Programming, Curating, and Appropriation of Non-fiction Film
The digital turn, which has created new modes of access and circulation for films, underscores and amplifies what has been the fate of non-fiction film since the beginning of its existence - it has always been, and continues to be, a migrating archive of reality. Practices of digitization, online programming, digital curation, appropriation, and sharing, open up new spaces and layers of meaning. Moreover, they also alter and sometimes overwrite the original or historical meaning of non-fiction films, with significant epistemic, political, and ethical consequences. The conference strives to address these challenges, taking into account the diverse views of (media and film) historians, archivists, (digital) curators, and artists, who could comment on issues of programming, curation and appropriation (especially archival) of non-fiction film in history and today.

Fidèle à son principe de diffusion de la recherche en train de se faire et librement accessible, le Bucema continue à mettre l’accent sur l’interdisciplinarité ‐sciences humaines et sociales, sciences de la nature et mathématiques‐, comme le meilleur moyen d’inventer une nouvelle médiévistique. Il est particulièrement intéressé par les contributions proposant des nouvelles méthodes, faisant état d’expériences dans le domaine des humanités numériques (digital humanities) et des nouvelles technologies, s’interrogeant sur les implications épistémologiques et conceptuelles des recherches sur le Moyen Âge.

The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference
The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

Pour la cinquième année consécutive et dans le cadre du master d'histoire, parcours « Bibliothèques, archives, médiation de l'histoire et humanités numériques », un atelier professionnel Visual Studies est organisé sur le thème suivant : « Partager les livres et les archives : collaborations, associations, mutualisation ». Il s'agira de s'interroger sur les transformations liées à la valorisation des collections des centres documentaires ces dernières années, de la place des espaces virtuels dans ces échanges et de la mise en place de nouvelles formes de mutualisations de compétences et de ressources des différentes institutions présentes pour cette journée. L'atelier, orienté sur les Visual Studies, s'intéressera à ces questions du point de vue des archives sonores et audiovisuelles, des livres d'art et des images d'archives sur l'aire méditerranéenne.

5th International "Language and Territory" Colloquium
This multidisciplinary colloquium will discuss the different ways that languages and territories are linked, and will show the political, social and economic stakes that arise from the relationships between them. Above all, these terms refer to men and women with their social practices and representations, at the core of the logic of territoriality. New territories give rise to new language practices, which, in turn, create new spaces, discourse and meaning. The "boundaries" we draw between languages and territories are permeable in time and space, depending on factors such as population displacement, language policies, linguistic and social representations, education, mass media and socio-cultural values.

The circulation, distribution, and reproduction of images and texts in periodicals at the turn of the century (1870-1930)
La fin du XIXe siècle peut être considérée comme l’achèvement d’un ensemble de processus de systématisation et de rationalisation des techniques de production et de diffusion de l’imprimé : au niveau technique, la mise au point des procédés de reproduction photomécanique rendant possible la reproduction à faible coût et sans perte d’information des images et des textes ; au niveau rhétorique, le journalisme valorise des formes simples, directes, qui augmentent l’efficacité communicationnelle. La question que souhaite soulever ce colloque est celle de la pertinence de l’application de la notion de viralité à la culture (et plus particulièrement la culture de la presse) au tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles.

Intersections. New perspectives for public humanities
HFC-INT 2020
The international network Humanities for Change, in accordance with the interdisciplinary spirit and the contaminatory approach that characterize its activities, intends to organize a day of study on the theme of public humanities. The meeting aims to stimulate some reflections coming from different fields of knowledge and to encourage the dialogue between researchers on the possibilities of the humanities to escape from academic circles. In this sense, the main object of study is the analysis of methodologies and tools related to knowledge dissemination practices for historical, artistic and philological-literary disciplines. Particular attention will also be given to new professional figures connected to the degree courses of the humanities faculties (such as the 'public historian') and to the interactions of these professional figures with the new media of communication and mass dissemination.

Omeka est devenu un des principaux outils d'édition et de valorisation de corpus, de fonds, d'archives et de bibliothèques numériques. Depuis 12 ans (la première version a été publiée en février 2008), son usage s'est diffusé au sein des projets de recherche, des laboratoires, des bibliothèques, des institutions culturelles et des sociétés savantes. Autour, s’est développé un véritable écosystème de pratiques, de services et de développements que nous proposons d’aborder lors de deux journées d'études ouvertes à toutes et tous ayant un projet de publication numérique de contenus ou étant intéressés par l'étude et la valorisation de données culturelles.

Eschatology is one of the central components of medieval Christian culture. The end of the world, the Last Judgment, salvation, Messianism, the Antichrist, the Apocalypticism and millenarianism are inescapable elements in what we may generally describe as "Medieval eschatology". It is the intention of the International Conference "The Medieval Eschatology" to provide a venue for reflecting on these as well as other eschatological issues that may be proposed. This can be done analytically or descriptively from both a practical and theoretical approach.

Le développement de l’économie numérique à l’échelle mondiale conduit à replacer la couleur dans d’autres dimensions « virtuelles » et surtout à associer différentes disciplines telles que l’histoire, l’art et l’architecture, vidéo, impression 2D et 3D, informatique graphique, imagerie numérique, etc. Couleurs des milieux naturels, couleurs et lumières du ciel, couleurs extraites des matières de l’environnement, couleurs végétales, minérales, animales, etc. dialoguent et rencontrent les couleurs numériques sous toutes leurs formes : Atlas, nuanciers, diagrammes CIE, espaces colorimétriques, réalité virtuelle et augmentée, analyse et synthèse d’image, patrimoine reconstruit et restauration, écrans et visualisation, photographie et vidéo, création artistique, design de formes et de matières, langages, etc.

Art Markets : An Integrated Perspective 2020
International Summer School - Antwerp-Brussels July 6-10, 2020
Inspired by the success of the first Art Markets Summer School held in Lyon in June 2019, a second edition of this unique research, training and networking experience will take place in July 2020 in Belgium. A team of international experts from relevant fields such art history, economics, sociology, finance and digital humanities will engage with participants with an academic or professional interest in the global art market. An exciting program combining lectures, workshops and field trips will familiarize the participants with the nature and structure of the art market system. Attention will be given to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the various actors in the art market and the available methodological tools to study this fascinating yet complex phenomenon. This immersive experience will inspire and shape new interdisciplinary thinking about the emergence, history and dynamics of art markets around the world.
