Classicamente. Dialoghi Senesi sul Mondo Antico
The junior researchers and PhD students from the Anthropology of the ancient world curriculum of the PhD course in Classics and Archeology are promoting the fourth edition of the seminar cycle Classicamente. Dialoghi Senesi sul Mondo Antico. This year's edition will focus on the varied methodologies and hermeneutical perspectives which represent the scientific guidelines followed by scholars in anthropology of the ancient world ever since its development. It will also focus on those approaches that today contribute to a constant enrichment and renovation of this field of study. Our goal is to offer to all those who take part the chance to present their work, be it the result of long research or elements of a work in progress, in an enviroment open to discussion between different perspectives (anthropological, philological, historical, archeological, semiotic etc.).

An international round table organized on May 4 and 5, 2019 at the University of Salahaddin (Erbil, Iraq) highlighted the interest for a collective work that will address the question of Christianity in Iraq at the turn of Islam. Les Presses de l’Ifpo launch a call for papers related to this theme.

Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Christian Initiation from Late Antiquity to the Middle Ages
On the occasion of this meeting dedicated to baptism and baptisteries, we intend to highlight the spatialization of baptismal rituals and their evolution between Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, by comparing different geographical areas within the boundaries of the Roman Empire and its neighbouring regions. Through the dialogue between written sources and archaeology, we would like to investigate whether baptismal practices could assert regional or confessional Christian identities.

Second conference of young researchers into pre-Roman Italy
Du 10 au 12 mars 2021 se tiendra à Paris la deuxième édition de la rencontre des jeunes chercheurs travaillant sur l'Italie préromaine. Elle a pour thème « Dépasser la limite ». Le colloque est pluridisciplinaire. Toutes les disciplines sont bienvenues pour discuter de la limite dans toutes ces acceptions : territoriales, culturelles et idéelles. Les analyses pourront se mener à diverses échelles, de l’artefact ou du site à la région. L’ensemble du territoire italien est concerné, des régions septentrionales et intérieures à la Grande Grèce et à la Sicile en passant par la Sardaigne, les façades tyrrhéniennes et adriatiques (avec des extensions possibles vers les territoires immédiatement environnants dont la Corse). Le cadre chronologique envisagé est assez ample, du Bronze récent au Principat d’Auguste.

Dialogue section - Polygraphe(s) - Espace, environnements et territoires journal No.3 - space environment and territories
La revue annuelle "Polygraphe(s), approches métissées des actes graphiques" est consacrée aux actes graphiques dans la diversité de leurs formes, des lieux et du temps de leurs réalisations. Elle entend faire se rencontrer et réfléchir ensemble des disciplines diverses comme la préhistoire, l'archéologie, l'anthropologie, les sciences de l'éducation, la psychologie, la sémiotique, le design, etc. sur des thématiques précises autour de la communication figurée. La revue est souhaitée comme un espace d'échanges intellectuels autour d'un vaste sujet d'étude commun, un lieu de rencontres et de discussions entre disciplines peu habituées à dialoguer entre elles.

XVIII International ARYS Conference
This conference aims to deconstruct the ideas of rural religion as mechanically reproducing urban rituals and religious hierarchies and of the rural world as a space of cultural and religious resilience against urbanity. Rural areas represented an arena for very situational processes of negotiation between, on the one hand, administrative patterns and related social configurations, and, on the other hand, processes of social conformance to the very characteristics of a local specific rural environment, of adaptation to its peculiar habitus and religious customs, possibly involving gods whose competences directly mirrored a geophysical environment made of mountains, rivers, woods, etc.

Strategies of Human-Divine Communication in the Roman Empire from Individual Experience to Social Reproduction
The Department of Historical Science at the University of Málaga and the Institute of Historiography “Julio Caro Baroja” at the University of Carlos III of Madrid are organizing an international conference titled “Calling upon gods, offering bodies. Strategies of human-divine communication in the Roman Empire from individual experience to social reproduction”. Researchers of Ancient History, History of Religion, Archaeology, Anthropology, Classics, and other related fields are invited to present their research on this topic. The conference aims at analysing how self-experience of religious communication becomes a reflexive phenomenon reproduced in time and space to constitute a collectively shared narrative.

