  Art History for Artists: Interactions Between Scholarly Discourse and Artistic Practice in the 19th Century

  The development of art history as a discipline during the 19^th century has been variously associated with the politics of national identity, the needs of a growing bourgeois public in search of cultural capital, or of an expanding art market. However, the role of art training, and art practitioners themselves in the shaping of the discipline remains unexamined. Courses in art history had been systematically introduced in the curricula of art and architecture academies since the late 18^th century, and spaces of art education count among the first institutional homes of the discipline, well before the establishment of autonomous university chairs. This conference aims to explore the interactions and productive tensions between art practice and art scholarship in the 19^th century.

  Scales of the Alimentation: an Asian Perspective

  The international conference “Scales of the Alimentation: an Asian Perspective” aims at bringing together the French and international scholars of Asia in order to promote a global approach to Asia and to bring together different research institutions based in Europe, therefore to develop the exchanges between different international scholars of Asian societies and experts related to the themes of the food. Our objective is to deliver in-depth analysis and innovative methods arising from research in social and human sciences. We aim to better understand economic, political, institutional, cultural, technological and organizational dynamics of past and present dietary practices in Asia. In particular, we will focus on how the state of food practices and their knowledge is interwoven with other social and technological developments, that are the legacies of expanding and shrinking empires and the mass industrialization.

  Cultural Transfers in Central Asia : before, during and after the Silk Road

  Jusqu’à une date récente, la réflexion théorique sur les transferts culturels n’a que rarement débordé du cadre constitué par les cultures européennes, russe comprise, en dépit du fait que certains éléments de ce type d’analyse ont été déjà appliqués par les archéologues aux données centrasiatiques. En décloisonnant l’approche initiale, essentiellement eurocentriste, pour se rapprocher d’autres types de transferts dans d’autres espaces culturels, le colloque vise à questionner sur le terrain de l’Asie centrale l’efficacité des théories sur les transferts culturels et leurs concepts opérationnels (vecteurs de communications, processus de réception, innovations, appropriations, réinterprétations, adaptation, resémantisation, transformations, métissages, etc.).

  The seminar "History of Science, History of Text" will mainly explore textual problems related to the ERC Project SAW – "Mathematical Sciences in the Ancient World". The seminar will address the following issues regarding scientific sources: how textual sources bear witness to the social groups that produced them; How textual sources testify to knowledge; history of compilations  How actors structure their texts and knowledge into parts; how textual sources reflect the material environment in which they were produced.

Intervenants : des scientifiques, des papetiers et des restaurateurs du patrimoine. 2011 : inauguration du projet par une première rencontre internationale : pérennité des traditions au Japon, situation de la papeterie traditionnelle en France et au Japon, utilisation du papier japonais en restauration d'œuvres d'art occidental, l'affinage, le battage, les filigranes et la classification générale du papier (voir programme ci-joint).

  Dans le cadre de son projet de recherche sur les historiographies d'ailleurs, et en partenariat avec le laboratoire du SEDET de l'université de Paris 7, le laboratoire HSTM de l'INALCO organise un cycle de onze conférences entre octobre 2010 et mai 2011. Chacune de ces conférences évoquera les écritures de l'histoire et le métier d'historien tels qu'ils sont pratiqués en dehors du monde occidental. Il sera ainsi tour à tour question des historiographies d'Afrique, d'Amérique et d'Asie.

  L’œuvre scientifique des missionnaires en Asie

  Des missionnaires chrétiens, de divers ordres et de multiples pays d'Europe, ont souvent été les premiers à explorer des régions inconnues de l'Asie. Une journée d'études est proposée pour cerner l'extension et les limites de la relation culturelle et scientifique qu'ils ont contribué à établir entre les deux continents. Trois domaines offrent un intérêt particulier : étude de langues ; nouvelles connaissances et échanges scientifiques en astronomie, cartographie, histoire naturelle, etc. ; informations sur l'histoire, les littératures, les coutumes, les religions.Prenant place dans une série de réunions organisées conjointement depuis 2006 par l’Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres et la Société asiatique, cette journée entend témoigner de l’esprit commun qui les anime au service de l’orientalisme conçu de la façon la plus ouverte.
