Limits of humanity, machines without limits?
The contemporary and robotic scene: exchanges and collaborations
Il convient de constater qu’aujourd’hui de nombreux artistes introduisent des solutions robotiques dans leurs créations et interrogent ainsi plusieurs visions esthétiques et concepts trans- et posthumanistes. La scène du XXIe siècle semble être à la pointe des développements actuels de la robotique, comme l’indique le nombre croissant des nouvelles productions dans ce domaine. Pour les roboticiens, cela se traduit par le développement de comportements sociocognitifs cohérents qui produisent chez les spectateurs une illusion de vie, un sentiment d'être en présence de créatures intelligentes et socialement conscientes. Dans les mêmes termes, la scène peut être considérée comme un espace privilégié pour l'étude des comportements humains, où différentes technologies peuvent être déployées pour capturer et modéliser les contingences sensorimotrices humaines. En conséquence, la scène devient un scénario semi-structuré idéal pour le développement de métriques, modèles, techniques et algorithmes capables de décrire l'interaction entre les humains et entre les humains et les robots socialement intelligents.

La nouveauté de la transdisciplinarité au sein de l’université nécessite une force de propositions pour orienter la recherche. Cette journée d’études propose de traverser ensemble la complexité du concept de temps, en le tissant à travers différentes disciplines. Il s’agit de passer du pluridisciplinaire au transdisciplinaire. Or, la pluridisciplinarité met en évidence la difficulté d’avoir un langage commun, au vu de la polysémie du vocabulaire concernant le temps. Aussi, le premier élément de notre méthodologie a été la constitution d’un lexique, que nous souhaitons incrémenter au cours de cette journée d’études, à l’aide des différentes contributions. Ce lexique, au centre de l’organisation, est un point de départ pour la réflexion, un outil de structuration de la journée.

Doctrines, intentions, publics et pratiques
Le spectacle vivant apparaît depuis quelques années comme le lieu d’une rencontre renouvelée sur scène des sciences et du théâtre. Chercheur∙e∙s et praticien∙ne∙s sont invité·e·s à proposer de courtes interventions et partager lors de cette journée leurs visions et leurs expériences personnelles en vue d’une réflexion sur l’évolution des modes de pensée et d’action dans le champ de la médiation par la culture de la fabrication conjointe des sciences et de la société. À partir d’une sélection des résumés et textes attendus, nous souhaitons mettre en discussion critique les manières de faire, engager le bilan de la diversité des conceptions et des réalisations, le tout en vue de la publication d’un ouvrage collectif à paraître au premier semestre 2021.

Locating Medical Television. The Televisual Spaces of Medicine and Health in the 20th Century
Following Broadcasting health and disease in 2017 and Tele(visualing) Health 2018, this third conference on medical television in the framework of the ERC funded BodyCapital project and in a joint venture with the Science Museum London intends to locate medical television more precisely – it intends to engage (medical) TV history with recent questions concerning the relevance of space within and beyond national borders.

Publishing the sciences: an inventory
La publication scientifique se transforme : open access, déclin du papier… Les coûts élevés des abonnements et des participations aux frais de publication incitent à rechercher des alternatives aux éditeurs traditionnels. Toutefois, avant de proposer des solutions, il faut prendre conscience de l'immense diversité des modes de publication, y compris dans leurs aspects les plus concrets (comment se passe la sélection des articles, quelles procédures sont assurées par des personnels rémunérés par l'éditeur, qui effectue la mise en page, etc.). Le but de ce colloque est de permettre à tous de prendre conscience de cette diversité.

Émulations journal - exceptional issue Varia section (end 2020)
Cette année la revue souhaite initier un numéro Varia afin de recevoir et se laisser surprendre par des contributions spontanées et inédites, sans qu’elles n’aient à se conformer à une ligne thématique prédéfinie. Ce numéro remplacera l’un des quatre numéros thématiques et sera publié en version papier et sur le site de la revue. La revue entend accueillir et publier des textes envisageant – sous plusieurs angles (principalement la sociologie, l’anthropologie, la science politique et l’histoire) et au carrefour des générations – une diversité d’enjeux sociaux, souvent non dénués d’une teneur politique, pour les penser au présent, dans leur actualité et, le cas échéant, dans leur historicité. C’est en cela qu’Émulations revendique le fait d’être une revue de sciences sociales résolument contemporaine, une revue de sciences sociales « en société ».

The televisual spaces of medicine and health in the 20th Century
Medical television programmes, across their history, have had specific relationships to places and spaces. On the one level, they have represented medical and health places: consulting rooms, hospitals, the home, community spaces, public health infrastructures and the rest. As television-producers have represented these places, there has been an interaction with the developing capabilities of television technologies and grammars. Moreover, producers have borrowed their imaginaries of medical and health places from other media (film, photographs, museum displays etc.) and integrated, adjusted and reformulated them into their work.

