Beyond Borders: Mapping Sexualities and the Sexualisation of Spaces
This international conference will examine the relationship between the notions of boundaries and sexuality from an interdisciplinary, transnational and transcultural perspective. In particular, it aims to map the ways in which space determines sexualities and sexual practices, and to understand, in turn, how sex structures and limits the spaces in which we live, and how we relate to them.

Dans de nombreuses métropoles d’Afrique, les transports collectifs institutionnels normatifs font défaut. Lorsqu’ils existent, ces derniers ne parviennent pas à répondre aux besoins escomptés des populations urbaines et rurales pour leurs déplacements quotidiens. Ainsi, l’absence, l’insuffisance ou l’inefficacité des transports en commun adaptés à la demande des populations sont compensées par des solutions non institutionnelles : ce sont les transports dits « artisanaux » qui comblent ces déficits et constituent l’unique offre de transport en commun accessible.

8th thematics folder of the “Cahiers de la recherche architecturale, urbaine et paysagère” (Craup)
This call for papers concerns social housing, a rapidly changing and significant field for those who practice architecture, landscape architecture and spatial planning. Present throughout Europe at various levels, from 4% in Romania to 32% in the Netherlands, social housing heavily contributes to urban renewal. Through its material and non-material renovation, as well as the evolution of meanings, stakeholders and populations, new dynamics emerge that influence architectural, urban and landscape forms, modes of living and careers in spatial production. This volume seeks to identify and decode these dynamics through three axes: 1) Towards new models; 2) Between heritage, urban renewal and sustainable development; 3) Spatial forms and social arrangements.

Des chercheurs du monde entier, et notamment originaires de la région latino-américaine, viennent présenter leurs travaux, réalisés depuis une perspective comparative et située, et sélectionnés dans le souci d'une approche pluridisciplinaire. Les thèmes qui ont animé leurs recherches s'articulent autour de la complexité et des conflits de(s) politique(s) de l'habitat, des manières de repenser l'informalité et la précarité urbaine, et de la politisation des rapports des habitants à la nature en contexte urbain. Nous aurons aussi la chance de recevoir des experts sur les questions urbaines et plus largement socio-spatiales, qui animeront les discussions à l'issue de chaque session de présentations.

The notion of “urban fears” is not new but can be reexamined, in a newly initiated approach of an “emotional” approach to the city, a study of the emotions of inhabitants. “Urban fears” will be defined as collective feelings of anxiety, in urban populations, about events occurring or likely to occur in the city where they live, and for a sufficient period of time not to be considered anecdotal. “Dangerous classes” of the lowlands, riots, natural, climatic, environmental, epidemic, food disasters, irrational fears, rumours and urban legends will be the focus of our attention.

Quinze ans après le début des premières opérations nous vous proposons d’appréhender de manière réflexive les changements socio-spatiaux que la rénovation urbaine a impulsés dans les quartiers, entre discours et représentations, intentions et réalisations. Par conséquent, ce numéro de la revue Idées et Territoires proposera, via vos contributions, de participer à comprendre comment s’illustrent les changements induits et produits par cette politique urbaine de grande envergure sur les quartiers, l’habitat, les lieux et les habitants. Les articles portant sur des terrains d’étude en Bretagne-Pays de la Loire sont particulièrement souhaités mais non exclusivement.

Building poverty alleviation policies based on fieldwork
From the analysis of public policies and their implementation to the identification of economic and social integration processes
Organisé dans le cadre du programme de recherche MARG-IN, qui est financé par l’Agence nationale de la recherche, ce colloque entend contribuer aux débats en cours sur la lutte contre la pauvreté en identifiant, à partir de l’examen des jeux d’acteurs liés à la mise en œuvre des politiques, les processus d’insertion sociale et économique qui pourraient servir de base à la construction de nouveaux dispositifs en phase avec la demande sociale et avec les réalités locales. Pendant ces deux jours, les chercheurs seront invités à échanger leurs points de vue avec les acteurs institutionnels, les acteurs de terrain (professionnels de l’action sociale et militants associatifs) et les personnes en situation précaire. Ces échanges serviront de base à l’écriture d’un texte commun jetant les bases d’une approche de la lutte contre la pauvreté « par le bas », et à large diffusion.

Food and territorial politics. Policies for food and territories
Food is, with a few exceptions, a relatively understudied object through the lens of local policymaking and urban planning. On the one hand, the sociology of food focuses on the relations that individuals and social groups develop to food deeds, as well as the social relations that food deeds generate between them. On the other hand, studies of food policies in political sociology primarily deal with the agrofood industry and the social movements around alternative modes of production. By contrast, few studies take as a research object food through the lens of agenda-setting in local public policy and its potential effects on territories.

