Ethnology, prehistory and politics from the late 19th century to the interwar period
Ce projet de colloque s’inscrit dans le cadre du programme ANR/DFG ANTHROPOS 2 (2018-2020), Une histoire croisée de l’ethnologie et de la préhistoire en Allemagne et en France jusqu’aux années 1960 porté par l’Institut Frobenius et Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle. Il a pour objectif d’étudier les outils conceptuels forgés par la préhistoire et l’ethnologie, en particulier dans le cadre du tournant organiciste depuis le début du XIXe siècle et de l’émergence de la déclinaison de l’idée d’aires culturelles, de montrer les transferts théoriques s’opérant entre ces deux disciplines, tout en analysant leurs origines et implications politiques dans leurs contextes nationaux.

The televisual spaces of medicine and health in the 20th Century
Medical television programmes, across their history, have had specific relationships to places and spaces. On the one level, they have represented medical and health places: consulting rooms, hospitals, the home, community spaces, public health infrastructures and the rest. As television-producers have represented these places, there has been an interaction with the developing capabilities of television technologies and grammars. Moreover, producers have borrowed their imaginaries of medical and health places from other media (film, photographs, museum displays etc.) and integrated, adjusted and reformulated them into their work.

Enhancing human in Europe: dream and nightmare of the interwar period
Number of historians and philosophers consider in general that transhumanism and its aim at enhancing the human through applied science and technology have their roots in the inter-war period: Julian Huxley, Jean Coutrot, John B.S. Haldane or John D. Bernal are indeed massively considered as the precursors of such ideas. But are they the sole references to mention when considering the inter-war origins of transhumanism, or are they just the tip of the iceberg of a broader current of thought emerging at that time? Such question immediately raises another one, which requires clarification : can current transhumanism(s) really be linked to the ideas emerging in the inter-war period ? The aim of the workshop will be first to check whether and how the idea of an enhanced human through technology intervention may have circulated in Europe during that time. Secondly, space will be given to look for pertinent criteria for the identification of a « transhumanism » of the inter-war period, by evaluating the nature of the indices which may be studied: mobilizing ideas, currents of thoughts, schools of thoughts, sociotechnical imaginaries, etc. Within these perspectives, the workshop will make possible comparisons between the different European contexts (England, France, Italy, Germany, Russia, etc.), and the several papers will help us to better understand the circulation of ideas, networks and human exchanges which contributed to forge the cradle of transhumanist ideas. Communications will be in French or in English.

There is more to space than rocket science. Historians, diplomats, economists, law students, political scientists and sociologists have all contributed to our understanding of the space age and its impact on our societies over the past decades. Sixty years on from the placing of the first human-made object in orbit around Earth, space is now an integral part of our daily lives. Space science and technology are projects for the whole of humankind, reaching not only outside Earth’s atmosphere, but also beyond our Solar System. While the technological and scientific challenges of working, living and travelling in space motivate students to pursue such studies, the impact of space activities on our lives on Earth, on relations between nations and organisations, and our collective recent history, provides fertile ground for students and scholars in the humanities to take up space-related subjects.

Time - a contemporary history of a political and scientific issue
Histoire contemporaine d’un enjeu politique et scientifique
Ce colloque a pour objectif de rassembler des chercheurs abordant dans leurs travaux historiques la question de l’action sur les temporalités, lorsque le temps est une catégorie explicitement utilisée (long-terme, simultanéité, attente, élaboration de séquences temporelles). Il entend dépasser l’étude du temps et des temporalités comme simple cadre ou arrière-plan de l’évolution historique des sociétés, pour encourager une historicisation du temps comme catégorie d’action à l’époque contemporaine.

Under German Occupation: Gender Politics and Racism during World War II - Poland, France, Italy
European Summer School Ravensbrück 2009
Soixante-dix ans après le déclenchement de la guerre et l’agression de la Pologne, la cinquième « Université d’été européenne de Ravensbrück » se consacre à l’occupation allemande en Europe. Au vu de la Pologne, de la France et de l’Italie, il s’agit d’établir les différences et les points communs dans la politique de conquête de l’Allemagne, ainsi que dans la vie quotidienne sous l’occupation, pendant la seconde guerre mondiale. Conférences et groupes de travail viseront à identifier les différentes formes prises par la politique d’occupation allemande et la façon dont y réagirent les sociétés occupées. Deux aspects au cœur du débat: les fonctions et les effets de la politique de ségrégation raciste et l’importance de la catégorie « appartenance sexuelle ». -

Le phénomène colonial, c'est l'hypothèse initiale de cette journée d'étude, est un composant capital de l’univers intellectuel, scientifique et culturel européen à l'époque contemporaine. Interrogeant particulièrement mais non exclusivement le début du XXe siècle, nous proposons de faire place à la fois aux dernières recherches d’histoire intellectuelle sur la question et de traquer les ressorts et motivations de quelques-uns des acteurs très divers de la colonisation (colons ou militaires, fonctionnaires, religieux, mais aussi par exemple visiteurs de l’exposition coloniale). -