Pour la huitième édition du colloque international du groupe de recherche « Mobile et Création », dans un contexte environnemental sinistré et de mobilisations dans lesquelles les smartphones jouent un rôle crucial pour témoigner visuellement et relayer l’information, nous avons pour visée de mettre en avant la nature matérielle de la culture mobile. En s’attachant à la dimension matérielle de la culture mobile, il s’agit d’enrichir l’approche communicationnelle des usages et des contenus, en s’intéressant aux aspects géo-physiques des terminaux qui le rendent possible. Ce colloque a pour ambition de contribuer à développer une « écologie mobile » inspirée en partie de l’« écologie de l’attention », comme le propose Yves Citton. Une « écologie mobile » qui ne se contente pas d’accabler « l’addictif » comme le discours médiatique nous y a habitué, mais qui s’attaque également au problème de l’extractif.

Big Data - truths and fictions
La puissance de calcul des ordinateurs, le progrès des algorithmes, les travaux en machine learning et en intelligence artificielle (IA) ouvrent de vastes possibilités devant les chercheurs en sciences humaines et sociales. Tout d’abord, la possibilité de mettre en question de telles entreprises : en quoi élargissent-elles le champ de notre compréhension ? Qu’est-ce qu’elles apportent à nos principes méthodologiques ? Quels types de vérités échappaient à notre sagacité, que les nouveaux outils d’étude nous permettent de saisir ? Et la suprême provocation - l’écriture des textes, la composition des tableaux et des mélodies – mène-t-elle à un remplacement de l’artiste par la machine, ou bien c’est l’équipe des programmeurs, artistes et critiques qui vient de produire simplement un nouveau média numérique, l’art de la « machine intelligente » ?

Tele(visualising) health: TV, public health, its enthusiasts and its publics
Televisions began to appear in the homes of large numbers of the public in Europe and North America after World War II. This coincided with a period in which ideas about the public’s health, the problems that it faced and the solutions that could be offered, were changing. The threat posed by infectious diseases was receding, to be replaced by chronic conditions linked to lifestyle and individual behaviour. Public health professionals were enthusiastic about how this new technology. TV offered a way to reach large numbers of people with public health messages; it symbolised the post war optimism about new directions in public health. But it could also act as a contributory factor to those new public health problems.

The Audiovisuals and internet archives: Histories of healthy bodies in the 21st century spring school invites young researchers to engage in four days of intensive discussion and hands-on activities on the relation between the history of the healthy body, body politics, and the Internet at the turn of the twenty-first century (roughly 1990s-2010). The spring school will take a transnational perspective and focus on developments in Germany, France and Great Britain. In building the historical foundation of the Internet era in the BodyCapital perspective, we will encounter new modes of representations and practices of the body that the Internet favored: webcam uses, first artist creations, reuse of traditional contents (photographs and films), amongst others.

The conference aims to bring together scholars from different fields (such as, but not limited to, history, history of science, history of medicine, communication, media and film studies, television studies) working on the history of television in Great Britain, France and Germany (West and East) (the focus of the ERC BodyCapital project), but also other European countries, North and South America, Russia, Asia or other countries and areas. Papers might focus on one national, regional or even local framework. Considering the history of health-related (audio-) visuals as a history of transfer, as entangled history or with a comparative perspective are welcome. The organizers welcome contributions with a strong historical impetus from all social and cultural sciences.

As our visible and invisible social reality is getting increasingly digitalized, the question of the ethical, moral and political consequences of digitalization is getting ever more pressing. All technologies mark their environment, but digital technologies do so much more intimately than any previous technologies since they promise to think in our place. But how do they really think? What happens when they are entrusted with moral decisions? Is a moral machine possible? Who is responsible of the social and political environments and situations digitalization creates? Should they be politically controlled and how? The conference Moral machines calls together scholars in philosophy, humanities, literature and art in order to discuss these pressing issues.

Excess? Images of body, health, morality and emotions across the media
A central goal of the workshop is to open up an international exchange and to connect perspectives from the history of science, the history of emotions, the history of the body and media history in order to shed new light on a history of health as a cultural history. The event is part of the research project “The Healthy Self as Body Capital: Individuals, Market-Based Societies, and Body Politics in Visual Twentieth Century Europe” funded by the European Research Council under the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Advanced Grant agreement No 694817) led by Christian Bonah (University of Strasbourg) and Anja Laukötter (Max Planck Institute for Human Development, Berlin).

In(ter)disciplinarities through the optic of the digital humanities
The digital humanities, an editorial issue?
Dans le paysage scientifique qui est le nôtre, la cartographie disciplinaire est à la fois le préalable et l’obstacle aux avancées des connaissances. La fragmentation disciplinaire laisse toutefois la place à l’émergence de champs de recherche, apparaissant comme celle d’espaces de dialogues entre les disciplines. Un autre espace participe aujourd’hui au discours sur le brouillage des frontières disciplinaires (Guichard 2014) : les humanités numériques résumant la double tension au cœur des pratiques et des politiques scientifiques actuelles, entre héritage et anticipation d’un part, entre disciplines et domaines de recherche de l’autre. Faut-il alors interroger les disciplines ou investir au sein des humanités numériques les objets ou sujets même d’études pluridisciplinaires ? Les humanités numériques sont-elles un outil critique (Bénel 2014) ou une remise en cause des ancrages disciplinaires ? etc.
