Fieldwork day for the wet zones in the Dombes region history group

Le Groupe d'histoire des zones humides (GHZH) a le plaisir de vous convier à une journée de terrain, le mercredi 31 août 2016, consacrée à la découverte de la Dombes. Cette manifestation, organisée en partenariat avec la fondation Pierre Vérots, traitera des enjeux de gestion, de valorisation et de patrimonialisation de la zone humide. Souhaitant croiser les regards des sciences humaines et sociales avec les réalités techniques, économiques, sociales et écologiques des territoires, cette journée sera animée par des conférences, des rencontres d'acteurs impliqués dans la gestion et la valorisation de la Dombes et des visites d'étangs.

Climate and Weather: Science as Public Culture

Scientific Communication and its History – III

This conference is the third in a series devoted to historical and contemporary perspectives on the communication of science and technology. Climate and weather provide a particularly rich and challenging case study to complete the conference series. As with other disciplines studied during the previous conferences, the climate sciences are characterised by complexity: in their professional networks; their conceptual models; and the logistics of their large-scale data and computing needs. Yet few modern scientific disciplines attract the same level of public engagement, in both everyday life and passionate debate on the future of the planet. Moreover, their status at the intersection of policy, scientific controversy and the public sphere is not a recent development: the same issues and fault lines ran through meteorology from the 18th-century onwards. Shifting interests within the history of science and the development of environmental history have greatly expanded the field in recent years. The conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on these historiographical developments via a specific focus on the communication of weather and climate from the 18th to the 21st centuries. The conference will address three themes in particular: Commodification of meteorological knowledge, Media, and Historicizing climate history.

Ways of traveling / ways of knowing the world, 16th - 20th century (2011-2012)

Séminaire organisé par Marie-Noëlle Bourguet et Isabelle Surun à l'université de Paris 7. Cette année, quelques séances seront communes avec le séminaire « L'épreuve des Indes. Les fabriques impériales de la modernité », organisé par Romain Bertrand et Stéphane Van Damme à Sciences po. Le séminaire est ouvert aux étudiants de master, aux doctorants, aux chercheurs intéressés. Il se tiendra cette année le lundi matin, à 10 heures (séances de 2 ou 3 h.). Sauf indication contraire, les séances ont lieu à l'Université Denis Diderot-Paris 7, UFR GHSS, Dalle des Olympiades, Tour Montréal, 59 rue Nationale, Paris 13e, salle 184.
