La question environnementale dans les zones périphériques du monde sinisé permettra d’aborder celle des frontières politiques et du rôle de l’environnement dans leur (re)définition, mais aussi la question des politiques écologiques qui ont conduit au déplacement de millions d’individus, et encore celle de la réinterprétation des relations entre humains et non-humains (animaux, plantes, esprits). Dans le domaine des lettres et des arts, quelles représentations rendent compte de l’impact de l’environnement sur la société chinoise et en retour de l’action de l’homme sur l’environnement, et quelles peuvent être leurs significations respectives ?

Les catégories de races, genres mais aussi tribus ou castes, jouent en effet un rôle majeur dans la construction de rapports de domination dans les empires.

La Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme et l’Institut Français d’Etudes sur l’Asie Centrale (IFEAC) proposent des aides à la mobilité pour des séjours en France de trois mois aux chercheurs postdoctorants d’Asie Centrale ayant soutenu leur thèse à partir de 2010. Cette aide à la mobilité est destinée à réaliser des travaux de recherche en France : enquêtes de terrain, travail en bibliothèques et archives. Cet appel s’inscrit dans le cadre du Programme Atlas de mobilité postdoctorale de courte durée lancé par la FMSH et ses partenaires.

Les organisateurs de cette conférence invitent la communauté scientifique à présenter des travaux de recherche et à débattre sur le rôle de la science, de la technologie et du patrimoine dans le monde maritime dans des contextes de « déglobalisation » / globalisation du XXe siècle. Il s’agira de comprendre la fonction des principaux espaces et des acteurs, et d’analyser les politiques publiques nationales et internationales à différentes échelles (du local à l’international), dans un contexte de guerres, de crises, de croissance économique et de colonisation/décolonisation.

In the past 20 years, the Research Center on Shanghai History (ECNU) and the Lyon Institute of East Asian Studies (IAO) have established close cooperative relations : joint projects, joint publications, joints conferences, as well as the co-training of graduate students have become significant and regular markers of increasingly close relationships. On this basis we hope to further co-promote Shanghai and Tianjin as centers of new urban history and social order. This project will avail new archival materials (municipalities archives), memoirs of policemen, photography, illustrated journals, correspondances, police reports etc…

Ce colloque international se penchera sur l’assimilation en Europe de connaissances relatives aux cultures chrétiennes-orientales, à partir surtout du dernier tiers du XIXe siècle, et sur le rôle que les missions ont joué dans ce processus. Ces connaissances nouvelles sont fondées en grande partie sur les travaux menés sur le terrain, au Moyen-Orient, en particulier sur les manuscrits conservés dans les monastères et les patriarcats, et plus généralement sur le patrimoine littéraire, linguistique, archéologique, cartographique et musicologique, des communautés chrétiennes installées.

While historians should take into account the movements in space that constantly transform sciences, they should not lose sight of the specific locations dedicated to the daily work of scientists. In scientific facilities (museums, laboratories, hospitals, etc.), modern scientists use their research instruments, meet with members of their networks, teach, and interact with various actors from outside of their scientific community. Participants in this symposium will seek how to write the history of this dynamic between circulation and institutions of science.

Scales of the Alimentation: an Asian Perspective
The international conference “Scales of the Alimentation: an Asian Perspective” aims at bringing together the French and international scholars of Asia in order to promote a global approach to Asia and to bring together different research institutions based in Europe, therefore to develop the exchanges between different international scholars of Asian societies and experts related to the themes of the food. Our objective is to deliver in-depth analysis and innovative methods arising from research in social and human sciences. We aim to better understand economic, political, institutional, cultural, technological and organizational dynamics of past and present dietary practices in Asia. In particular, we will focus on how the state of food practices and their knowledge is interwoven with other social and technological developments, that are the legacies of expanding and shrinking empires and the mass industrialization.

Modernizers: Changing science and society in the Middle East and North Africa (1870s-1930s)
Re-constructing a local genealogy of the scientific modernization in North Africa and the Middle East is still a pending task. Research on modern Arab-Islamic scientists, physicians and engineers will help expand the collective memory of modernization in those countries by adding new, often badly-known or forgotten actors to its ranks. Biographies will also help illuminate the intrinsic connection existing between science and society, showing how science has always been a necessary element in plans for national independence, social change and democratic rule. This conference will focus on the biographies of some late 19th-early 20th century scientists from Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria

Engaging Society in Innovation and Creativity
Perspectives from Social Sciences and Humanities
The trend of change from science and technology policy to science, technology and innovation (STI) policy becomes remarkable in Japan but also in Europe. Policymakers intend to break down the sense of economic and social stagnation by creating innovation driven by science and technology. In order to solve complex social issues, innovation is definitely essential. However, it is also obvious that creating “real” innovation needs some other elements than just the development of hard science and technology. Innovation needs integration of knowledge beyond disciplines. Recently the role of social science and humanities (SSH) in the innovation process is being highlighted and science, technology and innovation policy of many countries now expects SSH to play important role in conceiving, realizing and adjusting the policy.

Les 26 et 27 mai à Bordeaux se dérouleront les premières rencontres nationales des jeunes chercheur.e.s en études asiatiques. Ces rencontres ont pour but de croiser les travaux de doctorants, jeunes docteurs et post-doctorants, issus des différentes branches des sciences humaines et sociales, dont les terrains de recherche se situent dans les différents pays ou aires culturelles de l’Asie orientale, centrale, méridionale et insulaire. Elles sont organisées avec le soutien du GIS Asie et du département d’anthropologie de l’université de Bordeaux.

Quelles sont les conditions d'écriture d'une histoire globale localisée dans la densité des terrains et des tissus sociaux? Cet atelier doctoral entend aborder les enjeux de la réception d'un courant historiographique venu du monde anglo-saxon par les historiographies européennes au cours des vingt dernières années. Grâce à l'éclairage d'historiens spécialistes de la Méditerranée, de l'Afrique, de l'Amérique et de l'Asie, il s'agit de donner aux participants les clés pour comprendre les débats actuels et des pistes pour renouveler ces approches.
