  Regulating bioeconomy

  (Re)Making and regulating life and livelihoods across borders: transnational bioeconomy, law, and governance

  Biotechnological industry, researchers, and governments have entered a new constellation, regime, and accelerated phase, called the Bioeconomy. This agenda - which exists in the form of policy, funding programs, white papers, etc. - reimagines how we live, how we live together with other kinds of life, and, directly, these other kinds of life at the molar and molecular level. In other words: All kinds of livelihoods in their social, economic, and ethical relations are put in motion. This agenda is, geopolitically, not restricted to Global North nor contained by any national or international jurisdiction and governance.

  A minimum European wage?

  La question du salaire minimum se situe au carrefour de préoccupations diverses : compétitivité, dumping social, précarité, inclusion sociale. Les institutions internationales et européennes ont récemment modifié leur appréhension du salaire minimum. La définition d’un salaire minimum est au cœur du socle européen des droits sociaux. Ainsi, même si la fixation d’un salaire minimum ne relève pas de la compétence de l’Union européenne, l’horizon d’un salaire minimum européen est maintenant à l’agenda européen. À cette actualité supranationale, s’ajoutent des actualités nationales. Certains États membres – en particulier l’Allemagne – se sont récemment dotés de dispositifs juridiques tendant à intégrer dans leur législation nationale un salaire minimum. Le salaire minimum apparaît ainsi comme l’une des voies de lutte contre le dumping social. Les recommandations adoptées dans le cadre du semestre européen, qui visent d’ores et déjà à influencer la politique salariale de certains États membres, rendent d’autant plus urgent le débat sur le salaire minimum.

  10th Annual World Customs Organization PICARD Conference

  The World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Azerbaijan Customs are pleased to announce the 10th annual WCO PICARD conference. The conference will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 8 to 10 September 2015. Papers should focus on Customs or, more globally, the regulation, dynamics, and practices of the international trade of goods. The WCO encourages attendance and paper submissions from anthropologists, economists, geographers, historians, lawyers, and political scientists. The WCO is particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches regarding contemporary systems of regulation and control at borders.
