  1914-1918. The war in maps

  The 1rst World War dramatically affected societies and territories, as well as personal lives and all forms of culture, in Europe and elsewhere in the world. The 1914-1918 conflict had in all respects a foundational nature. On the occasion of the 1rst World War commemorations, and in connection with the exhibition, "Summer of '14: The Last Days of the Old World", which will be held at the French National Library from March 25 to August 3, the French Committee of Cartography organizes a conference specifically dedicated to the role of cartography in the war, according to three main issues : the role of maps during the preparation of the war, the use of maps on the theatre of military operations, the importance of the map in a civil society during the war.

  La preuve par l'image

  Usages rhétoriques et argumentatifs de l'image en science et en droit

  Le raisonnement scientifique et l’argumentation juridique utilisent de nombreuses images qui interviennent au sein de processus argumentatifs et peuvent en venir à servir de preuve : tableaux, schèmes, graphes, diagrammes, dessins, croquis de reconstitution des faits, photographies. Mais comment se sert-on de ces images à des fins probatoires ? Plus précisément, comment une image est-elle fabriquée, transformée, utilisée et interprétée pour devenir un élément de preuve et emporter l’adhésion, qu’il s’agisse d’un raisonnement scientifique ou d’une argumentation juridique ? Et quelles sont, dans les deux cas, les analogies et les différences ? Telles sont les questions auxquelles nous espérons trouver une – ou des – réponse(s) lors de ces journées.
