L'image de l'étranger dans la bande dessinée
Interculturalité, exotisation, statut narratif
Comment l’autre, l'étranger, proche ou lointain, est-il représenté dans l’espace des narrations graphiques, quel que soit le genre de la bande dessinée (bande dessinée historique, de reportage, autobiographie, fantastique, humoristique, de science-fiction) ? Plus particulièrement, comment l’altérité et la différence sont-elles représentées dans l’espace socio-culturel de la bande dessinée en Europe, notamment dans l’espace franco-belge. L’histoire de la bande dessinée épouse celle de la période coloniale (de 1827 à 1960) ainsi que postcoloniale. La question de la caricature, de l'humour envers les autres culturels (Astérix), de la parodie, du récit historique à but éducatif ou apologétique vis-à-vis de la jeunesse (Tintin au Congo), sont autant de questions délicates quant au rapport entre un art de la bande dessinée qui vise à divertir, mais aussi convaincre, faire de la politique et imaginer l'ailleurs et ses étrangers.

In his doctoral dissertation La Bande dessinée et son double, Jean-Christophe Menu puts forward the notion of a “corpus hors-champ de la bande dessinée” to describe “an entire corpus of works that undoubtedly belong to the field [of comics] but is not integrated into its History, and hence is not recognized as an integral part of the field” (2011, 432). This conference aims at seizing this complex and hard-to-translate notion of the corpus hors-champ, locating an ‘outside’ of comics. Beyond its specific use in Menu’s theoretical discourse, this notion can facilitate the convergence of various research interests to bring forward objects for scrutiny that were held at the margins of comics studies.

The international conference Breaking Boundaries: Academia, Activism and the Arts proposes to bring into focus and critically question common grounds and boundaries between and within the Humanities, political activity and aesthetic production.At a time when boundaries are simultaneously questioned and reinforced – for example between geographical territories, political states, public and private spheres, gendered bodies, creative media, theory and practice, local and global, human, non-human and post-human – the question of what such frontiers stand for, and how and why they might be transgressed offers itself for and, indeed, urges discussion.

The construction of reality in the post-truth age
We invite papers for the 25th issue of the intersdiciplinary academic journal Interstudia, based at the Faculty of Letters, Vasile Alecsandri University of Bacau, Romania. The proposed topic for this issue is "The construction of reality in the post-truth age". We will accept articles written in English, French, Italian and Spanish whose main points of interest will be related to ideas deriving from these following themes for reflection: the role of language in the construction of post-truth, the manipulation of emotion in the media, ethics and post-truth, the role of humanities in the preservation of human values, truth versus opinion in the post-truth society, the relation among data, information and knowledge, ICT and post-truth, the role of numerical devices in the propagation of post-truth attitudes. These are only suggested topics, and should not be considered exhaustive. authors should be free in choosing their topic of research within the frame offered by the general title.

The memory of films in viewer narrative
Individuelle ou collective, la culture cinématographique se nourrit du souvenir des films. L’histoire du cinéma s’est d’ailleurs longtemps écrite au filtre de la mémoire des cinéphiles. Cette journée propose d’explorer ces souvenirs dans les récits de spectateurs, en s’intéressant en particulier à la manière dont ceux-ci se cristallisent (autour d’une histoire, de quelques images – fixes ou animées –, de répliques…) et dont ils témoignent d’une expérience tout à la fois singulière et partagée. Dans une perspective interdisciplinaire attentive aux questions de méthode, on cherchera ainsi à cerner comment ces souvenirs attestent et réactivent le pouvoir évocateur du cinéma.

The senses of translation of the filmic "text"
It is impossible to envisage audiovisual translation without keeping in mind the senses: “the translator writes for sight and sound, that is to say for a speaker and a listener, not for a reader”. (T. Le Nouvel). Dialogue is meant for performance and representation, whether in Original Version, or in the various kinds of Translated Versions that may be produced (subtitling, dubbing, voice-over, audiodescription or subtitling for the hearing impaired, etc.). This pragmatic purpose leads to yet another dimension, that of embodiment in its primary meaning: the fleshing out of a character by an actor, which is paramount in dubbing.

Si la critique littéraire et cinématographique a déjà fait l'objet de travaux substantiels, le traitement au quotidien du reste de l'actualité culturelle demeure relativement peu étudié. Sous la direction de Jason Luckerhoff (université du Québec à Trois-Rivières), de Virginie Soulier (université Perpignan) et Olivier Champagne-Poirier (université du Québec à Trois-Rivières), la section thématique du numéro 2(2) des Cahiers du journalisme sera consacrée au traitement journalistique des institutions culturelles telles que les musées, bibliothèques ou festivals, et plus généralement à la couverture médiatique des secteurs artistiques, éditoriaux et patrimoniaux et à celle des initiatives publiques et privées dans ces domaines.

