Le colloque international de jeunes chercheurs sur les Grecs face à l'imperium romanum explorera la manière dont les communautés grecques s’adaptèrent et s’accommodèrent localementau nouvel ordre global créé par l'empire romain, et cela en liant les notions d’adhésion, de participation et de résilience — cette dernière étant entendue comme la capacité à surmonter un changement et à s’y adapter.

Resilience, participation and adhesion of Greek communities in the construction of an empire (2nd century BC– 1st century AD)

Ce colloque adressé aux jeunes chercheurs propose d'étudier la manière dont les communautés grecques réagirent à la progression de l'imperium Romanum en Grèce entre le II^e s. av. n.è. et le I^er s. de n.è, depuis la seconde guerre de Macédoine jusqu'à l'année des Quatre Empereurs. Nous voulons retracer les étapes et les éléments de cette histoire où l’ingérence administrative et militaire de Rome dans les affaires des communautés grecques, parfois brutale, céda progressivement la place, selon des rythmes variés et non sans moments de crise, à la participation plus ou moins active et délibérée de ces communautés au fonctionnement de l’Empire. Comment s'adaptèrent ces communautés grecques s'adaptèrent-elles et s'accomodèrent-elles localement à un nouvel ordre global ?

The 15^th International Congress of Diplomatics organized by the Commission internationale de diplomatique, which is being held between the 4th and 6th of October at Leipzig, studies the diplomatic characteristics of medieval and early modern charters and the related documentation being used in “international” and interreligious diplomacy. The main objective of the conference is to analyse the "international" and interreligious repertoire of types and forms of the documents as well as their regional specific characteristics. Special attention will be dedicated to the different stages of tradition and the consequences for historical interpretation focussing on the internal and external characteristics of the diplomatic documentation.

25th Modern Greek Studies Conference of French-speaking universities

The biennial Congress of French-speaking Modern Greek Studies scholars will take place from October 12^th to October 14^th, 2017 in Aix-en-Provence. Its aim is to bring together researchers from every domain of the humanities and social sciences. The issue at the heart of this 15^th Congress is the historical progress of certain areas of study towards the status of full-fledged disciplines of the humanities and social sciences in Greece from the moment of the establishment of the Greek state (1830) and within a context allowing the study of this phenomenon in both its regional and its international dimensions.

The works of the Congress will be organized around the following themes:

1. The emergence, institutionalization, reproduction and diffusion of disciplinary bodies of knowledge.

2. The way each discipline positions itself with relation to other fields of knowledge and implements its theoretical foundations

3. The processes of establishing legitimacy for the new disciplines and for the groups framing them

4. Disciplinarization and the field of Modern Greek Studies

Abstracts must be submitted before February 28^th, 2017, in either French or English.

9th international conference of doctoral students of the Byzantine world

Pour la neuvième année consécutive, les rencontres internationales des doctorants du monde byzantin seront organisées à Paris les 7 et 8 octobre 2016. Elles ont pour objectif de rassembler les doctorants de toutes disciplines en rapport avec la civilisation byzantine afin de leur permettre d'exposer leurs recherches et de renforcer les liens entre les jeunes chercheurs. Toute contribution en rapport avec le monde byzantin ou post-byzantin est susceptible d'intéresser le comité d'organisation.

Voluntary Associations in the Yugoslav Space

Relations with State and Family from the Late 19th Century to the Present

The workshop focusses on the changing relationship between voluntary associations/NGOs, the state and the family. According to traditional sociological views, civil society – and thus associations, as its most frequently evoked incarnation – are conceived as being opposed to both the state and the family, a sort of free space for collective agency escaping from the strictures of both kinship structures and of the state. More recently, scholars of civil society have convincingly shown the problems with drawing a clear-cut border between the state and VAs/NGOs, and tend to see this border as porous, shifting, and subject to negotiation.

L’aristocratie odryse : signes et lieux du pouvoir en Thrace (Ve‐IIIe siècle avant J.‐C.)

The Odrysian aristocracy: insigna and seats of power (5th-3rd c. BC)

Le départ des forces perses du nord de l’Égée en 479 av. J.‐C. engage un processus de recomposition politique qui consacre l’emprise d’Athènes sur les cités grecques du littoral égéen et accompagne l’expansion du Royaume de Macédoine. Parallèlement, émerge en Thrace un pouvoir royal, celui des odryses, qui dépasse pour la première fois le cadre de la tribu en imposant sa domination sur un large territoire couvrant, sous Sitalkès (ca. 430 av. J.‐ C.), toutes les terres présentes entre les rivages nord‐égéens et le Danube. Dès lors s’élabore au sein de ce nouvel état une identité aristocratique originale qui joue un rôle unificateur auprès des élites locales. Ce colloque propose d’aborder quelques‐unes des facettes de ce Royaume odryse.

Geoarchaeological research in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea

Since the first studies undertaken in 1783 by Gablitz on the chora of Chersonesos, the Black Sea comprises an important area to look at the rural and coastal development of the Greek colonial world. Systematic surveying of ditches and walls that line the western coast of Crimea, initiated within the framework of Catherine II’s Greek project, began several decades before the earliest excavations of the urban spaces in 1832. A decisive new step was made during the 1960s, when archaeological surveys provided fresh insights into the internal organization of several kleroi close to Chersonesos, Kerkinitis and Kalos Limen. Around the same time, in the western Black Sea, the first research on the territory of Istros began, complemented by numerous geomorphological studies of the neighbouring Danube Delta. The foundations of geoarchaeological inquiry had been laid, and these have since been added to thanks to recent research undertaken throughout the Pontic area.

Symbolism and modern aesthetics in the Balkans: critical re-examination

Très peu présents dans les histoires générales de l’art européen, les Balkans – considérés ici dans leur acception historique et culturelle et non pas seulement géographique – renvoient à une tache blanche dans la cartographie du symbolisme européen. L’emploi même de cette catégorie dans les histoires de l’art locales n’a jamais fait l’objet d’études comparatives et n’a été que très rarement confronté à la situation occidentale. Ce colloque se propose d’aborder des questions liées à la réception du symbolisme, à l’usage et à la diffusion de termes ou de catégories similaires, connexes ou concurrentes dans la critique d’art et dans l’historiographie de cette partie de l’Europe.
