  Between the Imperial Eye and the Local Gaze

  Cartographies of Southeast Europe

  The Association international d’études du sud-est européen is happy to invite you to the 12^th Congress of South-East European Studies, taking place in Bucharest, from the 2^nd to the 7^th of September 2019. One of the conference panels, organized by Robert Born (Leipzig) and Marian Coman (Bucharest), is dedicated to the cartographic history of south-eastern Europe. Proposals for individual papers are welcome on various aspects of the history of south-eastern Europe cartography, from the Ottoman period to the post-communist era. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: Renaissance and Early Modern maps of the Ottoman Empire, Enlightenment cartographies of Eastern Europe, the birth of national cartography, war and peace cartographies, historical and propaganda maps, national and local surveys, Cold War cartographies.

  Envisioning Latin America: Power and Representation in audiovisual (re)productions

  Forma Revista d'Estudis Comparatius. Art, Literatura, Pensament

  This issue seeks to critically address power structures in audiovisual (re)productions in and from Latin America and discuss how these play a role in the societal construction and representation of individual and collective identities, the ‘us’ and the ‘other’. By doing so, it aims at understanding how these representations – and broader discourses associated therewith – can be critically examined through media productions (cinema, television, radio, photography etc.) and their use as historical sources.

  À l'occasion du centenaire de la première guerre mondiale, ce colloque a pour but d'analyser la naissance des services cinématographiques militaires qui éclosent dans le monde au tournant des années 1914-1918. Il s'agira de travailler davantage sur la genèse et l’évolution des structures spécialisées dans la production d'images animées au profit des armées et des États que sur les productions et leurs contenus.

  Les formes de l'attente

  Appel à contributions consacrées à « l'attente ». On passe sa vie à attendre. Rien de moins neutre en vérité que les périodes d’attente, ces intervalles étranges apparemment sans histoire. Qu’est-ce qui se joue dans ces stases où le temps est comme suspendu ?Quelles sont les formes historiques de l’attente ? Quelles en sont les formes non-occidentales ? Comment penser l’attente au sein d’autres systèmes temporels, moins « progressistes » que le nôtre ? Existe-t-il des sociétés sans attente ? Quelles autres conceptions de l’attente, peut-être plus positives, nous permettent-elles d’entrevoir ?Quels sont les lieux, les formes et les espaces de, l’attente ayant récemment émergés ? Textes finaux attendus pour fin janvier 2011.

  La conquête de l'air, naissance d'un nouvel imaginaire ? 1900-1920

  Dans le cadre des manifestations qui commémorent le centenaire des vols de Wilbur Wright au Mans en 1908 est organisé par l’Université du Maine un colloque international sur l’aviation pionnière en octobre 2008. L’apparition de l’aviation au début du XXe siècle a profondément bouleversé les sociétés humaines, bien entendu d’un point de vue technique, mais également dans leurs relations, que celles-ci soient guerrières ou pacifiques. Plus profondément encore, cette invention a vraisemblablement suscité la naissance d’une nouvelle façon de concevoir la réalité, l’espace, les rapports entre les hommes. C’est sur l’apparition de ce nouvel imaginaire que ce colloque international propose de réfléchir avec l'approche d’une histoire culturelle et anthropologique.
