Urgent issue of The Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge
This special issue, Tilting, seeks to take up themes that have animated the Blackwood’s program and mandate throughout the last several years: questions of connectivity, the challenges of public and private space, community and/in isolation; imperatives to re-structure modes and methodologies of care, including revaluing care work, confronting collective care responsibilities within colonial and capitalist structures, and engaging with the infrastructures, aesthetics, contestations, and radical possibilities of mutual aid; responses to the precarization of art, labour, and life; interest in what modes of knowledge production, circulation, and re-distribution are vital to us now, and how these networks might take new form. These urgencies continue to drive Blackwood programming (and this forthcoming publication), supporting and activating artists, curators, and writers who incite us to be responsive, critical, and answerable.

Arts, cultures et activismes LGBTI et queer
Quelques années après la loi française du « mariage pour tous », les associations LGBTQI sont animées par de nouvelles luttes, autour de la procréation médicalement assistée (PMA) ou de la conservation de leurs archives. En s’appuyant sur ces dynamiques actuelles ou passées, ce colloque souhaite interroger les liens entre arts, cultures et activismes LGBTQI et ouvrir pour ce faire un espace d’échanges, de réflexions et de dialogues tant aux universitaires qu’aux acteur-rice-s de terrain.

ReFocus: The Films of Rachid Bouchareb
Rachid Bouchareb was born in Paris in 1953 to Algerian parents and became one of France’s first French filmmakers of North African descent. While his career now spans over thirty years and his diverse films have garnered both mainstream and critical success, including three Oscar nominations, there exists no book-length study (in French or English) on Bouchareb’s body of work. The director’s films are remarkably varied in their themes, formal elements, and narrative settings, from Senegal, England, Vietnam, and Algeria, to France, Belgium, Turkey, and the United States.

Repetition/s: Performance and Philosophy in Ljubljana
Contemporary developments in the increasingly intertwined fields of philosophy and performance call for a renewed inquiry into the question of repetition. With its unique critique of ideology arising from a synthesis of German Idealism and Lacanian psychoanalysis, the Ljubljana School (Dolar, Zupančič, Žižek et al.) continues to furnish important theorisations of repetition and performance as they pertain to subjectivity and the political. One of the primary aims of “Repetition/s” will be to investigate and develop the usefulness of the Ljubljana School’s theorisations for the emerging field of Performance Philosophy.

Xe colloque annuel international de la Société d'activités et de recherches sur le monde indien (SARI) 2015
In the postcolonial theoretical framework, the study of heritage and ruptures is a rather familiar paradigm. But it is not a depleted paradigm. Given the millennial history of the Indian subcontinent and the plurality of its culture, the way its languages, literatures and arts appropriate the past, grasp the present and envisage the future remains a relevant object for inquiry. From the crossroads of diachronicity and synchronicity, tradition and modernity, singularity and solidarity, here and elsewhere, repetition and reinvention, the 10th annual SARI conference to be held on the 28th and 29th May 2015 at the Université Paris Ouest Nanterre la Défense and on the 30th May 2015 at the université Paris 13, Sorbonne Paris Cité, will be devoted to the exploration of this topic from an inter and pluridisciplinary perspective.

L’équipe de recherche en cinéma CES (« Cinéma esthétique sémiologie »), dans le cadre de son plan de recherche sur la représentation au cinéma, propose les 11 et 12 avril 2014 un colloque autour de la question des territorialités et des transgressions, ouvert aux spécialistes des études filmiques tout comme aux autres domaines, permettant ainsi de dresser un pont pluridisciplinaire entre le cinéma et les autres formes artistiques, culturelles et sociétales.

Sixième congrès méditerranéen d’esthétique
Faits et valeurs en esthétique : approches et enjeux actuels
Dans un texte célèbre intitulé Fait/valeur : la fin d’un dogme (2002), Hilary Putnam argumente de manière convaincante contre cette dichotomie classique des plus néfastes pour la réflexion philosophique. L'analyse de Putnam porte essentiellement sur la théorie et la pratique de la connaissance, mais on peut légitimement l’étendre à d’autres champs, à commencer par celui de l’esthétique, lequel se confronte tôt ou tard à cette question, que l’on défende ou rejette la dichotomie. La maintenir ou la refuser suppose des raisons, mais qui restent le plus souvent implicites, a fortiori en esthétique.
