the developing capabilities of television technologies and grammars. Moreover, producers have borrowed their imaginaries of medical and health places from other media (film, photographs, museum displays etc.) and integrated, adjusted and reformulated them into their work.

Enhancing human in Europe: dream and nightmare of the interwar period
Number of historians and philosophers consider in general that transhumanism and its aim at enhancing the human through applied science and technology have their roots in the inter-war period: Julian Huxley, Jean Coutrot, John B.S. Haldane or John D. Bernal are indeed massively considered as the precursors of such ideas. But are they the sole references to mention when considering the inter-war origins of transhumanism, or are they just the tip of the iceberg of a broader current of thought emerging at that time? Such question immediately raises another one, which requires clarification : can current transhumanism(s) really be linked to the ideas emerging in the inter-war period ? The aim of the workshop will be first to check whether and how the idea of an enhanced human through technology intervention may have circulated in Europe during that time. Secondly, space will be given to look for pertinent criteria for the identification of a « transhumanism » of the inter-war period, by evaluating the nature of the indices which may be studied: mobilizing ideas, currents of thoughts, schools of thoughts, sociotechnical imaginaries, etc. Within these perspectives, the workshop will make possible comparisons between the different European contexts (England, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, etc.), and the several papers will help us to better understand the circulation of ideas, networks and human exchanges which contributed to forge the cradle of transhumanist ideas. Communications will be in French or in English.

Dans le contexte colonial français des siècles XIXe et XXe, que se passe-t-il lorsque l’altérité constitutive de l’« indigène » se double d’une différence supplémentaire qui touche à la sphère de la pathologie mentale ? Quelles sont les spécificités du traitement juridico-administratif de la folie ? Que les catégories et les discours de matrice coloniale nous apprennent-ils sur les politiques contemporaines de santé mentale ? Que reste-t-il de l’imaginaire colonial dans les pratiques et dans les discours institutionnels actuels autour de la santé mentale des populations d’origine africaine présentes en France ?

La deuxième Journée d'études des jeunes chercheurs et chercheuses du CHAC - Centre d'Histoire de l'Asie contemporaine de l'université Paris 1 - réunira les masterant·e·s, doctorant·e·s et jeunes docteurs du centre autour du thème des processus de catégorisation dans les empires et de l'usage de ces catégories par les historiennes et historiens. Les catégories de races, genres mais aussi tribus ou castes, jouent en effet un rôle majeur dans la construction de rapports de domination dans les empires.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
Televisions began to appear in the homes of large numbers of the public in Europe and North America after World War II. This coincided with a period in which ideas about the public’s health, the problems that it faced and the solutions that could be offered, were changing. The threat posed by infectious diseases was receding, to be replaced by chronic conditions linked to lifestyle and individual behaviour. Public health professionals were enthusiastic about how this new technology. TV offered a way to reach large numbers of people with public health messages; it symbolised the post war optimism about new directions in public health. But it could also act as a contributory factor to those new public health problems.

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
The conference aims to bring together scholars from different fields (such as, but not limited to, history, history of science, history of medicine, communication, media and film studies, television studies) working on the history of television in Great Britain, France and Germany (West and East) (the focus of the ERC BodyCapital project), but also other European countries, North and South America, Russia, Asia or other countries and areas. Papers might focus on one national, regional or even local framework. Considering the history of health-related (audio-) visuals as a history of transfer, as entangled history or with a comparative perspective are welcome. The organizers welcome contributions with a strong historical impetus from all social and cultural sciences.

The circulation of artists, writings and choreographical techniques
Ce colloque, qui privilégie la parole des artistes et le dialogue avec les chercheurs, contribue à un projet de recherche plus large sur les histoires connectées de la danse, qui a inclus et inclura d’autres manifestations scientifiques et journées d’étude sur des figures majeures de la scène et leurs apports à la danse et au théâtre contemporains. Il abordera, entre autres, la question de la transmission du répertoire et des techniques de danse, l’élaboration dialogique des savoirs chorégraphiques, mais aussi la notation en danse, la censure, la dissidence, la résistance, la naissance des avant-gardes artistiques, ou encore l’exil suite aux changements sociaux et aux persécutions politiques.

