Call for papers - Epistemology and methodology
The emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of knowledge, 4th/10th and the 8th/14th century

One of the questions raised today by some Egyptian religious authorities is on the lawfulness and relevance of using intellectual tools foreign to the Islamic tradition to read and interpret the Qurʾān and texts of the classic Islamic heritage. Is it permissible and appropriate to use contemporary human sciences to study the texts of the Arab-Islamic patrimony or should it be limited to the Ḥadīṯ? IDEO would like to contribute to this debate by studying the emergence of the Ḥadīṯ as the authority of knowledge in the Islamic sciences between the 4ᵗʰ/10ᵗʰ and the 8ᵗʰ/14ᵗʰ century.

The Department of Gender Studies and Islamic Studies of the University of Zurich is organizing the first workshop of the Gender in University and Society (GENiUS) network on “Concepts that Matter! Terminologies of Women and Gender in Transnational Perspective”. GENiUS is an informal Swiss-Arab Network of academics specialized in the field of Gender Studies in and on the Arab region that aims at fostering scientific exchange on the levels of research, teaching and institution building.

This panel is meant to discuss these migrating populations’ mobility procedures in lusophone countries, while seeking to construct through the different presentations a broaden mosaic of reflexions about when and how these populations have moved, and how they have used and instrumentalized the "imagined" and politically constructed idea of a "lusophone community".

Dans le cadre du PRI « Pratiquer le comparatisme : terrains, textes, artefacts », ce colloque international réunit ethnologues, philologues et philosophes autour des travaux de Geoffrey Lloyd et de leur apport à la pratique du comparatisme. En prenant appui notamment sur son ouvrage Cognitive Variations (2007), nous souhaitons interroger le problème de la coexistence de causalités autour d’un même événement, en mettant en perspective des pratiques rituelles saisies en contexte divinatoire et des savoirs prédictifs constitués en corpus de connaissances.

La situation de l’enseignement de la langue arabe en France est, aujourd’hui, préoccupante. Ses caractéristiques varient entre dispersion, instabilité, positions variables de l’institution et difficulté des praticiens sur le terrain. Ainsi, l’Association française des arabisants organise une journée d’études intitulée L’enseignement de l’arabe en France, vu de tous les points de vue, à l’IUFM d’Aix en Provence le samedi 2 Février 2013, de 9h à 16h.

The seminar "History of Science, History of Text" will mainly explore textual problems related to the ERC Project SAW – "Mathematical Sciences in the Ancient World". The seminar will address the following issues regarding scientific sources: how textual sources bear witness to the social groups that produced them; How textual sources testify to knowledge; history of compilations How actors structure their texts and knowledge into parts; how textual sources reflect the material environment in which they were produced.

Ce séminaire s’inscrit dans le programme de recherche de l'UMR Ausonius (Bordeaux) « Les marchés dans le monde antique : concepts, conceptions et réalités ». Il s'agit de s'interroger sur les modèles utilisés en histoire économique pour éclairer les sociétés antiques, et notamment celui qui se dégage ces dernières années dans l’historiographie, le néo-institutionnalisme ou nouvelle économie institutionnelle. -

Expressions de la contestation
L’année 2008-2009 propose des séances qui s’ouvrent sur d’autres aires culturelles et s’intéresseront aux expressions filmiques de la contestation afin de montrer les tensions et les enjeux de domination à l’œuvre dans les sociétés du Sud. Pour l’année 2008-2009 le séminaire prévoit 10 séances et tente d’explorer du film comme expression de la contestation politique. Les politologues utilisent les films de fictions de manière plus exhaustive que par le passé et des doctorants seront invités à présenter leurs travaux d’analyses filmiques sur le cinéma comme source de compréhension des tensions à l’œuvre dans une société. -

Le droit et le waqf (fondations pieuses)
Nationalisations et le contrôle de l'État
Les présentations explorent le droit colonial vis-à-vis du waqf en tant qu'institution mais aussi les propriétés leur appartenant dans le monde musulman avant l'indépendence des pays colonisés. Dans l'objectif d'étudier le droit qui s'y adaptait ou qui s'adaptait par rapport au waqf, les contributions se concentrent sur des mécanismes légaux innovateurs ou des discussions qui ont eu lieu dans les pays concernés à l'égard du statu quo de waqf au moment des interventions coloniales à la fin du XIXe et au début du XXe siècle.
