Did the Belle Époque go viral?
The circulation, distribution, and reproduction of images and texts in periodicals at the turn of the century (1870-1930)
La fin du XIXe siècle peut être considérée comme l’achèvement d’un ensemble de processus de systématisation et de rationalisation des techniques de production et de diffusion de l’imprimé : au niveau technique, la mise au point des procédés de reproduction photomécanique rendant possible la reproduction à faible coût et sans perte d’information des images et des textes ; au niveau rhétorique, le journalisme valorise des formes simples, directes, qui augmentent l’efficacité communicationnelle. La question que souhaite soulever ce colloque est celle de la pertinence de l’application de la notion de viralité à la culture (et plus particulièrement la culture de la presse) au tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles.

Eschatology is one of the central components of medieval Christian culture. The end of the world, the Last Judgment, salvation, Messianism, the Antichrist, the Apocalypticism and millenarianism are inescapable elements in what we may generally describe as "Medieval eschatology". It is the intention of the International Conference "The Medieval Eschatology" to provide a venue for reflecting on these as well as other eschatological issues that may be proposed. This can be done analytically or descriptively from both a practical and theoretical approach.

Art Markets : An Integrated Perspective 2020
International Summer School - Antwerp-Brussels July 6-10, 2020
Inspired by the success of the first Art Markets Summer School held in Lyon in June 2019, a second edition of this unique research, training and networking experience will take place in July 2020 in Belgium. A team of international experts from relevant fields such art history, economics, sociology, finance and digital humanities will engage with participants with an academic or professional interest in the global art market. An exciting program combining lectures, workshops and field trips will familiarize the participants with the nature and structure of the art market system. Attention will be given to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the various actors in the art market and the available methodological tools to study this fascinating yet complex phenomenon. This immersive experience will inspire and shape new interdisciplinary thinking about the emergence, history and dynamics of art markets around the world.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 Public History Summer School that was to be held in Wrocław, Poland, is moved to being online-only event and will take place as previously planned, June 1-5. The workshops and sessions will be organised with the use of new technologies.

Médias 19 – Numapresse congress
Le projet scientifique franco-québécois Médias 19, articulé autour de la plateforme numérique www.medias19.org, a été le cadre de développement d’une réflexion, depuis 2011, sur les pratiques journalistiques au XIXe siècle, sur la valorisation et l’analyse des corpus, ainsi que sur l’étude du développement de la culture médiatique dans l’espace francophone. Depuis 2017, le projet scientifique international Numapresse , ambitionne de proposer une nouvelle histoire culturelle et littéraire de la presse française, du XIXe siècle à nos jours, en mobilisant les grands corpus de presse numérisés et les nouveaux outils de text et data mining. Ce congrès, organisé est l’occasion de convier les chercheurs à faire état de la recherche actuelle.

La provenance des collections est devenue une question brûlante pour les musées. Historiennes et historiens aussi interrogent les liens entre les contextes d’origine des objets, leurs conditions d’acquisition et de circulation, et leur valorisation patrimoniale. Pour son édition 2019, le colloque infoclio.ch s’intéresse à l’état des recherches de provenance en Suisse et à leurs répercussions sur les sciences historiques. Le rôle des systèmes d’information numérique sur l’actualité de ces questions sera mis en avant.

Cultural encounters in the nineteenth century
The exhibition The Dutch in Paris, which was on show in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam and in the Petit Palais, Paris during the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018 respectively, aimed to visualize the artistic exchange between Dutch and French artists between 1789 and 1914. As part of a larger research project, set up by the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History, the exhibition generated so much response that ESNA, in collaboration with the RKD and NWO, decided to organize an international conference on the subject, focusing specifically on international as well as national and local points of encounter and how they facilitated artistic exchange.

