Graphics of territories / Territories of graphics
Le dessin contemporain s’émancipe du point, de la ligne, du plan pour prendre corps dans une nouvelle écologie de l’image. Du tracé de contour à l’intention - dans le sillage des acceptions du disegno de la Renaissance - il entraîne avec lui des représentations inédites du monde, de son exploitation et de ses possibles. En se désolidarisant du papier, il s’envisage sur de nouveaux territoires. De l’esquisse préparatoire aux installations graphiques, le terreau du dessin, son ancrage ne se réduisent plus à un support plat. Le tracé s’émancipe de la bidimensionnalité du subjectile qui lui est communément associée, pour se déployer dans de nouvelles dimensions, sur de nouveaux supports, par de nouvelles gestualités. Le dessin de l’espace et l’espace du dessin ouvrent ainsi à une réflexion sur les territoires physiques comme les territoires sensibles. Il engage de même une pensée du faire directement liée aux innovations technologiques, techniques, numériques, comme au déterminisme imposé à la ligne par une grammaire propre aux territoires et à la cartographie.

Garden cities for the 21st century
Valorization, preservation and challenges in France, Europe and the world
The aim of this symposium is to put into perspective the different dimensions of a common heritage stemming from the garden city concept developed by Ebenezer Howard in 1898. An overview of the situation, a comparative approach and postulations on possible futures are expected. Four lines of thought and questioning are envisaged. The themes will transversally address the dimension of the built environment and the outdoor space, at different scales encompassing collective spaces of sociability, materiality of places, representations, practices, and so forth.

Theatre - a behavioural laboratory in relation to climatic change?
Ce projet ouvre un champ de recherche interdisciplinaire croisant les études théâtrales et les sciences sociales (psychologie sociale, sociologie et géographie en particulier) pour aborder la question d’un art participatif et citoyen vis-à-vis du réchauffement climatique. Les porteurs de ce projet aimeraient revenir dans un premier temps sur des expériences participatives menées en arts ces dernières années, qui invitent les spect-acteurs.rices à de nouvelles relationnalités avec les autres et/ou avec l’environnement. Les chercheur.es sont désireux de développer ce faisant une terminologie commune et d’examiner comment les méthodologies peuvent être davantage croisées. Dans un second temps, les chercheurs en psychologie exposeront des champs ou des actions de recherche, qui inspireront ensuite, au cours d’ateliers, des expériences artistiques et pourront donner lieu à des recherches-créations artistiques et interdisciplinaires.

Local-ness through the prism of ecological transition
La recherche « le local au prisme de la transition écologique » vise à saisir « par le bas » la notion de « local » en portant l’attention sur les processus de reterritorialisation des activités portés par la transition écologique (TE). Elle consiste à identifier et donner à voir à la fois les liens de proximité que ces activités tissent et les interrelations qu’elles introduisent entre acteurs à différentes échelles. Cette recherche s’appuie dans un premier temps sur le recensement et la cartographie des activités TE productives et de service, publiques, privées et associatives au sein de territoires préalablement sélectionnés. Par exemple : circuits courts alimentaires ou énergétiques, filières de matériaux bio-sourcés, organisations liées à l’économie sociale et solidaire (protection de l'environnement, lutte contre l'exclusion, santé).

"The grass is always greener" - gardens and politics
Franco-German histories, experiences and perspectives
Le CEREG (EA 4223) de l’Université de Nanterre, l’équipe de recherche « Mondes allemands » (EA 1577) de l’Université Paris VIII Vincennes Saint-Denis, l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles et la fondation Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau organisent, du 14 au 16 mai 2020 un colloque franco-allemand sur le thème « “Sortir de l’enclos” : jardins et politique(s). Histoires, expériences et perspectives franco-allemandes ». Il s'agira de s’interroger sur les liens qu’ont entretenus, depuis le XVIIe siècle, les jardins avec la politique en France et en Allemagne, mais aussi d’examiner de récentes initiatives où le jardin, compris comme processus vivant, se transforme en lieu d’expression de la démocratie et de la citoyenneté. L’histoire des deux pays, parfois adverse et souvent intimement mêlée, incite en effet à tendre des miroirs pour révéler des mouvements et aspirations profondes des deux sociétés, étudier les contrastes et transferts mutuels, et croiser les études de terrain dans ce domaine encore peu exploré qu’est l'art comparé des jardins.

