  From the sea to textiles

  Les journées d'étude 2018 de l'Association française pour l'étude du textile (AFET) visent à faire dialoguer mer et textile. Quatre thèmes sont privilégiés. La mer comme moteur d'innovation a conduit à l'élaboration de textiles innovants et spécifiques, le commerce des textiles est étroitement lié aux routes maritimes, le développement des stations balnéaires entraîne de nouvelles pratiques sportives donc vestimentaires, le décor maritime rend compte du rôle primordial de la mer dans l'imaginaire. Les orientations évoquées ne sont pas limitatives mais l'axe principal des communications doit faire ressortir les liens entre mer et textile.

  The social and cooperative economy in French overseas territories

  RECMA journal special issue

  Comment l’économie sociale (ESS) et solidaire s’institue-t-elle hors métropole, en relation ou en tension avec les pouvoirs locaux ? Cette institutionnalisation se heurte-t-elle à des résistances, voire des comportements centrifuges face à la tendance uniformisante de la métropole et de l’Union européenne ? Quels besoins sanitaires et quels besoins sociaux spécifiques à ces territoires est-elle amenée à prendre en charge ? Les organisations de l’ESS sont-elles des leviers pour l’emploi dans des régions marquées par un fort taux de chômage ? En quoi les spécificités des outre-mers ont-elles influencé le développement de l’ESS ou l’ont-elles limité, et vers quels axes celui-ci s’est-il orienté ? Pour répondre à ces questions, nous cherchons à réunir six articles rédigés par des chercheurs de toutes disciplines de sciences humaines.

  Trade and traders throughout history

  Linked to human societies through the ages, trade has taken many forms; it was associated with the appearance of man since barter between tribes and groups of people in the primitive era. This has been one of the pillars of political entities (kingdoms, principalities, Nations and Empires) during all historical periods; it was a factor in their appearance and economic dynamism, a source of political and financial resources due to significant revenue provided to the public treasury power. Trade was behind the emergence of several social phenomena and changes that have affected certain groups of society; it was and is a tool for traffic or movement of social actors, values, and ideas between communities. Currently, trade is of great importance for economic development in all countries ; it is a real challenge that has had an impact on the lives of people, their daily lives, and human and economic development.

  Globalisation and Minor Cultural Groups

  The role of so-called minority people in rethinking the future of modern societies

  Minority groups, whose way of life has historically suffered from globalization, are often cited as victims of global processes, but they are rarely studied for the techniques or technologies of accommodation and resistance they have implemented as a response to global processes— the most devastating of these processes being colonization in its various aspects. Indeed, globalist literature does not yet offer a conceptualization or theorizing of the social, cultural, political and territorial continuity of “minorized” cultures, let alone does it afford enough analytical space to these so-called cultural minorities in the process of questioning the values and practices of globalization. Therefore, this conference will participate in building more connections between different experiences  in order to think up the best alternatives to the global economic and political system in place and to the way of life brought about by global phenomena which do not work anymore.
