Death and Migration: Perspectives from the Post-Soviet Space
This dossier of Revue européenne des migrations internationales proposes to take up a research theme that has undergone a strong renewal of interest in recent years, that of death and migration. This dossier aims to shed light on an area which has been little studied from this angle (the post-Soviet space) and to develop an approach which focuses on the management of bodies 'dead in the distance' (deaths in migration, deaths due to migration). This dossier also focuses on the effects of a certain proximity to death on the practices of foresight and mutual aid (when they exist) in the migratory context, as well as their impacts on migration as a whole. Two thematic axes will guide the contributions: the first concerns the practical modalities of the management of dead bodies abroad; the second concerns mitigating and solidarity practices in relation to the proximity of death in migration.

Open Theology invites submissions for the topical issue “The Bible and Migration”, prepared in collaboration with the conference The Bible on the Move: Toward a Biblical Theology of Migration, held at Fuller Theological Seminary in January 2020. This special issue asks how cutting-edge biblical scholarship should inform conversation about and action relating to migration in the twenty-first century, bridging the gap between biblical studies, theology, and activism. Articles should examine how the biblical texts reflect diverse migrant experiences, as well as ways in which these texts reflect theologically on migration and appropriate responses to it among migrants and host communities. Articles may also critically interrogate the Bible’s use in arguments over migration and migrants’ reception by host communities.

IXe congrès de l’Association française de sociologie « Changer ? » – RTn°43 sociologie et religions
La sociologie des religions française s’est structurée dans les années 1960 autour de concepts – la sécularisation, la pluralisation religieuse, l’individualisation des pratiques et croyances – qui accordent une place centrale à la notion de changement, en y associant des connotations positives (la « modernité » religieuse) ou négatives (le registre de la perte) et analysée à différents échelles (individuelle, organisationnelle etc.). Tout en tenant compte des apports de ces paradigmes, l’objectif du réseau thématique sera de s’éloigner des approches théoriques qui seraient spécifiques aux religieux en s’interrogeant sur le travail de sélection et de catégorisation à l’œuvre : comment définir ce qui est « religieux » ? Comment appréhender objectivement ou subjectivement le changement ?

Depuis vingt-cinq ans, la question migratoire est prégnante dans le discours politique et médiatique, suscitant débat, interrogation, mais aussi travaux scientifiques. Si les chercheurs ont investi ce champ d’étude, l’analyse des interactions du phénomène avec le religieux est plus récente, mais souligne la place centrale qu’a pu occuper la religion dans les processus migratoires – aux origines de la migration, comme support de celle-ci, comme ressource à la fois spirituelle et sociale pour les déplacés –, et les transformations du religieux qu’ils induisent. La réflexion historique sur les articulations entre religion et migration dans le cadre transnational est à même de compléter ces travaux des sociologues, anthropologues, géographes et théologiens. Aussi, l’Association française d'histoire religieuse (AFHRC) a choisi d’y consacrer sa journée d’étude annuelle. On considèrera les grands mouvements de population à l’époque contemporaine (XIXe-XXe siècles), forcés ou volontaires, sans exclure l’exil ni les migrations plus ponctuelles.

Migration via the sea or desert: recourse to religious figures in the migratory dynamics of Africa
This conference intends broadly speaking, to open a scientific dialogue to discuss the place of the religious in the migratory dynamics. The conference anchoring point is the illegal migration from Africa towards Europe and Middle East. But proposals dealing with the link between religious and all other forms of human mobility within the African continental space or from it to other destinations could be examined according to their relevance. Four areas of reflection, non-exclusive, are suggested to shape the discussions: 1) Faith, beliefs and religious practices in the development / maturation of the migration project; 2) Socioeconomic uses and magico-religious experience on migration paths; 3) Religion and migratory networks; 4) Religious treatment of the migration issue.

Cet événement, conçu dans le cadre des journées des doctorants Campus Condorcet 2018-2019 et co-financé par le projet PSL IRIS Études Globales « Marché islamique mondial : Perspective asiatique sur la diversité du capitalisme » vise à aborder la question de l’économie alternative, thème qui traverse différentes aires géographiques et culturelles. Il s’agira d’explorer les nouvelles formes de solidarité émergeant dans le contexte actuel de recomposition politique et économique, à savoir : la globalisation et la montée du système néolibéral.Trois thématiques majeures seront abordées : la religiosité (notamment l’islam) ; les nouvelles solidarités rurales et les migrations.

