Heritages values of 20th century architecture: what recognition?
Critical review and international forward-looking vision
The heritage values of 20th century architecture, whether they be cultural, social or technical, remain relatively complex to assess, and thus to share, due to lack of perspective and knowledge. The architectural and urban production of the second half of the 20th century was particularly prolific, sometimes remarkable, even exceptional. The energy, ecological transition, the changing habits and lifestyles are leading to the gradual transformation of this built heritage reaching to the end of its life cycle. Since the 1990-2000’s, a movement for heritage making has developed, which leads to many questions relating to possible and desirable developments of these architectural achievements. This issue of In Situ seeks to take a European or international critical perspective on the architecture of the 20th century and to highlight doctrines and positions adopted, practices and examples of schemes, policies or projects.

La foi dans les vertus et les bénéfices sociaux de la liberté d’expression et du free speech a été largement remise en cause et une critique du paradigme dominant de la manière de penser la liberté d’expression et la censure a vu le jour, dont on a pu regrouper les diverses manifestations sous le label de « New Censorship Theory ». C’est sur la question du « free speech » que porte plus précisément cet appel à propositions pour le n° 106 de la revue Communications.

Techno-Realities and Affective Creatures: the Love Simulation Devices
Modern-day embodiments of Baudelaire’s Artificial Paradises, the techno-realities are seen as a threat to human relationships in “real” life, in particular when they relate to love. Such human-shaped products however multiply: domotic spouse, tactile screen’s boyfriend, holographic companion, bride for Virtual Reality glasses, interactive downloadable partner, otomegames and bishōjogamescharacters… pending the development of Hololens friends. The explosion of these technologies (forecast to reach 181 billion euros in 2021 for VR only) generates anxiety and rejection. People engaged in Love Simulation Games have to face attacks: emotional relationships with non-existent beings are frowned upon. The tendency to get involved with a digital creature is being stigmatized, as opposed to founding a family (i.e. a reproductive unit). In spite of the stigma, a growing number of men and women, worldwide, are however using love devices: how can we explain that?

Marx, Semiotics and Political Praxis
This special issue of Open Cultural Studies will return to the work of Karl Marx to reflect on and engage with his coherent articulation of words and their use, of words and actions, and of the intellectual and the political. The coherence of his discourse and praxis offers tools to think through, if not seek to transform, the alienated semiotic landscape of our times as described by the Frankfurt school philosopheers, Jean Baudrillard, Frederic Jameson, Sloterdijk and Slavoj Žižek. To commemorate the 200th anniversary of Marx's birth, in this special issue we want to honour his 11th Thesis on Feuerbach: "philosophers have only interpreted the world, in various ways; the point, however, is to change it."

À l’heure de la globalisation des pratiques musiciennes et de la multiplication des échelles et réseaux de financement de la culture, ce colloque international se propose de faire retour sur l’histoire des politiques culturelles et des mobilisations de la musique dans les sociétés démocratiques, de l’apparition des premières pensées de la démocratisation jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Pourquoi et comment a-t-on cherché, depuis le XIXe siècle, à « porter la musique au peuple » ? Quelles significations et quelles formes prend cet enjeu dans le monde contemporain ?

Comment penser l’anthropocène ?
Anthropologues, philosophes et sociologues face au changement climatique.
En décembre 2015, la 21ème Conférence des parties sur le climat, communément appelée COP21, se tiendra au Bourget, près de Paris. Cette conférence suscite autant de craintes, que d’espoirs : beaucoup considèrent qu’elle représente la dernière chance d’arriver à un accord contraignant sur la réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre, afin d’éviter une hausse trop importante des températures, qui aurait des effets catastrophiques.
C’est dans la perspective d’une mobilisation de tous les efforts autour d’une solution positive, que nous appelons à un colloque international, réunissant philosophes, anthropologues et sociologues, qui se tiendra à Paris, au Collège de France, le 5 et 6 novembre 2015.

The making of cultural policies
Trans-Acting Matters: Areas and Eras of a (Post-)Ottoman Globalization
This workshop takes place in the framework of the research project “Trans-Acting Matters: Areas and Eras of a (Post-)Ottoman Globalization”. It aims to analyse the making of cultural policies and actions in Turkey and the post-ottoman spaces. We wish to question the ways in which the circulations participate in the construction of cultural policies today as well as to rethink the earlier cultural policies and actions from the late Ottoman Empire onwards. The workshop attempts to question the co-production of cultural policies, of their spaces and territories, as well as the plurality of the conceptions of culture carried by cultural policies. The workshop will focus on the phenomena of hybridity, of connections, and associations of various actors which co-produce original forms of cultural policies.

3rd international study day in design at the ACCRA laboratory of the Université de Strasbourg
Pour cette troisième journée d’études en design, nous souhaitons interroger le lien existant (ou non) entre le politique et le design. S’il est vrai que la pratique du design peut amener à des changements de paradigmes, il faut supposer qu’elle opère à l’encontre des préceptes établis, contre ce que Jacques Rancière appelle « le régime de la police ». De ce fait, que l’on pense aux formes traditionnelles du politique conçues par Paul Ardenne comme une trinité – la tutelle, la collusion et l’opposition – ou à quelque autre forme nouvelle de politisation de la culture que le même auteur devine depuis l’émergence de l’art contextuel, la création artistique semble être un moteur de mutation politique. Qu’en est-il alors des arts appliqués ? Pouvons-nous nous appuyer sur l’historicité du champ de l’art pour envisager la dimension politique du design ? Ou bien à l’inverse celui-ci agit-il indépendamment des phénomènes artistiques et développe-t-il sa propre relation avec le politique ?

Qu’il s’agisse d’électeurs ou d’usagers de dispositifs médiatiques, artistiques, institutionnels ou techniques, les publics populaires sont au cœur des débats sur les évolutions contemporaines de nos sociétés.