From the individual to the collective
The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

Conference at Hadrian's Villa
To mark the five hundredth anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death, the “Istituto Autonomo Villa Adriana e Villa d’Este - Villae” (Tivoli, Rome) is organizing a conference with the theme of: “Leonardo and Antiquity”, at Hadrian’s Villa. At the dawn of the 16th century, Leonardo da Vinci visited Villa Adriana, then known as “old Tivoli”. The conference in preparation intends to explore ways in which this journey influenced Leonardo's genius, also in the context of the time period and work of Leonardo's contemporaries and/or disciples. In the company of internationally recognized keynote speakers, the conference welcomes the participation of both Italian and foreign researchers and scholars who answer this call for papers, as a major focus of the conference will be to place Leonardo's trip to Tivoli within a broader cultural context. The deadline for the paper proposals is fixed at January 25th, 2019.

The spatialisation and temporalisation of hospitality
We would like to question the spatial dimensions of hospitality, that is to say the way the possibility of hospitality can be conceived spatially. Correlatively, we would like to investigate the fact that the lived experience of hospitality corresponds to a temporal dynamic of gestures, relations, moments that are necessarily associated with spaces. Therefore, how does a dialogue take place, or not, in the design phase between these spatial and temporal dimensions (components) of hospitality? How is hospitality incorporated into the intentions of architects, landscape designers, artists, designers? How can one formulate in the very design phase architectural, landscape, design, artistic proposals which contribute towards hospitality?

Éliane Beaufils, du département d’études théâtrales organise le vendredi 14 décembre 2018 de 9h-18h un colloque intitulé « Le théâtre face à l’avenir climatique ». Ce colloque étudie des formes théâtrales et performantielles qui traitent de la catastrophe climatique. Il cherchera à analyser comment les scènes confrontent les spectateurs à de nouvelles relations interhumaines et interspécifiques, et comment elles les appellent à l’action et/ou à l’imagination du futur. Les voies d’une scène politique écologique, une scène climapolitique, se dessinent-elles ?

The circulation and renewal of knowledge about nature and the environment in France and Germany
Ce colloque propose une réflexion comparée sur la construction et la diffusion des savoirs sur la nature et l’environnement, en France et en Allemagne, afin d’interroger l’émergence et le succès du champ d’études des humanités environnementales. À travers une mise en regard épistémologique et pluridisciplinaire – associant les lettres et les sciences sociales –, il s’agit de se demander pourquoi l’on vient à parler d’humanités environnementales, dans quels contextes, à propos de quels objets et quels modes d’analyse, et ce alors même que l’énoncé n’est pas complètement stabilisé. Questionner la construction de ce champ dans les contextes nationaux français et allemand est riche de sens, d’autant que l’on sait les deux « traditions nationales » des rapports à la nature souvent présentées comme clivées (schématiquement, la filiation des Lumières en France, celle du romantisme en Allemagne), alors que les processus historiques ont été plus complexes.

However the Mediterranean region with its rich natural and cultural diversity, both terrestrial and marine will be very present ! The event will host the MED Social and creative community featured by TALIA (Territorial Appropriation of Leading-edge Innovation Actions), the Interreg-MED Programme’s horizontal project promoting the coherence and impact of modular projects addressing the topics of Cultural and Creative Industries and Social Innovation.

In the Atlantic World, 1400-1900
Since April 2015, the international team working on the project “African Ivories in the Atlantic World: a reassessment of Luso-African ivories” (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia: PTDC/EPH-PAT/1810/2014), composed of 27 researchers from the University of Lisbon, the University of Évora and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, has been researching the trade, circulation and production of raw and carved African ivory in the Atlantic area from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The team has identified and listed objects from Portuguese and Brazilian (Minas Gerais) collections, also collecting references and descriptions extant in written Portuguese sources. For the first time a selection of ivory pieces was subjected to lab tests with a view to helping establish their age and origin. The project research team has submitted proposals for re-interpreting material culture in the framework of its African contexts of production.

Inhabiting immersive territories in the Anthropocene
Habiter les territoires immersifs : perspectives écologiques, neuroscientifiques et esthétiques sur la littérature, les arts et le jeu vidéo à l’ère de l’Anthropocène. Alors que les habitats naturels se dégradent, les arts nous proposent des expériences immersives, qui ouvrent vers des modes nouveaux de l’habiter. Le jeu vidéo, la littérature, le cinéma, le théâtre, l’art contemporain créent des territoires qui nous invitent à l’exploration et au vagabondage, à la flânerie et à la contemplation. Que peuvent nous apprendre écologie, neuroscience et esthétique sur ces activités dont les enjeux éthiques et esthétiques – agencés au sein d’œuvres spécifiques – s’étendent à la manière dont habitons notre environnement planétaire ?

An Environmental History of the Great War
We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.