Le 4e colloque étudiant de l’IPAC propose d’étudier le concept d’altérité et son rôle dans les interactions humaines propres au domaine du patrimoine culturel. Il vise à stimuler une réflexion sur la façon dont la diversité et la pluralité culturelles agissent en tant qu’agents patrimoniaux fédérateurs, d’intégration et de compréhension de « l’Autre » ou comment, au contraire, des ruptures, tensions ou désintégrations du vivre ensemble peuvent se produire. Bref, comment le patrimoine représente-t-il un pont culturel entre Nous et les Autres, ainsi qu’un instrument de division potentiel ? Quel rôle joue le patrimoine et quel levier représente-t-il dans un monde qui semble avoir perdu ses repères, ses racines et son identité ?

Believing in technology - mediatisation of the future and the future of mediatisation
Ce dossier se propose d’identifier, de mettre en exergue et d’interroger les caractéristiques et les enjeux de la médiatisation du futur de l’homme et de la société dans le contexte spécifique des croyances et dogmes de la foi en la technologie. Entendue comme une partie du processus de construction communicative de la réalité socio-culturelle actuelle d’un monde dans lequel la science conquise par l’intelligence artificielle est rattrapée par la religion, la médiatisation du futur, d’une part, agglutine les craintes d’une apocalypse où la prise technologique du contrôle sur la vie serait le sens de l’avenir de l’humanité, et, d’autre part, suscite l’espérance quasi évangélique d’une percolation salutaire de la technologie dans le corps humain et dans son environnement.

Assessing 180 Years of International Expansion
Following a pattern of itinerant preachers, inherited from the Second Great Awakening context from which their religion emerged, and from New Testament proselytes, Mormon missionaries began as early as June 1830 to go on missions. First, they traveled within the United States and Canada; then, looking beyond North America, they began to take their religion across the world starting with a mission to England as early as 1837. While the movement can do nothing about the fact that it originated in the United States, we hope the presentations in the conference will help determine on the one hand whether and to what extent a numerically “decentered” Mormonism also means a de-americanized Mormonism. On the other hand, we expect the communications to help come to an informed opinion on the place of other cultures in the movement, on how expansion contributes to interaction with local, state authorities and the extent of its localization.

Dans le cadre du projet « Islam subsaharien et comorien en France » financé par le Bureau central des cultes (DLPAJ) du ministère de l’Intérieur, en partenariat avec le ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche, nous organisons un colloque qui réunira des chercheurs et doctorants spécialistes de la question, ainsi que des acteurs du champ (religieux, associatifs, politiques). Au terme du colloque, les communications scientifiques, en dialogue avec les tables rondes, viendront jeter un éclairage nouveau sur la diversité des musulmans d'origine subsaharienne et comorienne en France.

Displacements and spatial transformations of religion in the English-speaking world
The experience of migrating, moving away from familiar places—sometimes against one’s will—and relocating in foreign territories is deeply ingrained in the spiritual and historical legacy of monotheistic traditions. The Reformation, the colonial era and the contemporary globalized world have greatly amplified the phenomena of transplantation and mass migrations; in turn these uprootings have deeply transformed the religious geography of the English-speaking world. This two-day conference aims to explore the multiple dimensions of the spatial transformations of religion not only in the light of the experience of diasporas and other exiled or migrating religious minorities, but also from the point of view of merchants, travellers, missionaries, settlers, soldiers, etc.

Après la tenue de deux journées d’études sur « La diversité religieuse. Approche pluridisciplinaire » tenues à l’université du Havre en septembre 2013 et septembre 2014, la publication d’un ouvrage sur ce thème est retenue. À cette fin, nous sollicitons la contribution de nouveaux chercheurs sur le thème, avec un intérêt particulier pour des propositions en anthropologie, philosophie, littérature, gestion et économie.

European Muslim's Participation in (New) Media
The increasing growth of the Internet is reshaping Islamic communities worldwide. Non-conventional media and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter are becoming more popular among the Muslim youth as among all parts of the society. The new channels of information and news attract new Muslim publics in Europe. The profile of the people using these networks range from college students to Islamic intellectual authorities. Such an easy and speedy way of connecting to millions of people across the globe also attracts the attention of social movements, which utilize these networks to spread their message to a wider public. Many Muslim networks and social movements, political leaders, Islamic institutions and authorities use these new media spaces to address wider Muslim and also non-Muslim communities, it is not uncommon that they also address and reach certain so-called radical groups.

Ce séminaire est consacré à la question de la présence de l’islam et des musulmans en Europe occidentale durant la période contemporaine. Si les travaux sociologiques balisent le terrain des enquêtes et des analyses sur des situations et des phénomènes très actuels, peu de visibilité est donné à une approche plus historique ou socio-historique de cette thématique. La prochaine séance du séminaire CRH-EHESS « Histoire et historiographie de l'islam en Europe occidentale » portera sur le thème : « Écrire une histoire religieuse des migrations : les migrants de la Tariqa 'Alawiyya, de l'Afrique du Nord à l'Europe et de l'Europe à l'Afrique du Nord, dans les années 1920 ».
