  Amor mundi. The political use of thought

  Tribute to Étienne Tassin

  Le monde, selon Étienne Tassin (1955-2018), est le commun qui se tisse entre des acteurs et des actrices qui ne partagent aucune communauté préalable, mais qui fait naitre un réseau de relations accueillant la division et la conflictualité. Agir politiquement n’est pas se soucier de soi mais se soucier du monde, dans une perspective cosmo-politique, réactivée de nos jours comme « politique des étrangers non pas faite à leur intention mais en leur compagnie ». Corrélativement, « prendre soin du monde, Amor mundi », désigne aussi « la signification politique de l’activité de penser ». Qui était Étienne ? Que nous donnent à penser l’œuvre qu’il laisse mais aussi sa façon d’être au monde ? Venu-e-s pour une part d’Outre-mer, d’Outre-Atlantique et d’Afrique, ceux et celles qui lui rendront hommage tenteront d’en témoigner.

  Global Race (2019)

  The “Global Race” ANR project investigates the reconfigurations of the race concept since 1945 in Europe, North America and Latin America. It aims at examining various theories and practices regarding the use of racial and ethnic categories in the scientific, political, legal and statistical realms. Researchers working on these issues are invited to present their work during our monthly seminar.

  Philosophy and dance in Africa and among its diasporas today

  Corpus Africana festival

  From the 27^th of October until the 10^th of November 2018 the university consortium Erasmus Mundus Europhilosophie is organising, under the title “Corpus Africana; Current philosophies and Dances in Africa and its Diasporas”, an important international meeting, aiming to bring to the heart of arts and humanities university research in Europe the knowledge and the study of “Africana Philosophy”, of choreographic knowledge that is of African or contemporary African lineage in nature. The meeting will take place at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès as part of the research seminar “Thinking Decolonisation”, in collaboration with the James Carlès Centre of Choreography’s Festival of Dance and the Black Continents.

  Difference, diversity, diffraction: confronting hegemonies and dispossessions

  10th European Feminist Research Conference

  The overall theme of the conference is “Difference, Diversity, Diffraction: Confronting Hegemonies and Dispossessions”, which refers to a topic central to Gender Studies: the social construction of difference and inequality on the one hand, and the recognition of marginalised experiences and subject positions on the other. In the face of growing right-wing populist movements, anti-feminist and anti-queer backlash, forced migration, austerity and climate change, these concerns take on renewed relevance. The subtitle “Confronting Hegemonies and Dispossessions” is a call to reflect on, challenge and defy the hierarchies, subjugations and deprivations that are linked to structural differentiations and to find affirmative ways of dealing with difference , diversity and diffraction. The conference is committed to promoting a feminist anti-racist accessible space for all genders.

  A concept of Africa

  Nous voulons connaître le sens du mot « Afrique » et, pour cela, en élaborer le concept : rechercher s'il existe ou peut exister une idée qui correspondrait à l'Afrique et à son nom. Nous considérerons en priorité, pour y parvenir, deux moments de l'histoire africaine : l'invasion européenne, la traite et la colonisation, quand le nom « Afrique » est étendu, par les Européens, à l'ensemble du continent et de ses habitants ; les luttes d’indépendance quand, en dépit de l’infinité des différences qui parcourent le continent, la quasi-totalité des organisations indépendantistes reprennent à leur compte le mot d'ordre de l’Unité Africaine.

  Comment considérer les familles dans le cadre européen ? Quel lien établir entre cette première entité anthropologique, sociologique, juridique et historique, la famille, et cette autre entité institutionnelle, politique et historique, l'Union européenne ? Dans le prochain dossier thématique de Recherches Familiales, intitulé « Familles et Europe », les articles proposés pourront présenter quatre types de sujets.
