  Gender Dynamics and Practices in Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape Architecture

  In France, as in several other countries, the professions of architect, urban planner and landscape architect have crossed a historic threshold in terms of feminization. However, numerical parity does not mean men and women have equal professional opportunities: numerous demands of feminist associations remain unsatisfied. They note the persistence of many professional inequalities: in terms of income, in terms of financial control and job insecurity, in terms of visibility, and in terms of recognition. This call for papers aims to gather contributions for an assessment of the gains and limits of feminization and gender dynamics at work in the professional worlds of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture in France, fifty years after the "massive" entry of women into architecture schools in 1968.

  En vue d'un colloque international organisé dans le cadre des célébrations des 500 ans de la Renaissance par les châteaux de Blois et de Chaumont, avec le soutien de la région Centre-Val de Loire et la ville de Blois le personnage de Catherine de Médicis sera abordé sous ses nombreuses facettes : lignage, histoire institutionnelle et juridique, administration du royaume de France, crise religieuse, cour de France, finances, seigneuries, historiographique, évolution des arts en France et politique des arts (architecture et image).

  Cistercian establishments in the northern Mediterranean arc (12th-14th centuries)

  Mise en perspective

  Les études sur le monachisme féminin en France au Moyen Âge apparaissent actuellement éparses, parfois datées et même en marge par rapport aux études sur le milieu monacal masculin. De plus, une approche historique semble privilégiée à l’histoire de l’art et à l’archéologie. Le propos ici retenu se place dans la même lignée, mais souhaite s’attacher plus particulièrement aux établissements de moniales cisterciennes, en s’appuyant sur les données et les recherches en cours en Languedoc-Roussillon. Ce thème ne peut être abordé sans faire référence aux Cahiers de Fanjeaux. Les Cisterciens de Languedoc (XIII^e – XIV^e siècle), datant de 1986, dont un chapitre est consacré à la branche féminine de l’Ordre et au sein duquel les contributions doivent servir de base à une réflexion plus étendue. L’implantation cistercienne en Languedoc méditerranéen et en Roussillon au Moyen Âge est, certes, moins dense que dans le Toulousain ou en Provence, mais elle est bien présente et apparaît homogène et équilibrée. Cette rencontre sera l’occasion de faire un état de la question et d’apporter un renouvellement des connaissances en histoire, histoire de l’art, archéologie ou encore sur le plan liturgique.

  Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of England, Artistic Confluences Around 1200

  VIII edition of the International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art

  October 6, 1214. The Castilian monarch, Alfonso VIII, died on his way to Plasencia. Before the month had ended, his wife Eleanor Plantagenet followed him in the monastery of Las Huelgas in Burgos. To celebrate the eight-hundredth anniversary of their passing, the UCM’s Department of History of Art I (Medieval) organises the VIII edition of their International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art (12-14 November 2014), under the title “Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of England, Artistic Confluences Around 1200″.

  Monkhood and feminine monastic spaces (5th-12th century)

  Crossed perspectives of archaeology and history

  Dans la mouvance de l’historiographie anglo-saxonne, puis française dès les années 1980, les médiévistes se sont penchés sur les particularités du monachisme féminin. Longtemps considérés, pour notre période, comme des annexes secondaires des monastères d’hommes, les établissements féminins répondent pourtant dès l’Antiquité à des aspirations spirituelles spécifiques et jalonnent l’espace chrétien de manière quasi exponentielle jusqu’au XVIII^e siècle. L’approche se voudra ici résolument interdisciplinaire pour réunir historiens, historiens de l’art et archéologues, qui travaillent souvent dans des cadres administratifs différents, autour d’objets communs d’études abordés avec des approches, des problématiques et des méthodologies différentes. L’éclatement des travaux masque bien souvent leur complémentarité. Cette journée d’études tentera de la faire valoir.

  The Office as an interior (1880-1960)

  The so-called “second industrial revolution” meant a significant growth in the tertiary sector (banks, insurance companies, etc.); at the same time new administrative bodies arose both in industry and at agencies and public authorities. This went hand in hand with a massive increase in the numbers of employees. The employee became the socio-professional figure of the urban modernity, whereas the professional woman became increasingly important. The symposium addresses the development of the office in order to analyse the interdependency between physical and social space, materiality and practices, strategies and tactics, structures and individuals. Likewise, it is intended to approach the office from a historical perspective, as attention is directed towards the significance of the office for structuring and transforming the sociocultural situation from the turn of the last century through the end of the 1950’s.
