  Water Management in the Mediterranean during the 1st Millennium BC

  IIIe symposium international HYDRΩMED

  The aim of the meeting is to compare the different modes of adaptation of the Ancient Mediterranean populations to the environmental resources, especially their hydric resources. In a climate marked by unequal distribution of water, the ancient societies, whether Phoenician-Punic, Greek or Etruscan, responded in different ways to the various situations, let alone the hydric crises which may have affected them. The meeting will associate systemic theoretical reflections as well as case studies on ancient sites, to outline the mutations and the permanencies, the possible technological transfers from one society to another. Here, as in other fields of human activity, we shall query the existence of an ancient Mediterranean koine around the knowledge and the technical practices, around the cultural and cultural traditions. The chronology considered runs from the 8^th to the 1^st century BC, i.e. before the diffusion of the Roman models and techniques.

  3rd international EMA symposium

  Du 20 au 22 janvier 2011, le Centre Camille Jullian (UMR 6573, CNRS et Aix-Marseille université) organise à la MMSH d’Aix-en-Provence un colloque international dans le cadre du programme « L’enfant et la mort dans l’Antiquité, des pratiques funéraires à l’identité sociale » (EMA), financé par l’ANR. Ce programme bénéficie de la collaboration de deux autres partenaires, l’UMR Archéologie et sciences de l’Antiquité (ArScAn, UMR 7041) à l’université de Paris Ouest-Nanterre-La Défense et le Centre d’études alexandrines (USR 3134).
