A New Historiographical Field and its Contribution to the History of Europe
German-Polish history is an innovative and stimulating field in the history of Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. We propose to reflect the historiographical and memorial challenges that governed the formation of this field as well as the concepts and methods on which it has since been built. They are now the basis for the dynamics of the field, due in particular to its ability to associate different scales of analysis from the local to the global level. Special attention will be paid to the contribution of Polish-German history and other »bi-national« historiographies like Franco-German history to the project of writing European history especially when it comes to the specific approaches forged or adopted by historians in these fields (transfer, shared history, histoire croisée, connected history, entangled history, Zwischenraum).

Ce colloque propose d’étudier la présence des arts russes et soviétiques en France au XXe et XXIe siècles : musique, cinéma, théâtre, ballet, opéra, arts plastiques, photographie et architecture. Y seront évoqués le rôle de l’État dans les mécanismes de diffusion de l’art à l’étranger, les motivations idéologiques, les critères de sélection, la notion d’art d’exportation, les retombées médiatiques, les acteurs de l’action culturelle russe et soviétique.

The challenging of ideological, institutional and (geo)political heritage
This conference aims at rethinking the legacy of 1989 in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) through the prism of its ongoing contestations, with a focus on the current trends and deliberate political efforts that challenge the major achievements of Velvet Revolutions as well as the outcomes of the collapse of the Iron Curtain. 1989 launched a process that continues to this day. Three decades of transformations, crises and setbacks have noticeably changed the shape of Central and Eastern European societies.

The will for independence and its expression across territories
Le thème de l’édition 2018 des journées géopolitiques de Reims (JGR), les « Sécessions », s’inscrit dans l’actualité. Le référendum écossais en 2014 et la situation en Catalogne fin 2017 soulignent l’importance du sujet dans l’Europe contemporaine (mais aussi en France où la nouvelle Calédonie votera une dizaine de jours avant la tenu de ces JGR). Hors d’Europe, la question des sécessions est sensible au Kurdistan (référendum de septembre 2017), sur l’île de Bougainville, à Mindanao, etc. Ainsi, la volonté d’indépendance s’exprime dans de nombreux territoires. Les intervenants souligneront ce paradoxe dans un contexte de mondialisation.

Transnational dimensions of dealing with the past in ‘Third Wave’ democracies
Southern Europe, Central Eastern Europe, and the Former Soviet Union in Global Perspective
This conference aims to fill the gap by looking at how post-dictatorial justice and memory experiences in Southern Europe, Central Eastern Europe, and the former Soviet Union after the “third wave of democratization” have reciprocally affected each other. It also seeks to unpack how memorialization practices in these regions were shaped by and influenced in turn criminalization discourses in other geographical contexts (Latin America, Asia, Africa). The conference focuses on transnational activism, transfers of knowledge, and expertise at bilateral, regional or international levels, the impact of legal and mnemonic narratives outside their countries of origin, and the role of international organizations and NGO's in dealing with mass violence. The conference aims thus to trace the mutlidirectional circulation of ideas, norms and models of reckoning with authoritarian regimes both within these regions, and between them and other areas of the world.

Ces courants populistes sollicitent diverses ressources politiques et symboliques, dont le religieux. L’objet de ce colloque est, précisément, d’aborder l’articulation entre populisme et religion.

Péter Esterházy, the a postmodern Hungarian tale of a postmodern Hungarian count
Péter Esterházy, maître incontestable de la prose hongroise contemporaine, s’est éteint en 2016. Depuis Trois anges me surveillent, ses romans figurent parmi les textes les plus importants de la littérature postmoderne et sont disponibles dans l’Hexagone, essentiellement chez Gallimard. Ce colloque international, le premier dans l’espace francophone, a pour objectif de lui rendre hommage en réunissant des spécialistes de l’auteur, des traducteurs, des chercheurs en littérature comparée et des historiens. Articulée autour de quelques axes fondamentaux, comme la narratologie, l’histoire des idées, la traduction et l’intertextualité, la manifestation cherche à porter un regard critique français sur l’œuvre de l’écrivain magyar.

Criticisms of democracy, authoritarianism and populism in Europe
Continuities and disruptions from the inter-war period until today
Facing the feeling of »crisis« of democracy arising in recent years and symbolized by the rise of populist movements, there is a recurrent comparison with the inter-war situation in today’s political debate in many European countries. Is this comparison relevant to understand the specific democratic practices during both periods? Building on this question, the workshop serves as kick-off for the research program Which democracy/democracies? Reflections on the crisis, modernization and limits of democracy in Germany, France, England and Central Europe between 1919 and 1939 supported by the Centre interdisciplinaire d’études et de recherches sur l’Allemagne (CIERA).

