  Knowledges, Sciences, Techniques and State building in Iberian America, 1790-1870

  Over the last few decades the renewal of the history of the sciences has been marked by an opening towards non-European spaces, especially the Iberian Americas, and by the study of the relations between knowledges and power. We now have at our disposal a growing body of work on the imperial sciences, the contribution of the colonies to the advancement of knowledge, more particularly the natural sciences, and on the Enlightenment and the links between sciences, revolutions and independence in the colonial territories. However it is the opposite hypothesis that we seek to explore, highlighting both the modalities by which the legacy of the imperial, colonial Enlightenment was passed on and transformed, and the processes which meant that late 19th century Ibero-American societies, including Brazil and the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean, were ready to take full advantage of the new scientistic paradigm with a rapidity that ought to strike us as surprising.

  Seminar - Ethnology, anthropology

  The anthropology of life and representations of the living

  Depuis ses origines, l’anthropologie n’a cessé d’aborder la question de la vie à partir de diverses perspectives, en étudiant la vie sociale des groupes humains, les ethnoclassifications ou encore les rites qu’Hocart proposait d’envisager comme les applications d’une « science de la vie ». Plus récemment, se sont développées des approches relevant de l’anthropologie cognitive, de la phénoménologie, de la sémiologie ou de l’anthropologie des techniques tandis que les travaux consacrés à la biopolitique ou aux biotechnologies se sont multipliés. L’objectif du séminaire est d’articuler les résultats obtenus dans ces différentes traditions méthodologiques afin de réfléchir à la manière dont la vie pourrait devenir un véritable objet d’investigation pour l’anthropologie.

  Como resultado da articulação de vontades diversas, surgiu e vem se consolidando no país, uma Rede Brasileira de História da Geografia e Geografia Histórica, voltada à pesquisa e ao reconhecimento das relações entre a história e a geografia, ao estudo correlato dos processos de constituição dos conhecimentos geográficos e dos processos de conformação territorial. A Revista Terra Brasilis (Nova Série) retoma a trajetória anterior da revista com renovado interesse de pesquisa nas áreas de história da geografia e geografia histórica como expressão renovada da recém criada Rede Brasileira de História da Geografia e Geografia Histórica