Excess? Images of body, health, morality and emotions across the media
A central goal of the workshop is to open up an international exchange and to connect perspectives from the history of science, the history of emotions, the history of the body and media history in order to shed new light on a history of health as a cultural history. The event is part of the research project “The Healthy Self as Body Capital: Individuals, Market-Based Societies, and Body Politics in Visual Twentieth Century Europe” funded by the European Research Council under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Advanced Grant agreement No 694817) led by Christian Bonah (University of Strasbourg) and Anja Laukötter (Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin).

Study days to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the opening of the Collège Trilingue
En 2017, plus précisément le 27 août, nous avons fêté le 500e anniversaire de la mort de Jérôme de Busleyden, mieux connu des humanistes sous le nom de Hieronymus Buslidius. Né à Arlon vers 1470, ami d’Érasme et de Thomas More, il est à l’origine de la fondation en 1517, au sein de l’Université de Louvain, du Collegium Trilingue (aussi appelé Collegium Trium Linguarum, Collegium Buslidianum, ou Collegie der Dry Tonghen). Le Collège (dont le bâtiment subsiste à Louvain, remanié, mais avec certaines parties d’époque) fut inauguré en septembre 1518. L’institut orientaliste de l’université catholique de Louvain se propose, quant à lui, de profiter de ces commémorations pour aborder un domaine relativement peu étudié : le développement de l’enseignement des langues orientales et, plus largement, des études orientales, au sein de l’Université catholique restaurée en 1834.

Alfred Sohn-Rethel (1899-1990) and his work today
L’œuvre d’Alfred Sohn-Rethel (1899-1990) s’est construite autour d’une thèse, sans cesse retravaillée : l’origine des concepts abstraits de l’entendement ne se trouve pas dans un a priori métaphysique, mais procède de l’être social, plus précisément de l’acte de l’échange, concrétisé dans l’usage de la monnaie frappée. Cette thèse, anti-kantienne et marxiste dans son projet, a suscité des réactions très contrastées, entre enthousiasme et rejet virulent. Près de 30 ans après la disparition du philosophe, un regain d’intérêt pour son œuvre semble se dessiner, d’où l’objectif de ce colloque : interroger la fécondité, voire l’actualité de ses intuitions.

The international conference Reframing the (Art) World/Redéfinir le monde (de l’art) aims at concluding an intense three-year research carried out within the frame of the research programme PRISME, hosted at the Archives de la critique d’art (Archives of Art Criticism in Rennes). By following a multidisciplinary approach, the aim of this conference is to reframe a still little-known chapter of cultural history, in order to reconsider art criticism as a historical and epistemological prism in regard to international issues since the second half of the XXth century.

In the television age, health and the body have been broadcasted in many ways: in short health education films, school television, professional training materials, TV ads, documentaries, reality TV shows and news, as well as stand-alone videos distributed to specific audiences. This three-day conference proposes an exploration of how television formats have influenced and staged bodies, health and healthy practices from local, regional, national and international perspectives, and how these TV programmes spread the conviction that viewers could and should invest in their health and shape their own body.

Les organisateurs de cette conférence invitent la communauté scientifique à présenter des travaux de recherche et à débattre sur le rôle de la science, de la technologie et du patrimoine dans le monde maritime dans des contextes de « déglobalisation » / globalisation du XXe siècle. Il s’agira de comprendre la fonction des principaux espaces et des acteurs, et d’analyser les politiques publiques nationales et internationales à différentes échelles (du local à l’international), dans un contexte de guerres, de crises, de croissance économique et de colonisation/décolonisation.
