  Prison spaces in the Middle Ages: an interdisciplinary approach to the territories and materialities of medieval incarceration

  While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

  Labels in the field of cultural and natural heritage

  Created in the 60s, the label's use for cultural and natural heritage has increased dramatically for several years, specially in France. Inherited from the marketing and trade world, the use of labels for cultural and natural heritage illustrates the expansion of heritage's conception to new artefacts and new cultural properties, in an anthropological meaning. Some recent studies on the cultural and natural heritage labels  insist on the economic benefits for development of territories. But the legal and institutional dimensions of labels in heritage have been ignored. The goal  of the symposium is to define and precise the purposes and the caracteristics of labels in the field of heritage.

  Le gouvernement des communautés politiques à la fin du Moyen Âge (XIIIe-XVe siècle)

  Entre puissance et négociation : État, ville, finances

  En hommage à Albert Rigaudière, professeur émérite à l'Université Panthéon-Assas, membre de l'Institut, trois journées d'études et d'échanges scientifiques sont organisées en collaboration avec l’IGPDE-CHEFF, l'Université Panthéon-Assas et l'Institut de France. Abordant successivement les trois volets de la fiscalité, de la construction étatique et du gouvernement urbain, une trentaine de chercheurs internationaux croiseront leurs sources et leurs questionnements pour tenter de mieux saisir les acteurs, les pratiques et les enjeux de l’organisation et du fonctionnement des pouvoirs urbains : comment légitimer l’impôt ? Quel est le discours fiscal des élites ? Quels sont les hommes qui gouvernent les finances ? En quels termes le corps politique est-il pensé ? Quelles sont les voies de la construction étatique ? Qu’est-ce qu’une ville au Moyen Âge ?