Le Mozambique est encore très largement géré par l'administration de l'État central: il n'y a que 58 municipalités, toutes urbaines. La questionne est donc très politique, puisque toute avancée de la municipalisation permet à l'opposition d'acquérir plus de poids, même si le parti au pouvoir garde le contrôle sur la majorité d'entre elles. Ce colloque international aura lieu une dizaine de jours après la tenue des élections municipales d'octobre 2018, qui seront un test grandeur nature pour les élections présidentielles et législatives de l'année suivante...

Urbicide - urban destruction and renaissance (16th-21st centuries)
Ce colloque se propose d'aborder les différents aspects des destructions urbaines : guerres, catastrophes naturelles ou industrielles, accidents majeurs, « villes-fantômes », opérations radicales de remodelage urbain, etc. Outre sa large envergure chronologique, il couvre aussi une vaste aire géographique, les études portant sur des situations extra-européennes étant particulièrement attendues. On traitera aussi bien des causes et modalités de l'urbicide, que des réactions des populations urbaines confrontées à ce phénomène ou encore de l'« après » urbicide.

New Spaces of Collection: Crossing Perspectives on Today ‘Gatherers’

The purpose of this issue of EchoGéo is to initiate an innovative approach toward contemporary practices of collection and their socio-spatial effects. The term ‘collection’ covers a wide panel of processes used for the gathering of valuable materials picked up from localised environments and feeding supra-local trading and production channels. The proposal is to compare two kinds of collection spaces and practices, which seem to be opposed, namely those of medicinal plants’ gatherers and those of urban waste pickers multi-scaled. Through such analogy, whose today’s dynamics are bringing new heuristic interest, the objective is to consider conceptual issues such as marginality, informality, multi-scaled organisation of economic channels, access to resources and value regimes

The experience of Valence (Spain) and other South-European cities
L'axe 4 du programme de recherche Métropoles crises et mutations étudie les effets socio-spatiaux de la crise et le déploiement d'un urbanisme de l'austérité dans les grandes villes espagnoles. L'objectif principal est d'analyser les transformations socio-spatiales, les nouvelles relations de pouvoir aux échelles locales et les reconfigurations en matière de politique publique à partir de trois contextes, Madrid, Valencia et Barcelone. En centrant les recherches sur les agendas urbains dans les grands domaines de la planification et de l'action publique (logement, mobilité, ...) mais aussi dans les stratégies mises en oeuvre (innovation sociale, action à partir des marges spatiales et sociales), les travaux mettent en lumière, de manière monographique ou comparative, les enjeux en termes de justice spatiale.

It is not possible to ignore the fact that cities are not only moving, vibrant and flourishing spaces, promising hope for better quality of life, but also accumulate and reflect significant problems. We need to recognise the complexity of economic, political, social, cultural and environmental mechanisms, which strengthen existing inequalities and add a great deal of uncertainty to life in cities and urban spaces of the globalised world. We want to gain a better understanding of the impact and consequences of inequality and uncertainty on the urban arena as much as the responses to current challenges in terms of both informal and institutional practices.

Geomedia is an emerging concept that has been deployed to capture a particular technological condition, associated with recent rapid developments in digital technology. As such, it signals to the dialectics of locative media and the mediations of localities. However, the concept of geomedia carries deeper/wider ontological and epistemological registers that transcend the simple twining of geography and media. In this wider sense, geomedia gestures to the expanding interdisciplinary terrain at the crossroads of media studies and geography, where various ontologies and epistemologies of space/time, flows/mobilities and mediation/ mediatization come together. The aim of this special issue is to explore the urban as a key terrain where these ontologies and epistemologies are articulated.

Urban Kinships. Everyday Kinship and the making of the City
“Articulo”, Journal of Urban Research
Social sciences were long dominated by the notion that cities are places where kinship ties are weakened (Parsons 1955), but this view is widely challenged today. In addressing “urban kinships,” this Articulo special issue aims to surpass the “great divide” (Weber and Dufy 2007) that still separates the study of kinship (reserved for anthropologists and traditional societies) from the study of the city (the favored field site for sociologists and research on the family). At a time when cities are dissolving into “the urban” and blended families are re-defining kinship, this issue suggests studying the co-production of kinship and the city, through an approach focusing on everyday practices.

Social power as a power in space?
Le groupe « Justice, espace, inégalités, discrimination » du labex « Futurs urbains » organise une journée d’étude interdisciplinaire intitulée « Le pouvoir social comme pouvoir sur l'espace ? ». Elle a pour enjeu de présenter et discuter des travaux de recherches qui s’intéressent aux classes sociales dominantes et qui intègrent la dimension spatiale à leurs analyses. Il s’agit de réfléchir au rapport pratique et symbolique à la ville de ces groupes sociaux, au rôle de l’espace dans la reproduction de leur position sociale ou encore à leur action sur les dynamiques urbaines.
