  Tokyo 1964, the Olympic Games of memory

  À l'occasion des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de Tokyo en 2020, la revue Cipango - Cahier d'études japonaises - lance un appel à contribution pour un numéro spécial consacré aux précédents Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo, en 1964. L'objectif de ce numéro est de croiser les analyses sur les Jeux de 1964, au prisme de différentes disciplines (histoire, sociologie, littérature, urbanisme...), afin de nourrir une réflexion interdisciplinaire ancrée dans le long terme sur les Jeux Olympiques au Japon et de mettre en perspective historique l'évènement de 2020.

  Saigon, an eyewitness of history through archives

  À travers une histoire riche en rebondissements au cours du XX^e siècle, Saigon présente de nombreuses facettes inédites qu’il convient de mettre à jour et d’analyser. Grâce aux archives, les chercheurs redécouvrent aujourd’hui celle que l’on nommait autrefois « la perle de l’Extrême-Orient » et mesurent à la fois l’évolution et l’expansion de la ville, d’une situation coloniale à la cité-province actuelle. Pour suivre pas à pas ces transformations sociales, politiques, économiques, une très riche documentation est désormais disponible principalement en France, au Viêt-Nam et aux États-Unis. Ces sources constituent en effet le matériau de base pour entreprendre une recherche historique, géographique et plus largementen sciences sociales. Archives administratives, dessins, plans etcartes, photothèque, images fixes ou animées, institutionnelles ou privées, elles sont nombreuses et souvent dispersées. Elles constitueront le coeur de cette journée d’étude sur Saigon.

  Cosmopolitanism revisited

  Comparative Perspectives on Urban Diversity from the Gulf and Beyond

  This conference aims to revisit the notion of cosmopolitanism in Gulf cities and other regional areas from a comparative perspective. It will be a unique opportunity for scholars of the Gulf and other world regions to engage with cosmopolitanism or otherwise probe the intersection of global studies, urban studies and migration studies from a range of disciplines. More specifically, panels will be organized around the following research themes:“cosmopolitan canopy”, cosmopolitanism in theoretical and comparative perspectives, new geographies of cosmopolitanism in Gulf cities.

  Second World Urbanity: Between Capitalist and Communist Utopias

  Second World Urbanity: Between Capitalist and Communist Utopias seeks to investigate the history of the radical reshaping of the Soviet World (in our words - the Second World), that Ada Louise Huxtable reported on in the late 1960s. This project aims to bring together scholarly contributions on the various endeavors in the Second World to conceive, build, and inhabit a socialist cityscape that was an alternative to the segregated spaces of capitalist cities and the atomized world of suburbia. Imagining and designing urban space were undeniably powerful instruments of forging socialist modernity. Second World Urbanity pays close attention to the tensions between global challenges and locally driven agendas that made architects, planners, and ordinary dwellers alter socialist modernity according to more particular interests.

  Oryantalizmin Panzehiri

  Le but de ce colloque n’est pas de revisiter l'univers d’Edward Saïd et d’analyser à nouveau la propension à projeter exotisme et clichés sur l’Orient. Les interventions s’interrogeront plutôt sur la façon dont la création contemporaine (artistique, architecturale) dans les pays d’Orient ressuscite, relit, réinterprète, s’approprie, récuse, ou tourne en dérision le regard orientaliste. Les domaines investigués seront l’architecture et l’esthétique urbaine, le roman et les arts contemporains. Les artistes seront invités à exposer leurs productions qui reflètent ce dialogue avec l’orientalisme.

  Mutual Heritage, from historical integration to contemporary active participation (2010-2011)

  Dans le cadre du projet Mutual Heritage, from historical integration to contemporary active participation, un projet sur le patrimoine architectural et urbain récent dans le monde méditerranéen, un nouveau cycle de conférences est organisé en 2010-2011 par Laura Verdelli et Emilie Destaing, dans le but d'alimenter les questionnements posés par ce programme et d’encourager un échange avec les étudiants de différentes écoles d’architecture et d’aménagement. Financé par l'Union européenne dans le cadre du programme Euromed Heritage 4, le projet Mutual Heritage a pour objectif de développer des instruments et des compétences afin de faciliter l'intégration du patrimoine récent dans la vie quotidienne actuelle.

  Workshop on Palestinian Refugee Camps in Jordan

  A Lasting Temporariness: Population, Space and Social Practices, 1990-2010

  This one day workshop will focus on the social and spatial organization of the camps, the social practices of their inhabitants, and the influences, interpretations and effects of what we call a lasting temporariness on the Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. Due to their significance and status, the camps represent key social spaces for exploring patterns of interaction between different religious groups and national minorities, for examining governance, for studying development and planning issues (infrastructure and services), for mapping the constitution of territories and identities, and for analyzing the development of an intricate network of economic and political connections inside and outside of their spaces.