1918-2018: Exiting empire. On the trail of the Russian Empire
Après le centenaire de la révolution russe, 2018 est celui de la mort des empires continentaux, dont seul l'empire russe s'est reconstitué, avant de disparaître en 1991. Ces ateliers seront consacrés aux multiples reconfigurations qui ont accompagné son éclatement, recomposition, disparition. Dans une perspective comparative, seront examinées les relations de conflit et de dépendance, de désintégration et réintégration, de circulation volontaire ou forcée des populations, qui ont structuré cet espace.

International Reordering and Societal Change (1975-1990)
Ever since its signing 40 years ago, the Helsinki Final Act has been at the heart of political and historical controversies. While at the time some saw it as an instrument designed to preserve the European status quo, today it is widely perceived as a major contribution to the end of the Cold War and the disappearance of the Soviet bloc. Twenty five years after the end of the Cold War, this conference will seek to evaluate the reality of this interaction between diplomacies and societies during and after the Helsinki conference.

Can regions understand each other?
Europe and Asia: challenges and crisis-management
Further to the first Europe-Asia conferences exploring regional regime dynamics (France, 2004), policies of regional cooperation (Korea, 2005), interregional competition (France, 2012) and the limits of regional constructions (Kazakhstan, 2014), this 2016 edition will look at the reciprocal understanding of regions and how that is conducive to their capacity (or lack thereof) to monitor crises they undergo, both specific crises and interregional ones. Papers must address original research, in regional dynamics of Asia and Europe, since the end of the cold war and focus on one area among.

Trans-Acting Matters: Areas and Eras of a (Post-)Ottoman Globalization
This workshop takes place in the framework of the research project “Trans-Acting Matters: Areas and Eras of a (Post-)Ottoman Globalization”. It aims to analyse the making of cultural policies and actions in Turkey and the post-ottoman spaces. We wish to question the ways in which the circulations participate in the construction of cultural policies today as well as to rethink the earlier cultural policies and actions from the late Ottoman Empire onwards. The workshop attempts to question the co-production of cultural policies, of their spaces and territories, as well as the plurality of the conceptions of culture carried by cultural policies. The workshop will focus on the phenomena of hybridity, of connections, and associations of various actors which co-produce original forms of cultural policies.

Mythes et représentations aux XXe et XXIe siècles
Voici une nouvelle rencontre scientifique d’un cycle dirigé par Isabelle Després (Université Grenoble-Alpes) et Evelyne Enderlein (Université de Strasbourg), entamé en 2011 et consacré à l’étude es femmes en Russie. L’approche en est pluridisciplinaire puisqu’elle porte sur des domaines tels que l’histoire, la sociologie, l’ethnologie, la politique, la littérature, les arts ou même la linguistique. Il s’agit d’explorer dans chacun d’eux le rôle joué par les femmes, d’étudier leurs conditions de vie et de création, de définir la relation entre le Féminin et le Masculin. Les méthodes scientifiques sont celles des différentes disciplines abordées, ainsi que celles, récentes, des études de genre. Cette journée d'études du 28 novembre 2014 aborde l’axe des représentations et des mythes.

Le séminaire « Politique communautaire et réforme de l'État en Europe post-communiste » (anciennement connu sous le nom « La réforme de l’État dans les pays post-communistes ») est animé par Elise Bernard et Julien Arnoult (CERSA/CNRS/université Panthéon-Assas Paris 2). Il se tient depuis 2005 au Centre d'études et de recherches en sciences administrative et politique (CERSA). Le séminaire accueille chaque mois des spécialistes qui partagent leurs connaissances et leurs recherches sur une partie ou l'ensemble de l'Europe post-communiste.

Au cours du XXe siècle, les pays et les empires autoritaires, à l’économie planifiée et se revendiquant de l’idéologie communiste ont-ils développé un rapport particulier aux ressources naturelles, aux aléas et aux catastrophes, à l’environnement en général ? Comment les États et les sociétés qui en sont les héritiers font-ils face aujourd’hui à une crise environnementale devenue multiforme et globale : conséquences des catastrophes (Kychtym, Tchernobyl, Aral...) ; inégalités environnementales ; pollutions industrielles ; risques naturels et technologiques ; changement climatique, etc. ? À l’approche historique développée ces dernières années, s’ajoutera la volonté d’aborder ces territoires dans une double perspective, celle d’espaces socialement construits par des acteurs et des stratégies et celle d’espaces structurants pour l’action publique.

French "chanson", the mirror of a plural society. From 1945 to the present day
Ces journées d’études mettront en présence pour la première fois des chercheurs, des conservateurs du patrimoine et des artistes, autour de l’histoire de la « chanson immigrée » et des artistes d’origine étrangère en France. Ce répertoire d’une chanson populaire métisse est un élément à part entière de notre mémoire collective et de notre patrimoine national. Ces journées d’étude permettront de revenir sur la richesse des collections nationales en la matière et d’enrichir la connaissance des processus de création et de diffusion de ce patrimoine musical.
