  Représenter le corps absent

  Privant les humains de leurs rapports réels aux autres, le nouvel ordre du monde provoqué par le contexte pandémique a banalisé les échanges virtuels dans tous les domaines de la vie professionnelle, personnelle et culturelle. Les images des lieux dépeuplés à travers le monde - rues désertes de capitales, bureaux abandonnés, transports déserts - constituent des représentations insolites de l’absence qui interpellent et semblent déjà ancrées dans la mémoire collective. L’impact de la disparition physique du corps de l’autre et de la perte du lien social qu’induit l’isolement n’est pas anodin sur les pratiques corporelles collectives (manifestations culturelles, célébrations, mouvements sociaux…). L’omniprésence de la virtualité comme alternative aux rapports sociaux traditionnels, la peur implicite du corps des autres et le renversement d’une société où les corps sont présents mais invisibles nous amènent donc, dans le cadre de cette journée d’étude, à repenser la corporalité et sa visibilité dans le champ de la représentation.

  Blank spaces: concepts and practices

  Le blanc est un concept majeur dans la réflexion sur les relations entre écriture et figure. Il renvoie, sans s’y réduire, au support sur lequel s’inscrivent le texte et l'image dans l’espace du livre, de l’estampe, de la peinture, de la paroi ou du mur. Souvent théorisé en Occident comme un vide, un manque qui s’oppose à la matérialité de la figure ou du signe écrit, il est pourtant susceptible d’assumer un rôle énonciatif, sémantique et plastique dont les artistes et les écrivains se sont souvent emparés, et qui reste à interroger. Prolongeant le colloque Écritures V. Systèmes d'écriture, imaginaire lettré (2015), ce colloque se donne pour but d’explorer la richesse conceptuelle de la notion de blanc, et la multiplicité des enjeux qu’elle ouvre dans l’étude des formes mixtes associant figure et support.

  "Perspective" Journal 2021 – n°2

  This call for paper asks the question of what it means to inhabit : to inhabit a space, a territory, one’s home or one’s body, whether we are dealing with far away frontiers, or the outlines of intimacy ; to inhabit one’s life, one’s society/ies, one’s epoch, in what inhabiting means in terms of being present in one’s world, for and with one another, to face circumstances as they stand. In a time when, across the globe, entire populations are confined to their homes, Perspective issues an invitation to revisit the visual and imaginary plasticity of inhabiting : “to occupy a place of settled residence or habitat,” so states the dictionary, suggesting habit, repetition, regularity ; but also occupying persons, inhabiting them, animating them, moving them.

  The Multidisciplinary Grid 2020 Conference

  The conference is aimed at examining the ‘grid’ as a cross-disciplinary theme with a multiplicity of expressions in terms of definitions, concepts, perceptions, representations, and histories. The ‘grid’ has played a significant role in shaping the spatial imaginaries of a wide range of fields: from Hippodamus of Miletus to the Cartesian revolution in mathematics, from the visual arts to archaeology to 'smart cities' and artificial intelligence. As the 'grid' has become an all-encompassing term, signifying a vast array of infrastructural and communication networks through which contemporary life is mediated and controlled, it is commonly viewed as a quintessential symbol of modernity. The conference strives to explore a new horizon of relationships and fusion of the ‘grids’ in these areas as manifested between humans, between machines, and between humans and machines ‒ bridging philosophical, cultural, pedagogical, technical and ethical issues.

  Mental maps": between memory transcription and symbolic projection

  TRANSCRIPT

  The notion of "mental maps" will therefore be considered according to two different meanings and uses: 1) the internal representation of a space travelled through (cognitive map) and 2) the representation of a set of entities or concepts (mind map). The terms "memory transcription" can be understood as the translation and recording on a graphic support of elements present in the mind. The terms of "symbolic projection" are conceived as the fact of externalizing by the means of signs or symbols on a graphic support, the two types of representation: the representation of a traversed space or the representation of a set of entities or concepts. The points of contact, crossover, reversal, between what could be called "representation of space" and "space of representation" are little explored. How can we better apprehend the complex notion of "mental map"? The question of memory transcription? Of the "symbolic projection"? Can we identify meeting points between these two polarities and if possible a continuum?

  Poetics, Politics and the Ruin in Cinema and Theatre since 1945

  References to Ancient times have been made in Europe between the two World Wars and the Classical served the idea of “a return to order” considered by some as necessary after the heresies of the avant-gardes. Indeed, the Classical has been manipulated by Fascist and Nazi ideologies in orchestrating the Second World War and the Holocaust. This conference intends to study how artistic processes as well as works of theatre and cinema record the historical and artistic consequences of this trauma in Europe by reinventing Antiquity, in particular, by working with ruins both politically and poetically. While this research is initially rooted in classical reception and theatre and cinema studies, the conference intends to dialogue with other fields including archaeology, aesthetic philosophy, political sciences, anthropology, and media theory.

Il s'agira de s'interroger sur les transformations liées à la valorisation des collections des centres documentaires ces dernières années, de la place des espaces virtuels dans ces échanges et de la mise en place de nouvelles formes de mutualisations de compétences et de ressources des différentes institutions présentes pour cette journée. L'atelier, orienté sur les Visual Studies, s'intéressera à ces questions du point de vue des archives sonores et audiovisuelles, des livres d'art et des images d'archives sur l'aire méditerranéenne.

  Still on the Map!

  Mississippi Delta Communities Facing Disappearing Land

  "Still on the Map!" takes as its context the Mississippi Delta fifteen years after Hurricane Katrina and about five years after the commissioning of the major new "100-year" flood protection infrastructure. Expressed from its title -a statement of resistance/resilience chanted by many inhabitants during ecological events in Louisiana- this research project aims to describe the links and "attachments" (LATOUR, 2017) that different communities in the delta maintain with their geographical environment in a situation of strong ecological tipping point, integrating the natural and artificial infrastructures of the watershed into the definition of ecosystems as socio-political actors in their own right. In a context where the delta's land is gradually sinking into the sea, every hour the surface area of a football pitch is permanently flooded.

  We seek proposals from post-doctoral scholars, recent PhDs, as well as those in the final stages of their dissertations with a background in related fields, in particular migration studies and social history, especially as they intersect with museum studies and/or public history.
