  Globalismes

  Le constat d’un « art global » offre, depuis la fin des années 1980, une riche matière de réflexion aux théoriciens et aux historiens de l’art ainsi qu’aux commissaires d’exposition et aux professionnels des musées. Selon la définition du spécialiste des Global Studies Hans Belting, aujourd’hui, l’art contemporain peut être appréhendé comme synonyme de global art, le « globalisme » étant, selon lui, l’antithèse  de l’universalisme dans la mesure où il décentre une vision du monde unifiée, en s’orientant vers des modernités multiples.

  The Many Faces of Slavery: non-traditional slave experiences in the Atlantic World

  By the 18^th century, racial slavery had matured into a fully-fledged, firmly established, profitable form of labour in the Atlantic World. In slave societies, the development of the plantation unit led both to the geographical concentration of the slave population and to a growing homogenization of the activities bondsmen performed. However, throughout the Atlantic World, the existence of phenomena such as urban slavery, slave self-hiring, quasi-free or nominal slaves, domestic slave concubines, slave vendors, slave sailors, slave preachers, slave overseers, and many other types of “societies with slaves,” broadens our traditional conception of slavery by complicating the slave experience. This conference does not aim to challenge the significance of the plantation system, but, by using it as a paradigm, seeks to assess the extent and nature of non-traditional forms of slavery in the context of the historical evolution of labour in the Atlantic World.

  100 hundred years of French Overseas history

  100th anniversary of the Société française d'histoire des Outre-mers, SFHOM, 1912-2012

  La Société française d'histoire des Outre-mers (SFHOM) commémore son centenaire et celui d'Outre-Mers. Revue d'histoire (1912-2012). Elle publie un numéro spécial de cette revue, avec une quarantaine d'articles, regroupés ensuite dans un livre d'environ 660 pages. Et elle organise une journée d'étude à Paris le 7 décembre, avec quatre tables-rondes (56 rue Jacob, 75006).
