  Violence and environmental crisis

  Violence: An international journal

  Violence: An international journal is launching a call for papers on the theme “Violence and environmental crisis”. Can we speak about violence when describing biodiversity loss, the destruction of natural sanctuaries like Amazonia and the Great Barrier Reef, or when observing the spillage of illegally polluting wastes? How long is the chain of violence related to environmental crisis? And who are the perpetrators and the victims of such violence? In which way can we speak about violence, and can this violence be legitimated or condemned? All this raises theoretical, normative, linguistic and empirical questions to be discussed in the articles fostered by this call.

  Activism speeches in environmental controversies: social constructions, legitimisations, limitations

  Judging by their increase, envirnomnental controversies are a social phenomenon (Notre-Dame-des-Landes Airport, the Sivens dam in France, or the industrialization of goldbearing mines in French Guiana, the exploitation of shale gas in Algeria, the Dakota Access Pipeline in the USA…). Each of them is based on a series of individuals who rise up and express themselves in favor of or against these projects. This symposium aims to study controversies both rhetorical process and means of publicising. We would like to observe how activists forge their discourses and argumentations, how they justify their speeches, as well as the effects of these speeches in the public arenas.

  Citizen movements - social trajectories and gender

  Cette journée est consacrée aux « nouveaux mouvements politiques » nés dans les années 2000 dans le sillage de ce que l’on a pu appeler l’alter-mondialisme, mobilisations qui ont pu également être qualifiées de « mouvements sur place », « mouvements de mouvements », « mouvements sans leaders, transversaux, … » ou « digitaux ». L’objectif de cette journée est de faire dialoguer le champ d’analyse des mouvements politiques avec celui des socialisations en appréhendant les modalités d’articulation de la classe sociale et du genre entre les trajectoires sociales dans les parcours de militant·e·s, anciennes ou anciens des indignados puis, pour certains, membres aujourd’hui de Podemos en Espagne ou de Nuit Debout en France bien plus récemment.

  Considering spaces of alternative learning

  This conference aims to interrogate space as an educational tool. Recent literature is rather unanimous in stating that space is not a neutral element and that, in education, spatiality plays a role in the construction of social and educational relations; questioning how space could operate in building models of ‘alternative’, ‘critical’ or ‘citizen’ education is more controversial. But how could we define an alternative or critical education? Which places and spaces can we consider ‘different’ from institutional and conventional educational models?

Cette journée d'étude aura lieu à Lyon, le 20 octobre 2015. Elle s'adresse à des doctorant.e.s et jeunes chercheurs en histoire, mais aussi venus d'autres disciplines des sciences humaines.

  The history and memory of union movements in the 20th century: crossed perspectives in France and the Puy-de-Dôme

  Ce colloque invite à une réflexion sur la construction de l’histoire des mouvements syndicaux entre histoire et mémoire, fondée sur un aller / retour entre les deux échelles du local et du national et sur une approche interconnectée des mouvements syndicaux, trop souvent séparés dans la recherche historique : mouvements ouvriers, paysans, enseignants, étudiants… qui connaissent pourtant bien des moments de rencontre, voire de convergence. Deux modalités d’exploration seront privilégiées : d’une part, la construction de l’histoire des mouvements syndicaux dans le dialogue entre chercheurs en sciences humaines et acteurs ; d’autre part, la fabrication et l’usage de la mémoire du syndicalisme par les syndicats.
