  Operative knowledges of matter, from Renaissance to industrialization

  Following the renewal of the history of Technology and of the history of chemistry, this Research Seminar intends to explore operative knowledge in chemistry in connection with several fields including economics, political management, consumption and production processes. It seeks to shed a light, since the Early modern period, on various configurations where experimentation, exploration, transformation of Matter were held, through a wide range of technical devices. We will underline cross-skills, transfers and hybridization of processes, and we will show how operative knowledge fostered multiple appropriations: we will then explore the diversity of practices and know-how which allowed specific actions on substances and transformations of matter, and which were the basis of innovation and industrialization and of the reshaping of environment on the long run.

  In-Corporate. The Human Sciences in Business History: between Naturalization and Legitimization (1880-1940)

  Even if human scientists and business executives like to argue otherwise, the human sciences have always been in-corporated. Without them, the modern business corporation would simply have been unimaginable, just as the production and consumption of working bodies within these corporations. ‘The Firm’ continues to frame itself as a fundamental human enterprise, in which the prominence of human ressources and human relations only continues to increase, yet the humanities of the business corporation largely remain to be written.

  Les pratiques académiques. Histoire de l’enseignement supérieur à l’époque contemporaine

  Séminaire d'histoire de l'enseignement supérieur

  La quatrième année du séminaire de l’histoire de l’enseignement supérieur organisé par le Service d’histoire de l’éducation, INRP-ENS sera consacrée à la question des « pratiques académiques », entendues comme l’étude des pratiques professionnelles inhérentes à la profession d’universitaire. Ces pratiques peuvent s’inscrire dans la trilogie « pratiques pédagogiques, pratiques de recherche et pratiques sociales liées à l’exercice de la fonction ». Par cette approche, il s’agit de s’extraire de l’espace proprement intellectuel de l’activité universitaire pour tenter d’en saisir les comportements spécifiques et/ou récurrents comme les formes d’appartenance à la communauté. Cette approche en terme de pratique devrait permettre d’interroger la notion même de corps universitaire, dans ses modalités de distinction d’avec l’enseignement secondaire mais aussi dans ses différenciations internes (hiérarchiques, locales, disciplinaires ou facultaires).
