  Arabian Humanities Thematic Issue No. 15 (Spring 2021)

  This issue of Arabian Humanities proposes to offer a multidisciplinary overview of the Sultanate of Oman contemporary period by bringing together old and recent works. It will focus as much on its history as on the major social and cultural changes that have taken place in its society. The aim is to explore the different aspects that can be observed today and which contribute to a better understanding of this country over time.

  Decapitalisations

  Contestations, exiles, transfers, bicephaly...capital cities

  The conference, organized by Centre d’histoire du XIXe siècle and Centre André Chastel, scheduled on June 16^th, 17^th and 18^th 2016 and will be devoted to examining the fate of those capitals that have been temporarily or permanently stripped of their status, alternative or provisional capitals and mobile forms of sovereignty, as well as the endurance of "capitalness", from a historical and history of art point of view. How does a city survive this political and administrative downgrading? What is the cultural impact of the loss of political "capitalness"? What role do historical capitals play in relation to capitals that boast their modernity? How are the transfers structured? How does the diplomatic community follow these changes? How does international recognition influence the persistency, or lack thereof, of "capitalness"?

  Call for articles for the Espaces et Sociétés journal

  Omniprésente dans les projets, plans et programmes d’aménagement portant sur des espaces construits, la patrimonialisation urbaine doit être interrogée. En tant que concept, d’abord, elle souffre d’ambiguïté, n’étant plus limitée à la préservation de traces matérielles du passé pour des raisons esthétiques ou culturelles. Elle tend maintenant à englober des réalisations récentes ou des lieux « ordinaires » avec les pratiques localisées qui y sont associées. Cette extension survient dans une conjoncture socio-historique où le rapport au temps, qu’il s’agisse du présent ou de l’avenir, est marqué par l’incertitude. D’où la nécessité d’une clarification sur la ou les significations à donner au terme de patrimonialisation appliqué à l’urbanisation en cours.

  Appel à contribution pour le colloque « Les communautés fermées entre innovation et fortification urbaines » organisé conjointement par Fondation Braillard Architectes, Genève, l'Institut de géographie de l'université de Lausanne et la chaire « Urbanisme et gouvernance » de l'Institut des sciences de l’environnement de l'université de Genève. Le colloque se déroulera le 8 avril 2011 à Genève. Les propositions de contributions sont attendues d'ici au 18 octobre 2010.