Archaeology and the history taste in Phoenician and Punic societies
Cette école thématique s’inscrit dans le programme de recherche et formation « Archéologie du goût en Méditerranée occidentale dans les sociétés phénicienne et punique ». Elle constitue la première action du programme et fixera les termes, les contours et les enjeux du débat. Pour cela, nous nous interrogerons sur la question du goût dans les sociétés phénicienne et punique, en nous limitant à deux aspects majeurs que sont : le goût comme construction culturelle ; les goûts et les habitudes alimentaires. Ces thèmes seront analysés à travers une approche pluridisciplinaire et comparatiste qui dépasse les frontières entre chronologie, disciplines et cultures différentes. L’objectif de l’École thématique est de croiser les approches disciplinaires, les terrains de recherches, les périodes et les corpus de sources afin de proposer aux jeunes participants une ouverture méthodologique et scientifique autour d’une thématique commune d’étude, et d’en explorer toute la richesse.

On n’a pas tous les jours vingt ans ! Depuis sa création en 1999, l’Association pour la promotion des recherches sur l’âge du Bronze s’emploie à structurer les activités et à réunir les chercheurs travaillant sur cette période, en France comme en Europe occidentale. Ce colloque anniversaire est l’occasion de revenir à Bayeux, lieu de sa création, et de proposer une rétrospective des actions de l’association, mais également de porter un regard sur l’évolution qu’a connue la discipline durant cet intervalle. Comment se sont renouvelées les méthodes et les pratiques ? Quelle perception avons-nous aujourd’hui de l’âge du Bronze et quels problématiques et enjeux doivent être envisagés pour demain ?

Organised by the ERC Advanced Grant “Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency” (MAP - 741182), the conference Naming and Mapping the gods in the Ancient Mediterranean. Spaces, Mobilities, Imaginaries hopes to bring together the competences and specialties of multiple disciplines – archaeology, history, geography, anthropology, history of religions, philology, reception, social network analysis – in order to consider new documentation corpora concerning the intersection between the divine and space. Among other things, the conference aims to propose an innovative angle of approach: the intersection between the spaces and designations of the gods.

Les travaux existants abordent de manière exclusive l’un ou l’autre type de tombe et les tentatives de corrélation sont restées relativement rares étant donné le peu de données récentes et fiables pour ces deux types de contextes.

A multidisciplinary conference and exhibition examining the symbolism of the colour red across disciplines in the past and present
Le projet « Rouge : études diachroniques » (RED) ambitionne de documenter l’attachement à la couleur rouge dans les productions symboliques du passé à l’actuel. Le projet vise à rassembler différents spécialistes autour de cette question et d’engager le dialogue avec des spécialistes de la couleur: scientifiques (sciences humaines et sciences dures), artistes contemporains, conservateurs et producteurs de couleur. Pour cette table-ronde, la mobilisation croisée des compétences, des recherches et des créations des spécialistes de champs largement différents constitue l’un des principaux horizons susceptibles de faire progresser une réflexion autour de la couleur rouge et d’apporter une dynamique nouvelle dans la compréhension des productions symboliques artistiques du passé.

Le séminaire d'échange bi-national Paris-Cambridge est une initiative pour faire dialoguer archéologues de Cambridge et de Paris. Ce séminaire vise à rapprocher deux traditions de pensée relativement séparées, notamment en Préhistoire. Chaque séance sera centrée sur un thème unique, autour duquel un chercheur de Cambridge et un chercheur de Paris dialogueront par des présentations en miroir. Ils apporteront un aperçu des tendances épistémologiques de la discipline, à l'appui de leurs propres travaux, et fourniront leur vision sur les orientations futures de la recherche sur les sociétés préhistoriques.

Burial mounds and funerary customs in the Caucasus, Northwestern Iran and Eastern Anatolia during the Bronze and Iron Age
The tradition of burying the dead in burial mounds (kurgans), usually consisting of a funerary chamber limited by stone or brickslabs and covered by dirt and gravel, started in the fourth millennium BCE in the northern Caucasus and then spread south to the rest of the Caucasus regions, eastern Anatolia and northwestern Iran during the Bronze Age and Iron Age. The spread of the kurgan tradition, as well as the territorial, political, social, and cultural values embedded in their construction and their symbolic relation to the surrounding landscape are under debate. The workshop aims to examine chronological issues, cultural dynamics at inter-regional scale, rituals and burial patterns related to these funerary structures. The beliefs and ideologies that possibly connected the "kurgan people" over such a wide geographical area, as well as past and present theoretical frameworks, will also be discussed.

Il décalera le regard en le centrant sur l'étude des objets en tant que marqueurs de la performativité rituelle et de la commémoration du passage dans un contexte romain. L’objectif est une mise en parallèle des sources littéraires, épigraphiques et iconographiques avec les données matérielles, les objets découverts en contexte archéologique.