The status of French-speaking journals around the world (1880-1980)
Cette journée d’études est organisée dans le cadre du projet PERFROM (PERiodiques FRancophones Outre-Mer - XIXe-XXIesiècles) et vise à étudier plus particulièrement le statut des périodiques francophones publiés entre 1880 et 1980 dans le monde (hors territoire métropolitain français). Désormais loin d’être considérés comme de simples vecteurs d’actualité ou de divertissement, ces périodiques peuvent être envisagés comme un outil d’analyse pour comprendre les enjeux culturels, littéraires, sociaux ou politiques d’un pays : on cherchera à définir plus précisément leur place, dans les études littéraires en général, mais surtout dans la culture littéraire d’un pays - et dans ses rapports avec la métropole lorsqu’il s’agit d’une colonie.

Le lauréat du prix gagnera la somme de 300 € et sera publié dans la revue Volume! (après une procédure classique d’évaluation, publication prévue l’année suivant la réception du prix).

Schalten und walten. Towards Operative Ontologies
IKKM Biennial Conference 2019
The conference will conclude the IKKM six-year research program on ‘Operative Ontologies’. A term seeming contradictory at first, it assumes that everything that exists is not simply present or given but has been called into being through media and their operations in the most general sense: The ruling (das Walten) of nature as well as the ruling of the social reside under the command of technology, which as increasingly digitized technology is based on switching operations (das Schalten) — e.g. the achievements of bioengineering or the computational models of planet Earth. When embodied operations establish ontological orders and the difference between the ontic and the ontological thus re-enters the ontic, this demands a radical remodeling of ontology. The IKKM Biennial Conference 2019 therefore investigates the given with regard to the procedures through which it has been made possible, produced, set up, brought into the world and called into being — “switched on” — in the first place.

Governance - writing practices – codifications
Les XXe journées lotharingiennes constituent le colloque final du projet de recherche international ANR / FNR TRANSSCRIPT. Un demi-siècle après les trois colloques de la Reichenau édités par Hans Patze sous le titre de « Der deutsche Territorialstaat im 14. Jahrhundert », leur objectif est de revisiter, pour l’espace lotharingien et, à titre de comparaison, allemand et français, le concept de « principauté territoriale » / « Territorialstaat » dans une approche socio-culturelle du pouvoir, en mettant l'accent sur les pratiques de l'écrit aux XIIIe et XIVe siècles. Le colloque sera articulé autour de trois sections consacrées à l'étude de la langue des actes, celle des variétés documentaires et celle des diversités régionales. Le colloque sera placé sous le signe d’une réflexion transversale, la comparaison entre principautés et les échanges entre celles-ci.

Cette troisième journée d’étude du Groupe de recherche sur les écrans et leurs publics (GREPs) portera sur les publics du streaming audiovisuel et de la vidéo à la demande, au croisement des descriptions quantitatives, de l’imaginaire collectif qu’ils charrient et des usages effectifs de ces plateformes de diffusion. La journée se propose donc d’interroger les discours et les représentations autant que les usages des publics des plateformes dans une perspective large et interdisciplinaire.

The history of sport - post doctoral position at the University of Lausanne
Réalisation d'une thèse de doctorat en sciences du sport, orientation histoire. Cette thèse sera réalisée dans le cadre du programme de recherche Fond national Suisse (FNS) « Les membres du Comité international olympique (CIO) de 1894 à 1972. Prosopographie d’une élite transnationale ». Affilié à l’équipe travaillant sur l’histoire du sport international au sein du Centre d’études olympiques et de la globalisation du sport (CEO&GS), le candidat concentrera ses recherches sur le rôle international du CIO durant la présidence de l’Americain Avery Brundage (1952-1972). Il participera et contribuera à la mise en œuvre du Data Management Plan du programme FNS.

The Many Lives of Europe's Audiovisual Heritage Online
During the past decade, a massive body of European audiovisual heritage has become accessible online: on video sharing sites and websites of archives, or through initiatives such as EUscreen.eu and Europeana.eu. Once online, audiovisual heritage circulates in diverse ways: users watch, share, like, or dislike it; they comment, appropriate, and download videos for remix and recirculation. It thus becomes part of the popular consumption of history, potentially creating new interpretations of heritage materials, challenging authorised perspectives. Heritage institutions perceive the consequences of the recent technological transformations of the sector as a major challenge and opportunity.
