To this Thematic Dossier, we suggest to focus on these materials, having in mind the relation between built heritage, knowledge and society. It is proposed a multidisciplinary, wide and diversified approach of the various aspects that influence the patrimonial existence of cities. It aims to explore diversified aspects of mediation between these materials and cultural heritage. Thus, all are invited to present creative and original studies and reflections.

Renewals for Architecture and Social Housing?
8th thematics folder of the “Cahiers de la recherche architecturale, urbaine et paysagère” (Craup)
This call for papers concerns social housing, a rapidly changing and significant field for those who practice architecture, landscape architecture and spatial planning. Present throughout Europe at various levels, from 4% in Romania to 32% in the Netherlands, social housing heavily contributes to urban renewal. Through its material and non-material renovation, as well as the evolution of meanings, stakeholders and populations, new dynamics emerge that influence architectural, urban and landscape forms, modes of living and careers in spatial production. This volume seeks to identify and decode these dynamics through three axes: 1) Towards new models; 2) Between heritage, urban renewal and sustainable development; 3) Spatial forms and social arrangements.

Above all, the call for papers emphasizes the correlation between hospitality and space. Jacques Godbout, in his article "Receiving is to give", specifies that hospitality is a "gift of space". So what are the characteristics of these given spaces? Are they permanent, temporary or transitional? Are there inherent areas of hospitality? And how are they built? From hospitals to home, what are these spaces and what is their spatial nature? And what meaning of hospitality do these spaces convey? What kind of space does hospitality produce?

Cette semaine de travail et d'échanges sera l'occasion de comparer et de discuter de positionnements, d'approches et de résultats de recherche, d'explorer des croisements interdisciplinaires, d'expérimenter des méthodes d'analyse innovantes. Au travers d'ateliers, de mises en situation, de discussions avec des conférenciers invités, il s’agit d’une occasion de faire des avancées marquantes dans sa propre démarche.

Organized by AHICF as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the first world war outbreak, the conference, by focusing on stations, should highlight the importance of transport in the first world war history. It aims to bring together historians and social scientists (including junior scholars) and heritage professionals. The call for papers will run from October 1, 2013 to March 1, 2014. Proposals (title, outline, including an indication of prospective sources, brief CV) should be sent by March 1, 2014 to: contact@ahicf.com. Potential authors will be informed of the programme committee’s decision by May 1, 2014. Papers may be presented in English and French.

Cette session au onzième colloque international d’histoire urbaine prétend les explorer. -

Territorial constructions and social transformations: migrations, 19th-21st centuries
Depuis une vingtaine d’années, l’histoire des migrations, tant infra nationales qu’internationales, a vu ses chantiers et ses sujets renouvelés. Si les questions de mémoire et d’identité restent prégnantes, les questions d’acceptation ou de refus, d’inclusion ou d’exclusion des nouveaux arrivants ont pris de l’importance, que ce soit pour traiter des migrations très contemporaines ou pour revisiter les migrations des deux derniers siècles. Il faut ajouter la question des retours qui n'a jamais été réellement abordée ou celle de l'écriture de cette histoire, notamment la manière dont les musées par les expositions sur le sujet participent de la construction des mémoires. Ce sont quelques-unes de ces différentes questions qui seront abordées lors des deux jours qui, en dialogue avec l’équipe de l’UMR TELEMME, prolongent de précédentes journées d’études organisées par le LARHRA.

The Pain and the Words of Precarity and Excusion in France in XXth Century
Le Laboratoire ICT de l'Université Paris VII organise les 12 et 13 mai 2011 une journée d'étude « Les maux et les mots de la précarité et de l'exclusion en France au XXe siècle ». Il s'agit dans un premier temps d'analyser les maux, les pathologies qui fondent la précarité ou l'exclusion ou qui en découlent. Puis sera étudié le passage des maux aux mots qui disent et le plus souvent stigmatisent la précarité et l'exclusion. Enfin les communications porteront sur le rôle de l'État face à la protection des exclus, ses modes d'intervention et leurs limites: faut-il judiciariser la protection sociale des exclus ? Le marché doit-il se substituer à l’État en matière de protection sociale des exclus ?
