Architecture - at the crossroads of the digital and the living
Ce colloque interdisciplinaire interroge les manières dont le numérique, par les méthodes qu'il génère, permet d'approcher la complexité des organisations spatiales, qu'elles soient naturelles ou artificielles. Cette interrogation s'inscrit dans le cadre de la production de connaissances et dans celui de l'invention d'organisations nouvelles. L'incidence du numérique sur les organisations humaines au sein des territoires (agricoles, urbains, paysagers, architecturaux, naturels) sera également placée au sein des débats.

The urban in every state: thinking and making the city in plurality
Depuis sa création en 2011, le LabEx Intelligences des Mondes Urbains (IMU) se positionne dans le champ de la recherche autour d’un « objet » – l’urbain généralisé – et d’une approche, la pluralité radicale. Ce colloque souhaite réinterroger cette posture et la confronter à d’autres expériences apparentées. Le LabEx IMU invite aujourd’hui celles et ceux qui ont mené des expériences comparables dans le champ large de l’urbain à venir échanger autour de leurs résultats et démarches. L’objectif est de débattre des enjeux, qu’ils soient d’ordres pratiques, méthodologiques, théoriques ou épistémologiques, afin de capitaliser ensemble sur ces mises en œuvre. Ce partage doit permettre de commencer de se doter, collectivement, des outils d’appréciation et de qualification de ces pratiques de recherche, tant en ce qui concerne leurs résultats que les difficultés inhérentes à leurs productions.

The research group Art & Site is launching a call for proposals for its conference entitled Public Art, Sites, and Digital Cultures: Image Streams and the Lives of Artworks which will be held at the University of Montreal from May 29 to 30, 2019. The conference will aim to interrogate various artistic phenomena, connecting works of art, the image in its broadest sense (image of cities, image of institutions, etc.), photography in the strictest sense, and public space in all its diversity.

The permanence and changes of live performance spaces in the city
From 1750 to the present day
Cette journée d'études a pour objectif de faire se rencontrer historiens du théâtre et spécialistes de l’architecture en portant l'attention sur les lieux scéniques, leur place dans la ville, leurs évolutions signalant à la fois des permanences et des mutations significatives. Les travaux porteront sur des études précises de cas soit de lieux, soit de quartiers voués aux spectacles et divertissements, permettant de mettre en évidence le lien et l'impact de ces espaces sur l'histoire de la ville. Les approches choisies pourront concerner des questions cartographiques montrant par exemple l'implantation de ces activités sur une période étendue, des questions architecturales et urbaines mettant en évidence les évolutions des bâtiments, de leur image, ou des questions liées à l'histoire sociale en associant ces mutations à celle des pratiques et des goûts du public.

Les phénomènes coloniaux ont très largement été des phénomènes urbains. De même, la création de territoires urbains (villes nouvelles, infrastructures, settlements, etc.) sont régulièrement qualifiés de « colonial ». Ainsi, au croisement des études urbaines et des études coloniales, cet atelier doctoral envisage donc d'interroger, à l'aune de cas d'étude situés, aussi bien diverses situations coloniales que la prolifération contemporaine des discours qualifiant telle ou telle situation urbaine de « coloniale ».

Multi-ethnic cities in the Mediterranean world

This meeting aims to foster a discussion about the continuities and disruptions which have conditioned the multi-ethnic dimension of Mediterranean cities. We would like to focus on the specificities of places and time in our millennial history that have produced both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. We would like to broaden the traditional horizons of our disciplines under the issues of our times, questioning the role of historical research and the forms of scientific communication nowadays, when old practices seem more challenged than ever by the overwhelming expansion of new technologies.

An Environmental History of the Great War
We intend to bring together an international group of 20 to 30 graduate students working on military, cultural, social, and environmental history of the First World War from 2nd to 7th July 2018. Over the course of the week, they will have opportunity to get to know each other, but also a wide range of internationally recognized academic experts. Guided tours on excursions to French and Belgian sites are an integral part of the program and will enrich the participants' experience.

What difference do DIY cultures make?
KISMIF Conference 2018 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘What difference do DIY cultures make?’ (KISMIF Summer School 2018) on 3 July 2018 in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto. The summer school will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the conference, to attend workshops led by specialists in these fields. Specifically, the Summer School offers thematic workshops expressly focused on the hands-on, music making, and place making of contemporary DIY cultures. Its approach will be methodological and focused on research for action.

Constitué en 2012, le collectif de recherche interdisciplinaire « Inventer le Grand Paris » a organisé de 2013 à 2016 quatre colloques internationaux consacrés à l’histoire de la métropole parisienne au XXe siècle. L’importance des informations recueillies, les nombreuses pistes de recherche qu’elles ouvrent mais aussi la résonance entre les problèmes du passé et ceux du Grand Paris du XXIe siècle ont conduit le collectif Inventer le Grand Paris à proposer une valorisation de ses travaux sous une forme numérique.

En convoquant tout à la fois la figure géomorphologique de la plaine, la topologie du plat, et la dimension représentationnelle des plans, le dix-septième numéro des Cahiers Thématiques, qui paraîtra en octobre 2017, voudrait rassembler des contributions interrogeant d’hypothétiques relations entre la planéité et la planification.

In the interdisciplinarity of his thought, its international dimensions and the timeliness of his ideas, but also given the misunderstanding of his work in France, Espaces et Sociétés devotes its next folder issue to Patrick Geddes, pioneer of modern urbanism and interdisciplinary methods, precursor of environmentalism. In effect, the environmental question has not emerged suddenly in urbanism, it goes back to the 19th century and the beginnings of the 20th century with authors such as Geddes. The choice of Geddes reflects the interdisciplinarity of his thought, its international reach and the novelty of his ideas, but also by the lack of his work in France; it was necessary, in fact, to wait until 1994 for the first translation of his work Cities in Evolution (1915). Equally this number wishes to address this oversight by understanding and by calling for a critical rereading of his work.