Ce numéro 25, consacré aux zones de confluence entre l’image satirique, la caricature et la bande dessinée, émane d'un partenariat avec La Brèche, association de chercheur-e-s en bande dessinée. Ridiculosa explorera dans ce numéro autant la perméabilité de l'image satirique et de la bande dessinée, que leurs points de contact.

Le séminaire est organisé par l’Institut des textes et manuscrits modernes (ITEM, CNRS/École normale supérieure), avec le laboratoire « L’antique le moderne (L’AMo) », le Centre François Viète, le laboratoire des sciences du numérique de Nantes (LS2N) et d’autres laboratoires de l’université de Nantes. Il aura sept séances autour de projets d’éditions numériques de corpus étendus et multimédia. Chaque sera consacrée à la présentation d’un projet avec retour d’expérience sur son élaboration, puis une large place sera consacrée au débat.

An International Conference on Serge Gainsbourg
In 1989, a survey of French cultural taste revealed that Serge Gainsbourg was both one of the most popular singers and yet a near outcast in his native country. When he died, two years later, President Mitterrand called him “our Baudelaire, our Apollinaire,” claiming he had “elevated chanson to the level of art.” But he might just as well have acknowledged Gainsbourg as the first artist to top the British charts with a single in a foreign language. With the hindsight of almost thirty years, one thing is, in any case, certain: sampled by Beck, De La Soul, Massive Attack and Fatboy Slim, remixed by Howie B. and David Holmes, translated by Mick Harvey and covered by Iggy Pop, Donna Summer, Portishead, Madeleine Peyroux, the Pet Shop Boys and Franz Ferdinand, “the man with the cabbage head” remains the Francophone songwriter whose contribution to the international appeal of French popular music has been the most significant in the post-war era.

“Comics and memory” is an international Nordic networks for comics research (NNCORE) conference organized at the University of Ghent from April 19-21, 2017, in collaboration with the KU Leuven, UCLouvain (GRIT), and the ACME comics research group (University of Liège). This three-day conference examines the complex relationships between comics and memory through the prisms of personal, collective, and medial forms as well as practices of remembering.

En littérature et plus généralement dans les arts, c’est la notion de « genre » qui sert à opérer un ensemble de discriminations indispensables au travail de conceptualisation de divers pans de la production culturelle. Le troisième numéro de la revue en ligne « À l’épreuve » souhaiterait explorer les dynamiques plurielles de légitimation / délégitimation engagées par la notion de « genre » dans la littérature et les arts.

San-Antonio international: representations, circulation, translations, exchanges
The subject of this two-day conference is the exchange processes between French and International cultures at play in and around the work of Crime Fiction author Frédéric Dard. Having started his literary career in 1938 and published more than 250 books until his death in 2000, the author is not only one of the most prolific and successful in the history of European literature, he is a very public figure too, having enjoyed intense media and critical attention in the last decades of his career. Identified mainly with the almost 200 San-Antonio novels he wrote between 1949 and 2000, the most popular and longest series of Crime novels written by a single French author, his image has been distorted by the bulk, preponderance and largely domestic nature of San-Antonio’s success.

Intercultural mediation and the forms of perception of the other
Au-delà des médiatieurs individuels ou institutionnels « classiques », les mass média font eux aussi partie des vecteurs centraux de transfert interculturel de la culture et du savoir. Ces « instances médiatrices non intentionnelles » (Umlauf / Colin) seront au centre de l’intérêt du colloque. Du fait qu’elles focalisent et transmettent souvent des formes culturelles populaires, elles peuvent être considérées comme agissant dans la largeur du champ culturel. De ce fait, elles ouvrent également des contextes et des espaces nouveaux à des processus de médiation interculturelle. Ceux-ci en sont souvent exclus par la notion de culture parfois exclusive des instances de médiation intentionnelles, mais laissent néanmoins des traces profondes dans la mémoire collective.

Depuis une quinzaine d’années, les événements de la fuite et de l’expulsion des Allemands des territoires de l’Est à la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale occupent l’espace public en Allemagne. Le colloque souhaite s'interroger sur les représentations littéraires, artistiques, médiatiques et muséographiques de ces événements dans une perspective transnationale, en incluant la réception de ces événements dans les principaux pays voisins concernés : Pologne – République tchèque et Slovaquie. Il s'inscrit ainsi dans une tendance à lire ces événements dans une perspective européenne des migrations et déplacements de population. -
